Hi, thanks for sharing this video. I would be really keen to see a side by side comparison of your BMCC 6K full frame and the PYXIS. I'm gradually softening on my stance of the Pyxis. Mainly because BM is releasing the very affordable separate monitor which has full camera control. I am curious though, as someone who has used the Ursa cameras, did you feel that the flip out screen they had wasn't enough? Were you still adding a separate monitor despite that? I ask because I still feel strongly that the Pyxis would be a much more versatile and functional camera if BM went with the same style of screen as on the Ursa line.
Thank you. Looking forward to your documentary and outdoor setup. Also wondering how this cam would work for occasional virtual production setup, any thoughts? Does it have gen lock?
oh! forgot to ask one question, do you have the Pocket6K EVF(also works on the cinema 6k)? if so, does that plug into and work with the "viewfinder" port on the Pyxis? Tilta sells an extender that could make it a viable EVF if that actually works(no idea if the size is the same.) Thanks Flo!
Nice. I’m quite surprised the BPU35 only lasted an hour though. Same as an NPF550 in the BMCC6k, but a battery about half the size. Great that you can put a bigger battery like a BPU90 in obviously, but I imagine a lot of people will just add a v-mount plate

I love Blackmagic cameras, but I’m really torn between upgrading my Pocket 6K to the Pyxis or the Ursa 12K (not the new Cinema 12K, the current one available). For me it’s about improving my image and camera form factor. Which would you recommend?
Well depends what you need it for. I have the g1 ursa and pocket 6k pro. And i shoot all kinds of docs, series and so on. If you need fast turnaround its better to have prores, and with different dynamic ranges (film, extended, video) you can have finished pucture or semi finished. So you need less time in post. Thats not to say Pocket has a bad picture, its really great, its just that Ursas is better. I prefere the ursa mini pros as they sit on my shoulder well, but im a stronger guy so i dont feel the weight and its balanced on my shoulder well. Solutions for that with the Pocket are somewhat messy. Partly due to how small it is and its shape, (on a shoulder rig its always front heavy with a bigger lense). Plus with connectors being where they are there are all these wires and bits sticking out and they r somewhat flimsy small. Ursa is the more comprahensive solution with better pro connections, such as 12g sdi, more of them and less wires in the way. Pocket you sometimes have to be creative if you want videoassist or SDI. How ever Pocket will get you into places and kind of shots Ursa couldnt easily because of its weight and size. Ofc you might get shakey more than Ursa if you dont have Easyrig or some other stabilization (atleast in the lense). Ofc if you are carrying it around in hard terrain for a long time its easier and the tripod with it is easier. If you dont have help weight matters. Speaking of which Pocket can go on gimbals while Ursa will have to go on a steady cam. Also its 15 stops dynamic range on the Ursa while pocket is 13. Ursa preserves more color info especially in extremes though. Meaning you can save under or over exposed shots, or parts of shots, so it looks good. Than pocket has a dual sensor where you can get a good picture at high ISOs, while i wouldnt dare shoot Ursa at 3200K in low light conditions. Ofc there is also the price difference Im sure im forgetting more things to mention. But in the end it depends what you need it for and the budget. If you have any more questions ask.
It’s not necessarily true that a camera with the same sensor is supposed to reproduce the same 1:1 image. For example LUMIX S5II and S5II(x) produce slightly different images. Would still be interesting to see how they would fare up

Hello 👋 Can you share some footages you take with this new camera and give your insights. The Focus system and how it works .. I am also planning for this camera but not sure yet , It would be great help if we can see how you use it in real time, do some bts of test footage ..
I’d love a comparison with the 6KFF even though they share the same sensor, I got some rumors from someone at BM that the delay on the Pyxis was because they were tweaking some things because of the amount of complaints from the sensor performance, personally I would love to get the Pyxis but I’m kind of afraid to do it since the 6KFF was offered as a deal for just $1500, for a better build quality and a monitor that’s sold separately with an SDI port as an extra I don’t know if it’s worth it if it’s the same performance as the 6KFF
Do you think you could do a video on the DJI focus pro? This is the first I've heard of it and it seems uniquely suited to BM cams. A pros and cons rundown would be very helpful!
