fun fact: Morticia’s lighting, specifically around her eyes, was inspired by Bela Lugosi’s Dracula from 1931. They specifically lighted around his eyes to show Dracula’s hypnotic power, and it’s one of the more iconic aspects from that film. They payed homage to the movie by lighting Morticia’s face in the the same way.
It was also a popular way of lighting leading ladies back in the early days of cinema to emphasize their eyes. They would also sometimes film them deliberately slightly out of focus to disguise the supposed 'imperfections' in their face.
@@aspilurchAlso helped by the fact that while in full color, because of her makeup, Morticia is effectively in Black and White.
Thing is, Ms. Huston hated it, as she basically had a freaking spotlight in her eyes for *every* f-ing scene through the movie.
@@MonoKabi I was wondering about that.
I did love how several of these little “implications” were sort of hinting at, but never directly nor indirectly indicated that she was vampire.
Certified therapists have remarked that Gomez and Morticia are the ultimate married couple goals. It becomes even more clear how awesome they are as parents in the next film, supporting their kids even when they aren’t happy with certain things. That will make more sense after you watch the second film. For me they are the top tier perfect pair and no other couple, fictional or otherwise, beats them.
I would have to put Nick and Nora Charles from The Thin Man movie series on par with these two
@@BAD46660 It's always nice to find someone else who likes the Thin Man movies. 😊
It’s a testament to the state of minds of the ignorant people when they are talking about the “perfect marriage” of two people in a scripted movie…. Especially a ridiculously fictional movie like this. Unreal.
Perfect name, dude.
Back in 2000 TV Guide held a bunch of polls for things like Best TV Family and Best TV Detective. The winner of the poll for Greatest TV Couple were Gomez and Morticia Addams.
I'm so interested to know if you like Addams Family Values even better than The Addams Family just because Joan Cusack nails her role!
Yessss!!!
Also very excited to see her eventually do the second one too.
All she wanted was a balarina barbie, but no she got Malibu barbie!
Sorry, Debbie, no Mercedes this year. We have to set an example. @@Raven5150
I started to say the same thing! She is SO good in her role as Debbie.. Plus I love the whole side story of Wednesday & Pugsley at summer camp with school nemesis Amanda & love interest Joel & the idea of introducing a new family member in Baby Pubert to the group. It may just be my favorite of the two for these reasons alone..
Just a little note: the Addams Family pinball table, which came out with this movie, is still considered to be one of the greatest of its kind. I played it all the time when I was living in the college dorms.
Oh I used to play that at my laundromat many years ago. Still a favorite of mine. I got really good at it.
I strongly agree. I was a pinball champ/fanatic in the early 90s. My favorite 5 pinball games were #1 Adams Family #2 Star Wars #3 Elvira and the Party Monsters #4 Hook #5 Hurricane.
Guns 'n Rodses is my all-time favorite. The Judge Dredd machine was fun, along with Fish Tales, Addams Family and Doctor Who.
They actually released it recently for Pinball FX, if you're a gamer. I totally snatched that one up, it's easily in my top 5 pinball tables of all time (The others being Indiana Jones, Super Mario Bros., Tron Legacy, and ummm... maybe Terminator 2).
Yea but that is lame compared to the actual real life game. The FX version has a pretty wide flipper gap. The real life one is adjustable at least so arcade owners could put on longer flippers and such. @@vodengc520
15 ? Only fifteen on the official count? Those are rookie numbers. You gotta bump those up! Can’t wait to see you simp for her in the sequel!
You simped out on Morticia 15 times, and who can blame you. It should be noted that Christina Ricci wasn't the original Wednesday Addams. In the 1960's Addams Family TV series, Lisa Loring played Wednesday.
Was going to say the same thing about Wednesday, Lori was our original!
th-cam.com/video/l6GupZJtirg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=biTkeCJqo5_i6RZY
Also, Caroline Jones was SO hot as Morticia. Such a beautiful smile (and a tragic end)
RIP Lisa Loring
Feeling things for Morticia just means you're human.
My son worked in a theater when this came out and Angelica Houston came in one night with friends to watch it. She was great with the kids working and autographed programs. He still has his.
Morticia and Gomez are the perfect example of Relationship goals.
There's another actor in this movie you might have recognized. Carel Struycken, who played Lurch here, was Grandpa Flick in Doctor Sleep.
The reason the Thing effects work well is because it was played by Christopher Hart, a well known magician.
Christina Ricci was not the original Wednesday. Lisa Loring, who died recently, played her in the 60's TV show.
