First, thank you for your comment! I'm so glad you liked the video. Also I totally agree, Luke was one of the most complicated villains I had been introduced to when I read Percy Jackson as a kid and he continues to be such a tragic and interesting character to this day.
misha He is. He’s quite polarizing, I’m not sure if I like him. I think he’s so fascinating, but he manipulated Annabeth for years and I just don’t know what to think. It doesn’t help that I identify with Annabeth so much. I’m just pretty conflicted about him. I think that’s the point
@@nerdybookworm25 Definitely! He makes a lot of bad decisions and hurts a lot of people around him while still being somewhat sympathetic in the end. Riordan definitely intended to make us feel conflicted with Luke.
Luke is like the Severus Snape of the PJO fandom but done properly. While Snape has been absolutely horrible except literally the last minutes of his life... Luke's story was a little more fleshed out and complex and you end up both angry at him for picking the wrong side while also understanding why he did what he did ALL THE WHILE feeling conflicted at yourself for somehow liking the villain. I believe that Luke truly wanted the best for the whole camp. That was basically his motivation, to wipe out the gods so none of the campers would feel abandoned anymore by being named a demigod while remaining unclaimed by for years, to stop the constant dangerous quests that they have to put up with even with their lives being at stake. These two probably played a very big role, after all he experienced it first hand. He was left alone with an insane mother who he probably thinks was a victim of the gods. During his time as a runaway, he finally met people he can consider as family only to see one of them literally die to protect them and turn into a tree... that girl being the daughter of the king of the gods who did nothing until it was too late for her... Luke's resentment just grew. As a child of Hermes, he's situated in the Hermes cabin where dozens of unclaimed demigods, some probably even younger than him, stayed for years... he experiences and saw their anguish from being abandoned. He gets to see that every single day. EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR YEARS. In his eyes, these people that he can finally consider as family are being treated like shit by the parents that were supposed to protect them. What better way to get revenge by wiping them all out. Once you understand his experiences from Luke's eyes, you kinda get why he snapped like that. He probably grieved for the fallen demigods but many already died due to the whims and quests of the gods and more would just die if they continue to stay the same.
I think its interesting if you think 8-9 books further to heroes of olympus when percy is lukes age and his understanding of Luke increases with every book because he makes bad experiences with the gods (for example baccus in rome)
You know what's scary to think about that Percy trusted Luke so much, he basically viewed him as an older brother. The scary part is if Luke didn't reveal himself like that he could have probably manipulated him into hating the Gods to the point where he would join Kronos and since Percy was the child of the prophecy the Gods would've been screwed
thats terrifyingly true! Had he played a long game things might've been different and not in a good way. But I don't think Luke was willing to put in the time that would take.
Honestly there's so much about the quest for the Lightning Thief that could've EASILY went wrong and lost the war for CHB and the gods. - Percy being turned to stone by Medusa or succumbing to the Chimera poison would've meant the only probable candidates for the prophecy would've been Thalia (who could've been convinced more than Percy upon resurrection thanks to her closer connection to Luke to either join Kronos's side or be delayed enough in taking action against Luke that the battle would be nearly irrecoverable) or Nico who wouldn't have been old enough by the time the prophecy would've come to fruition (Bianca would likely still join the Hunters and discard her spot in the prophecy). - Had Percy been wearing the cursed shoes, he would've been pulled into Tartarus *_with_* the Master Bolt which would've caused all-out war between Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, a war of which would likely never result in the quest for the Golden Fleece (the only way Thalia gets revived) and likely would've never had Bianca and Nico leaving the Lotus Casino (Hades only sends a servant to collect and free them when tempers have died down and it'd arguably be safer for them outside, where they could be potential prophetic candidates; if he was at active war thinking his Helm was stolen he'd keep them hidden). - Percy’s loyalty could've easily been swayed had Luke gotten it more than Annabeth or the Camp. The quest for the Lightning Thief was Percy only going to rescue Sally, he states multiple times he wasn’t doing it for the gods and didn't have much love for them or a good impression of them given the few he'd interacted with at the time hadn’t been pleasant (Dionysis threatening him multiple times, Zeus hitting the car on the way to camp and also the Greyhound bus, as well as sending Echidna after Percy, Ares intentionally riling Percy up and forcing him on a side quest he didn't want to partake in, misconceptions about Poseidon's intents, the accusations of theft of the Master Bolt and the Helm of Darkness). The only thing that seemed to give doubt to Percy during Kronos's repeated dream visits was his instincts and the dead spirits of Hades's dominion trying to wake him. The scary thing is if that first quest had gone wrong at any point it likely would've been an indisputable loss against Kronos. The gods would've been at war and campers would've been picking sides, which would've made it much easier to sway people over to Kronos's side and amass an army pretty much unfettered, with either no living or present prophetic candidate that could’ve interfered by the time Kronos was ready (no quest for the Golden Fleece would be issued during active war, Bianca and Nico likely wouldn't be removed from the safety of the Lotus Casino until it would be too late, and Percy would either be dead or on the other team). That first quest going the way it did actually gave them all a chance to fight back against the King of Titans that had so many plans for things going certain ways. It's wild to think about
Dude this is so good, your art style is really cute. Little rant: Luke was really easy to hate as some of the stuff he did really made deep scars. But in the end it was also a very sad and sympathetic reason we could all understand.