Hey Florent, I just received today my Blackmagic URSA Cine EVF for my Blackmagic Pyxis camera from B&H. I was really excited to use it, but unfortunately upon testing it, I noticed that the EVF displayed a thin-faint purple/pink vertical line on the extreme right-hand side. I tested different ISOs, Lenses and USB-C cables that came in the box to see if it would go away but it's always there. I was wondering if you experienced or noticed anything like this with your model by any chance? I think I might have received a defective EVF.
@@OfTwoLands Strangely enough, it doesn’t show up when viewing in open gate, 5:6 or 4:3 for me. However, in any 17:9 or 16:9 ratio this vertical line shows up for me. I wonder if it’s software or hardware issue for me. Anyways, please do let me know if you experience anything too, otherwise I’ll contact BM or B&H. Thank you for your help!
Hmm no prores, (therefore no super sampling), no interchangeable mounts and that screen 😮. Think of all the extra mounting points they could have put there. I was really looking for a reason to go back to bm but if you have the 6k this is just a side step. Don’t get me wrong I love Bm (use bmraw all the time) just a little confused as to why they omitted these seemingly obvious features.
Would a simple laptop style usb-c to HDMI adapter allow you to plug in an HDMI monitor (which would have to get power from batteries etc of course)? I know it's a simple displayport connection but I don't know if those adapters work with that to convert to HDMI. Thanks for the video!
I'm intersted to get either BLACKMAGIC PYXIS 6K or BLACKMAGIC Cinema Camera 6K for a solo shoot. My question: If i wanted to achieve that handheld cinematic look without gittey movements in he footage. which one you think will help me to achieve that? Also which one will be easier to deal with manual focus consideing that i'll be a solo shoot. Thanks for your great contents
I really want to know If i can use the USB-c evf port with an USB-C to HDMI cable with a regular HDMI monitor. I cant find the answer anywhere. Thank you!
Since I have used the 6KFF the lack of ND is actually not a massive issue as I often use cinema IRNDs or VND. Low light has never been a problem for me and I've shot quite a few times is super low light.
So are the 60fps 4K modes cropped in or downsampled? Just curious because it shows a S35 and S16 crops for certain framerates but not for the 60fps modes.
This sensor seems to be the IMX410 which cannot physically downsampled 6k above 46fps. It's physically impossible. It could have done so by reducing the readout to 10bit linear but sony didn't include a readout mode like that at all
@@OfTwoLands it’s all good, I do a lot live audio and the downside to doing something full time you become sensitive to it. Great video! Looking forward to using more Blackmagic design equipment.
One more question ,Lenses I owe sony Fx3 ,Sony A7s3 and other sony cameras , i use Most GM sony Lenses ,never used a blackmagic before ,my question if i buy a L mount verson of the same camera ,can i use Sony Gm lenses on this body ? Pl reply this comment
Is the auto focus comparable to the Panasonic S5 II and are these box cameras water resistant? Would using it outside when it rains cause problems? Thanks
Do you think that a simple setup made of body, BM new monitor, lens, NPU battery and a small handle would work fine for solo shooters? I like that is small and compact and in case I’ll buy one, that’s how I would like to use it.
I have only the 35 and 70 but so far 1h constant with the 35. I’ve just came back from a test shoot and only used half after 1h of on and off with the 35 :)
would love to see some more resolutions like 2.8k 120fps or 1080 140 or 160fps, bulti in nds in maybe a future design and thats when ill probably pick one up but if they add more resolutions ill be picking one up, 2.8k especially 120fps is big in my work flow
It’s makes a ton of sense to get the Pyxis monitor now, not worried about power bpu batteries last long, but having a ton of mounts and maybe monitoring other monitors and follow focus system worries me a little. Any thoughts?