It says a lot about the talent of Raul Julia that they attempted a third Addams Family movie in 1998 with Tim Curry in the role, and not even he could pull it off.
Carel Struycken will always be, after Lurch of course, the servant to Lwaxana Troi in Star Trek TNG as far as I'm concerned. Made such a convincing alien and barely wore any prosthetics.
@@jonnydarkfang2816 Yes, Mr. Homn was also my first introduction to Carel Struycken. The second was in Twin Peaks as The Dream Giant.
Funny, as the original Lurch (i.e. 60s TV), Ted Cassidy, also played an alien on an episode of the original Star Trek ('Ruk' in "What are little girls made of?")
@@Cau_No - And Ted Cassidy was also the voice of the of the Incredible Hulk (the grunts and growls) & the Narrator of that live action TV series starring Bill Bixby & Lou Ferrigno.
@@MLJ7956 So the Hulk needed two bodybuilders to represent him? Fitting.
Carl also plays Jack Nicholson's servant Fidel in Witches of Eastwick. I don't think he gets to speak 😅
Huston isn't just beautiful, she's also a cat lover and owns several indoor and outdoor cats😻
Carolyn Jones had the same distinctive bone structure
I can't with the simp counter. 😂😂
I'm glad you enjoyed this! I hope you watch the sequel! It really is as good as this movie. ❤
What a great reaction Ashleigh, your laugh is so infectious. My two favourite lines are "Are they made from real girl scouts" and "I'm a homicidal maniac, they look just like everyone else". I'm now impatiently waiting for your Adams Family Values reaction.
I second The Addams Family Values. Both films have such incredibly memorable lines.
@@jaquesshugossen9398 "He has my uncles eyes."
@@vederianl9723Gomez, take them out of his mouth!
The Addams Family started as a print cartoon by Charles Addams, which appeared mostly in The New Yorker magazine between the 1930's and 1980's. In fact, the opening scene of this film came directly from one of his cartoons, with the family up on the roof preparing to pour boiling oil down on the carolers. Although Addams' strip was always intended as a funny cartoon, it was much more macabre with darker comedy. The lighter take came about with the 1964 TV sitcom. In fact, the characters didn't even have names, until the series, when Addams had to come up with them specifically at that point.
LOVE this movie. Christina Ricci was my first childhood crush. I was a weird kid.
No, you weren't.
Between Addams Family and Casper, a lot of us grew up with crushes on Christina.
@@onejesterno, I definitely was a weird kid.
Fun fact, the actress who plays the Cookie Scout returns as Amanda in the sequel, Addams Family Values.
The neat part about the Addams family is that they're an amazing family and Gomez and Morticia are basically the best parents - they're madly (in multiple ways) in love with each other and Gomez wasn't kidding when he said he'd die or kill for Morticia, they share each other's kinks and likely invented a few whole new ones so they're clearly still romantic/passionate, they genuinely care about their kids and actively encourage their educations and pursuits/hobbies (no matter how dull parts might be, like sitting through a kids' recital), they have a pretty substantial social circle (of shall we say "interesting characters" in their own right) and are socially active, and they maintain a connection to their past/ancestry but don't let that determine their present or future.
Christopher Lloyd was also wonderful as Judge Doom on “Who Framed Roger Rabbit “
I think the lake under the house, with Gomez belting it out as he punts the boat along, is a Phantom of the Opera reference.
Fun fact: Cousin It's bubble-car is a real kind of car you used to be able to buy, I think they made 'em in the 50s or 60s.
I named my cat "Wednesday" because I'm such a fan! She is 15 now, might not be around for a lot longer. But she was honored in life with an amazing name!
I have a 15 year old cat named Bellatrix! She's great!
I am so happy you loved this movie, this is an all time favorite of mine. I saw this in the theater on my 12th birthday. To tell what kind of a kid I was, during the scene at the play with all the blood everywhere I was howling in laughter. I've enjoyed it even more as an adult since yes I do in fact get all the jokes I wasn't supposed to get at 12. Everyone in this cast is amazing, though I've always loved Raul Julia in a bunch of stuff. RIP. I also love how you simped for Morticia 15 times and I can't blame you.
Christopher Lloyd is a phenomenal character actor. His most iconic role probably is Doc Brown, but the one that gave him his start was Rev. Jim Ignatowski on Taxi. He’s hilarious. He also played a Klingon in Star Trek II: The Search for Spock. Full face makeup with prosthetics, but his voice gives it away.