He lost thalia, his best friend and person who he based his support system on, his mom chose being an Oracle over him, his father never went out of his way to contact him often or make sure he was ok AFTER his quest which failed and left him literally scarred. What he did was bad, there’s no doubt about it, but he was pushed to the point where he thought he had no choice but sacrifice himself for his cause. Even before he killed himself to kill Kronos, he knew that he’d never be able to return to the home he once had. He’s just a kid who got in too deep to escape. This made my day! Thank you so much! Even though its been a while since i drew this animatic i still think my best decision was having the sun set on them to capture the emotions of his betrayal and I'm so glad you liked that!
i adorn this!!! i love pjo are your art is spectacular🥺😭💖 the emotion is shown so well
Thank you!! The emotions you can hear in their voices was my driving force when creating this!! :)
this makes me feel really bad for luke
God I love that you did a background
Super late one, but this is literally the best thing ever!! I love this part of the song!!

Best part of the whole musical, no doubt.

Good twist villain scene
not sure if this is intentional but i love how luke's scar looks like the blade of a scythe

Good Kid reprise is amazing!
1:16 is my favorite part!

I like how you did the scorpion bit I haven't seen many that do that
Thank you for this :)
YES YES YES YES YES YES
Ejhhahhajamannan this is so sad:((((
But i absolutely LOVE your art!
I love how you actually showed that Percy was 13 and Luke was 19 when this took place, so many people draw them like they're the same age. And the flashback to Luke's quest was emotional af. Same with Thalia's tree. AND OH MY GODS THE EYE AT 1:10 MAKES ME SCREECH. Keep up the good work!^^
Me: **writing this peacefully**
Hurricane Laura outside: **"RAIN. RAIN. EVERYWHERE AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAAAA"**
The audio of the part says wait I was the lightning thief awakened me
Luke tried to murder a twelve year old kid.
Nah luke is a badboy nifty gon like him😭😭😭
Brilliant, amazing, spectacular... [Insert Lady Gaga meme]
dam
Hey Luke buddy. Good motive, still murder
1:33 dont mind me :)
Gee, it turned dark quickly.
I feel bad for Luke, I can kinda understand why he did what he did. Not saying it was right but I can understand.
Finally an annimatic that shows the age difference
I personally call it Good Kid Reprise
can you do the grover past / talia death?
i think the song is the tree on the hill
I wonder what was Luke fatal flaw??
Okay I know Luke is bad but how HE sings!! Why did they give him THAT vocals!! Just why!! WHY BAD BUT SINGS SO GOOD!!
How did it change from daytime to nighttime in about 10 seconds?
the drama increased the speed of the sunset
@@meesh4553 Apollo couldn't handle the drama unfolding and had to dip