Is it possible to get a V-mount or Goldmount battery directly connected? It looks like the ports on the back of the camera would be in the way sort of like how Zcam was and Tilta with a v mount extension now the new Zcam is pointed more to the side. I would love to get the L-mount as well , I full set of pro L-mount lenses and PL .. I can’t use my L-mount lenses on the Zcam . I was hoping they would come out with an adapter but so far they haven’t.
I would have gotten one if it could at least do 50fps for the full sensor at 6k and more codec options than just BRAW. I also hate when cameras can’t downsample from the full sensor and have to crop in for lower resolutions, completely ruins the point of it being full frame for me. I’ll just save up my money and see what BM or Nikon, now that they bought Red, will do
Very nice! I am looking for a neat V-mount solution for power delivery. Though, I haven't seen many accessories/cage options that support such a solution. I'm leaning towards buying the top and side plate of 8sinn but those don't include a direct solution for a v-mount plate. Ideally I would like to see a battery plate that connects to the top plate such as Tilta has done on the fx6. I have seen Tilta's prototype at IBC but that doesn't sit flush with the back of the pyxis. I would love to see a v mount option that sits as close as possible to the back but still allows room for the sdi ports/media ports. Of course you can always go for a rod solution but that does add bulk. Does anybody have any good solutions they are looking at?
The cage shown here has 3” 15mm rods that mount directly to the back-so you can mount any AB or V battery plate to the cage and slide it as close to the camera as you like.
@@WillvonTagen Yes good one, it is a nice solution however I would love to see something like that with just a top plate instead of a cage which adds bulk and weight. Thanks for letting me know though!
Not sure why! Different thermal design. But then again the BPU I tested is 35wh and it latest nearly an hour so doesn't seem to be 60w unless I don't understand haha!

Thank you so much ,pl make an honest review video .. i am keenly waiting for it .. all the best @@OfTwoLands
Curious to see a reasonable run n gun/ gimbal setup with this camera.
First question is how screen would be resposive in cold (winter time), second questios rolling shutter. Is it same as on BMC 6K FF or it’s better?
Looking forward to a PYXIS 6k pro with intetnal nds ^^
Me too ☺️🔥
Can’t wait to see more about it bro 😎
Thank you my man!! Come here and check it out :)
trèes bien, felicitations
☺️🙏
Is the input for the D-tap cable the same as previous pocket cameras or did it change?
It’s a lemo 2 now ☺️
@@OfTwoLands Guess would have to buy a new one then.
Thanks man.
A few people have asked about this so will do my best asap as always ☺️👍
@@OfTwoLands appreciate it, love your work man, cheers from Honduras 🇭🇳!
Do you think you could do a video on the DJI focus pro? This is the first I've heard of it and it seems uniquely suited to BM cams. A pros and cons rundown would be very helpful!
@@SpaceGhostNZ I’ve done a full in depth review already ☺️👍
@@OfTwoLands So you did! Don't know how I missed that. Unfortunately I mainly shoot with 24-105 Canon so it might not work for me :(
Hey Florent, I just received today my Blackmagic URSA Cine EVF for my Blackmagic Pyxis camera from B&H.
Oh no! I’ll have a look asap on mine 👍
Great review! The camera looks great. Do you know of any companies that are making VND Lens adapters? (Like L - EF)?
Thank you!! I am not sure but NISI, Meike and Mofage make similar kinds of adapters so maybe they have that.
@@OfTwoLands thanks!
Nice cage! I've been looking at that L mount one
It’s pretty neat 🔥
Is this like… newer than the other blackmagic box camera?
Didn’t they just come out with that? Or is this different?
@@TheSteveKinney It is the new one :)
Touchscreen interfaces suck. But BM color is pretty darn nice to work with.
They both weight about the same. You would need to rig both up a bit so they are heavier. It’s the weight that makes handheld shots smoother.