My favorite quote regarding this movie is from when Raul Julia was promoting this movie, and was on the Arsenio Hall Show. Arsenio quoted from a review of the movie: “This is a Gomez with gonads.” “Raul responded: “Gonads? Is that anything like cojones?”
15:50 Yes, Gray’s Anatomy is a real medical textbook, going back to the mid 1800s. It’s been regularly updated, but from what I understand, it’s still *the* reference book for basic human anatomy.
26:15 Annoying Girl Scout is played by Mercedes McNab, whom I mostly remember from her run as Annoying Mean Girl Harmony Kendall on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
Wait. Really? I gotta find Buffy on stream now and look for her.
@@mideon84oh yeah! She’s in Buffy seasons 1-5 and Angel seasons 2 and 5.
Wednesday ahs all the best lines:
"Are they made from real Girl Scouts?"
"We're going to play Does God Exist?"
“The original Wednesday” Well, about that… there’s a whole TV series. With John Astin (father of Sean Astin AKA Samwise Gamgee) as Gomez. There’s also at least one animated series from the 60s,70s, and/or 80s.
(Also, The Munsters kinda hits the same demographic as The Addam’s Family, if you want to check out any of that)
The original script would have ended with Gordon not being the real Fester but choosing to stay with the Addamses (tying into the larger themes of found family who loves you being better than the family you're born into that doesn't). Several members of the cast strongly objected and they chose a representative to appeal to Barry Sonnenfeld to change the ending and have Gordon be the real Fester. That representative was Christina Ricci. Clearly, her appeal worked. Interestingly, Christopher Lloyd himself was pretty ambivalent to the whole situation and was fine with either ending.
Probably because they left it a little open ended. Like you can believe he’s really uncle fester or maybe not and choose to become Fester. Which fits with the original show since you weren’t really sure who’s uncle he was, and the lightning gave them an excuse for the lightbulb gag
The TH-cam channel Cinema Therapy actually say how Morticia and Gomez have a really healthy marriage, and that they are essentially a relationship goal! So you are completely correct about everyone finding themself one or the other.
The show Greys is a pun on the REAL anatomy book GRAY's written in the 1800 as the first good comprehensive guide to anatomy.
Fun Fact: Margaret Hamilton; Almira Gulch / The Wicked Witch of The West, in The Wizard of Oz, played Morticia Addams' mother, Hester Frump, in three episodes of The Addams Family (1965-66).
Hamilton had been offered the role of Grandmama, but turned it down due to being concerned about being typecast as a Witch.
Can’t wait to see you react to The Addams Family Values!!!
Fun fact #2: In the TV series, Fester was Morticia's uncle, but in the movies, he was Gomez' brother.
Great reaction Ashleigh...this movie is one of those rare instances where a film that was based on a former popular TV series that did everything right, put lots of references from various episodes in it for fans of the show, were able to make the story coherent and entertaining enough for new people who might not have ever heard of the stories/characters, were able to do entirely new things with the characters and materials & treated the original source material with the utmost of respect (which sadly a lot of other films based on popular TV shows fail on many of those points). This movie is the example of how to do a good updated movie from a beloved TV show. Glad that you enjoyed it & please by all means check out the very entertaining sequel 'Addams Family Values' 😁✌️
I am just rewatching the show with a friend who has not seen any of it before or the movies, or the two animated movies or the Netflix show.
I also own a edition of the Complete New Yorker cartoons, which along others contains every Charles Addams cartoon published in that paper.
Yeah, it cracked me up when she talked about this movie being "the original".
Christopher Loyd has said hes doing a cameo appearance in the upcoming Season 2 of Wednesday. According to him he's been contacted to do it and they have a part for him. Not sure he was actually supposed to reveal that but it's Christopher Loyd he can do what he wants lol
I don't see if anyone has mentioned it, but the lighting on Morticia Addams is a reference to Bela Lugosi in the 1931 "Dracula," who was similarly lit.
Side note: They also lit Lucias Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies this way.
Minor correction. Lisa Loring played Wednesday Addams in the TV Series which ran from 1964-1996
If not already mentioned....be sure to look up the process for casting "Thing" (they chose a magician if I remember correctly)
The late Lisa Loring was the OG Wednesday, and Jackie Coogan, former silent film star with Charlie Chaplin was Fester,Sean Astin's father John is Gomez,Carolyn Jones was Morticia
It was surprising how well they captured the same vibe of the original 1960's. When it first came out there was some doubt if it would be as darkly humorous without being silly. It had to have been difficult for the cast to play such iconic characters, but they nailed it. It was definitely not made for just kids. They didn't forget the older "kids" that grew up on the original. Back in the day the question was Addams family or the Munsters as your favorite.
Very excited to see you eventually do Addams Family Values too. Hope it's soon! Hope you enjoy!
The Adams family is the most supportive of each other in the series and movies .
I don’t know if anyone had mentioned it yet, but the actor who played Lurch also played Grampa Flick in Doctor Sleep!
i had very low expectations when this came out. But when I finally came around to watching it I couldn't stop enjoying it. I love it now, and consider it a classic.
This movie & it's sequel always put a smile on my face. It's so much fun! I can still remember seeing them in the theater for the first time. I was in awe at how amazing this had become from watching the original black & white TV show when I was a little kid. Such a great cast of actors playing each classic character to a T. (chef's kiss) Secret Phrase answer - You simped for Mortica 15 times.
Thing’s origin story, to me, is that he was never meant to be just a hand. He was supposed to be the Thing in the Walls and you only saw his hand, but because folks like me only ever saw a hand in the old tv series, we thought that’s all there was.
I think you’re right about Fester having no catch phrases but also Christopher Lloyd owns Doc Brown but there have been many Festers and he wasn’t the first.
And you would LOVE Addams Family Values. There’s another stunning lady in that one as well as Morticia. I don’t think it takes place at Thanksgiving, but there is a Thanksgiving play in it.
Often, the TV show's Thing was performed by the actor who played Lurch. The crew had great fun making him squeeze his frame under end tables and behind furniture in order to keep his body out of the camera shot.
In scenes where Lurch and Thing were together onscreen, Thing was portrayed by John Astin, who played Gomez.
Oh, and Uncle Fester did have his own catchphrase on the TV show. "I'll shoot him in the back!"
22:56 Well Cousin It is pretty irresistible.
He's cultured, he has a variety of interests and talents, he keeps his fashion sense sensible but stylish, he takes great care of his hair. he's attentive, he's funny, he's just such good company.
As much as I LOVE all the actors in their roles, Dr. Pindarschlast is fabulous! Her speech explaining Fester getting lost during Hurricane Heellggaa is hysterical! "Oh my! Oh, my! Go tell it on the mountain!... The Florida Department of der Fish and der Game give him to me and I'm bringing him home to you! "
I don't know if its intentional or not, but you're coming across as really polished and full of charm lately, the editing is great and I like what you're doing with your hair. Onwards and Upwards No-longer-awkward Ashleigh!
Gray's Anatomy is an extremely common anatomy textbook written by a surgeon in the 1850s. It's been revised over the years and remains to this day "the doctor's bible". So Grey's Anatomy is the perfect name for a tv show about surgeons.
As I recall, Huston had to wear a couple of layers under the dress for that perfect figure. Oh, and Fester wasn't steaming. That's just his smoking jacket. ;)
I loved the Addams Family movies so much as a kid, but got a whole new appreciation for them as an adult with all the jokes. They are brilliant films and I cannot wait for your Addams Family Values reaction. It’s my comfort movie that I can watch anytime to put me in a good mood
It's fan lore that an Addams can't kill another Addams. It just won't work.
Miss Firkins is played by an actress I absolutely love, Lela Ivey, who was Mitzi Martin on the mystery soap opera, _The Edge of Night._
Fun fact, lurge is played by Carel Struycken who is one of the most successful Dutch actors in the usa. Also he came from my home town. ✌️
The deliberate Christmassy start because it was released in theaters on Thanksgiving weekend. Wednesday got her name from the old English Children's poem; "Monday's child is Fair of Face - Tuesday's child is Full of Grace. Wednesday's child is Full of Woe - Thursday's child has Far to Go, (etc.)... " That was the real Fester - Dr. Pinder-Schloss gave it away in the Library when she said she should've left him where she found him. VALUES is a Must for any reviewer, and Joan really nails that part. John Astin was the consummate Gomez on the tv show, until Raul Julia just owned it here and the next one. RIP Raul.
Gray’s Anatomy is a college level anatomy book, often featuring actual photographs of the human body, inside and out. Grandmama uses it as a cookbook. 😆
I think Lloyd leans into Doc Brown more because it's an original character.
The character of Uncle Fester was first played by Jackie Coogan in 1964. Uncle Fester has been played by half a dozen screen and voice actors.
"I would like a Thing please"
Yes, because everyone needs an extra . . . . hand around the house.

Christopher Lloyd I first remember in Professor Plum in Lue and recently an elderly in the movie Nobody as the retired father hit man …
I've watched this review seven times looking for the secret phrase, and all I got was a "simp count of 15." You should really look at the drawings of the Addams family from the New Yorker by Charles Addams. He was a consultant on the 1960's tv show, where he gave them all their names. Can't wait for you to get to Addam's Family Values.
9:38 Obviously, that's his smoking jacket. :P
15:03 Pugsley's kinda like Deadpool in that his regenerative powers make him almost impossible to kill.
15:20 Me thinks Ashleigh likes to watch. 😏
16:18 They did this by shining an actual spotlight in her face and it gave Angelica Houston terrible migraines. It's one of the reasons she originally didn't want to come back for the second movie.
This was great! Now watch the Addams Family values , but for the love of God, do NOT watch the third movie. It is not canon and has none of the original movie characters. If you want to watch more, either go with the animated reboot movie, or the Wednesday series. The third movie will only ruin your opinion of the whole series.
It's not just Pugsley, the whole Addams family tree is hard to kill, without even the need for regeneration. Just watch what's (not) happening to Pubert …
Boobytrap Spelled Backwards is..... *PARTYBOOB!*
Raul Julia said his acting career was now complete for he got to play Gomez Addams!
I had this on VHS as a kid and used to watch it on repeat, and I didn’t realize it was Christopher Lloyd until I was an adult 😂
Saying Fester at the same time was almost cathartic lol love watching movies with her it's like watching them with a good friend
Ashleighs metal version of caroling had me cracking up!! Great reaction as always to this trippy movie. Love the simp counter!
2:35--2:39, "It's Beans?" What's Leo the MGM Lion doing here? This movie was a Paramount/Columbia release!
(One Wikipedia Search Later...)
How's this for an crazy story? This movie was originally meant to be a release of the mini-major studio Orion Pictures (from the makers who brought this lovely Hot Mess Express such films as "Amadeus," "The Terminator," "Three Amigos," "Robocop," "UHF," "Bill & Ted," and "Silence of the Lambs"). Orion Pictures was losing money by the 1990s (it would be bought out by MGM in 1997), "The Addams Family" was going over-budget due to some production problems. The studio feared the worst, thinking this movie would end up being another flop, so they sold the domestic distribution rights to Paramount Pictures (a previous deal with Columbia Pictures granted them international distribution rights to Orion productions). As irony would have it, "The Addams Family" was a smash hit that earned Paramount a pretty penny. Hindsight certainly is something, isn't it?
The aftermath of this arrangement occurred when the time came for this movie's home media release. After the initial VHS release, the ownership issues between Paramount and MGM would stall a DVD release for this film until these issues were completely resolved until 2013, where it was made clear that Paramount had the domestic home media rights, while MGM had the international home media rights...which I suppose means that Ashleigh may likely be the proud owner of an international copy of the DVD!?
Ashleigh could do a Cousin Itt impression just by brushing her hair over her face and putting on a pair of glasses.
I had the rare opportunity not just to meet Angelica Huston, but to be around her family for a little while. My family were the cab drivers who transported the cast and crew around during the filming of Mister North in my hometown of Newport, Rhode Island. I was actually at Newport Hospital with them while her father, famed director John Huston, was on his deathbed. I was maybe 6 years old at the time, but I remember she had poise and grace like no woman I've ever met, even offscreen. I don't think she's "pretty" or "cute" or any of the words I would normally use to describe a woman I personally find attractive, but I do think she is simply the most absolutely stunningly gorgeous and exquisite woman I've ever seen.
The Addams Family are immortal and invulnerable, so basically they could take all sort of punishment.
A fun fact about the Addams family is Gomez and Mortica were the v first couple to sleep in the same bed on television history in the 50s or was 60s ( sorry ) as before that married people on tvslept in separate beds and sometimes even separate bedrooms. Psychologists have said they are couple goals too and say they truly health one of the healthiest relationship ever as they love absolutely everything about each other including every flaw they are open to each other working through every issue and keeping the passion alive and of course open about their fantasies with each other.
This was the first movie based on the cartoon strip and show from way way back. ( I can't remember the date tho sorry ) there is a sequel to this which carries the story on and then the show Wednesday which is closer to the comic strip.
It may be hard to see at first but Carel Struycken that plays Lurch in this movie also is Grandpa Flick in Doctor Sleep.
Fun fact: My brother in the early 90s was pulled from the street for a Vanity Fair photoshoot with Anjelica Huston. He was on his way back to school after lunch when the people stopped him and asked if he would do it. If I remember right, it was after her divorce from Jack Nicholson.
Interesting bit of parallelism... the giant who played Lurch in the Addams Family TV show guest-starred in an episode of Star Trek. The giant who played Lurch in the Addams Family movies guest-starred in a few episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The Addams Family started as a comic strip by Charles Addams. Then it was a '60s TV show, then this film.
Christina Ricci IS in the Netflix series and plays the only "normie" on staff at Nevermore Academy. And does it well. YOu really do have to see the sequel to this movie...one mild spoiler...the scariest moment comes when Wednesday actually SMILES. Both of the movies were perfect and absolutely true to Charles Addams original cartoons.
The Girl Scout is back in Addams Family Values, which i also highly recommend
I cackled at your look of horror over the spraying blood in Wednesday and Pugsley's play.
shout out to beans for also doing product placement
"If you haven't read the title or seen the thumbnail."?
Okay. What in the Invasion of the Body Snatchers is going on!?
Top-level scary for Hallobeans!
Michael Caine in "The Hand" directed by Oliver stone( 1981) that's "Things" origin story!
The Addams Family was originally was a regular, 1 panel comic in the New Yorker Magazine in the 1950s, by Charles Addams. Most of the characters didn't have names until the the 2 (3?) season black and white show in the early 1960s. The title sequence with the carolers and the Addams up on their roof with the boiling pitch was directly from the comic. The television series with John Astin as Gomez and Carolyn Jones (sister of Shirley Jones) as Morticia was slightly toned down for the 1960s, but not that much and is still a well deserved cult classic.
Yes that baby outfit at the end was meant for a two legged baby. 😂
Yeah, people talk about Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 being the biggest special effects movies of the early 90's, but Thing running around blew people's minds at the time. A lot of that footage still holds up, too. But yeah, great movie, glad you dug it.
The opening scene is extraordinarily brilliant in that it lampoons the very first Charles Addams comic strip in which 'The Family' are pouring boiling oil onto carolers from the rooftop.
That reminds me I got to call my mom before Christmas 🎄
Wow, Gray's Anatomy is a reference book of human anatomy written by Henry Gray, illustrated by Henry Vandyke Carter, and first published in London in 1858. It's been updated with NEW medical info over 40 times since then. Anyone who has ever gone to medical school knows this book.
This movie is a wonder. It's *almost entirely* about two adult men and their feelings, but in a non-toxic way.
Love the reaction. Can't wait for The Addams Family Values!! Greetings and love from Mexico 💚
The show Grey's Anatomy is in fact a reference to the mid-19th century reference book titled "Gray's Anatomy".
MY fav Christopher Lloyd part was him in the TV series TAXI with Danny DeVito .
Angellica Huston hated that dress. in fact when filming was completed she stole the dress took it out and burned it.
As someone who grew up with the original Addams Family TV series, and who adores John Astin (adoptive father of Sean Astin, aka Samwise Gamgee) as Gomez, the late Raul Julia is easily my favorite.
i stan Wednesday so hard, i grew up watching re-runs of the black and white TV show as well as this film. I dressed up as Wednesday for halloween before halloween was really a big deal in the UK and was so committed that i pulled the head off a doll to do it at 6 years old lol
everyone, EVERYONE has a thing for Morticia.
The original Wednesday Adams was played by 6 year old Lisa Loring in the 1964 TV series The Adams Family. Christina Ricci was not the original.
As a kid the dance was my favorite part. I don’t know why I liked this movie as much as I did. I’m surpise I didn’t find it scary. I just found it funny. That dance and that line Gomez says “ he did the Manushka” I’ve said it for years.
Lisa Loring was the Original Wednesday in the Original tv show back in the 60's. But Movie wise, Christina Ricci was the first for sure.
These 2 movies were so well scripted and faithful to the original TV show, one might wonder why they then made Lurch a wimp (relative to the original Lurch). Answer: An orginal-style Lurch would've been too much of an obvious obstacle to overcome for the antagonists.
Honestly, the second one is just as good if not better.
Raul Julia, Angelica Huston and Christina Ricci each nailed their respective roles hands down. Their constant poker faces with subtle humor is great.
I'm the same age as Christina Ricci and had such a crush on her when this came out (and she's grown into a very attractive adult), but yes she did creepy kid extremely well.
Ashleigh should dress up as Morticia for Halloween
This movie brought out the we can see your Tonsils level of laughter.