I really want to know If i can use the USB-c evf port with an USB-C to HDMI cable with a regular HDMI monitor. I cant find the answer anywhere. Thank you!
if not you can use a SDI to HDMI converter but to be fair why not using a SDI Monitor or the original monitor?
@@meyerdigitalfilm im thinking more about having multiple ports to use It with multiple acessories as transmitters such as cineye
I had the exact same question. A Blackamgic rep said it's DisplayPort, so I guess it could work. @OfTwoLands any possibility of trying tit?
The body style seems better for rigging in a documentary project, but do you find the lack of ND and low light performance an issue?
Since I have used the 6KFF the lack of ND is actually not a massive issue as I often use cinema IRNDs or VND. Low light has never been a problem for me and I've shot quite a few times is super low light.
So are the 60fps 4K modes cropped in or downsampled? Just curious because it shows a S35 and S16 crops for certain framerates but not for the 60fps modes.
This sensor seems to be the IMX410 which cannot physically downsampled 6k above 46fps. It's physically impossible. It could have done so by reducing the readout to 10bit linear but sony didn't include a readout mode like that at all
4k modes are a s35 crop
I have a 6k pro, do you think I should upgrade to that pyxis? I shoot short films and stuff!
Great video but might want to work on getting a “Desser” or EQ some of your highs a little better. Good video no hate!
Thanks!! I used the wrong recording setting for that one and realised when it was too late 😅
@@OfTwoLands it’s all good, I do a lot live audio and the downside to doing something full time you become sensitive to it. Great video! Looking forward to using more Blackmagic design equipment.
Internal ND would have made this camera so good.
I’d say it would have made it even better! Probably next version :)
One more question ,Lenses
I owe sony Fx3 ,Sony A7s3 and other sony cameras , i use Most GM sony Lenses ,never used a blackmagic before ,my question if i buy a L mount verson of the same camera ,can i use Sony Gm lenses on this body ?
Pl reply this comment
Not if they are E mount. Better to get into an ef or pl ecosystem as you can always adapt to different mounte
Is the auto focus comparable to the Panasonic S5 II and are these box cameras water resistant? Would using it outside when it rains cause problems? Thanks
This caméra is waterproof and Can go as deep as the Titanic.
Do you think that a simple setup made of body, BM new monitor, lens, NPU battery and a small handle would work fine for solo shooters? I like that is small and compact and in case I’ll buy one, that’s how I would like to use it.
I really think so yes and I intend to shoot that way a lot too!
Do you find the image to be better than your ursa 12k with the full frame sensor on the camera ?
Can the side monitor be turned off when using the EVF or secondary monitor?
Thanks for that quick insight! How high does the optical center sit above the rods when using this cage?
No worries! I haven't used the cage yet so not too sure but I don't think it is tall enough for LWS if that's what you are thinking about.
Does this camera have an hdmi out for a monitor? Great video!
Thank you!! Only SDI
@@OfTwoLands Thanks!
Does it have same iso performance as black magic full frame ?
Could you do a battery life comparison between 35, 70 and 98 watts bp-u batteries?
I have only the 35 and 70 but so far 1h constant with the 35. I’ve just came back from a test shoot and only used half after 1h of on and off with the 35 :)
would love to see some more resolutions like 2.8k 120fps or 1080 140 or 160fps, bulti in nds in maybe a future design and thats when ill probably pick one up but if they add more resolutions ill be picking one up, 2.8k especially 120fps is big in my work flow
The Pyxis Pro should be a beast! I think they could do 4K 120.
ursa 12k sensor in the pyxis, gogo bm
YES !
It’s makes a ton of sense to get the Pyxis monitor now, not worried about power bpu batteries last long, but having a ton of mounts and maybe monitoring other monitors and follow focus system worries me a little. Any thoughts?
@@TheContentShak just a thought, maybe the G2 eye piece could work if there is a way change the power and connection!
@@redumbrella4218 would be nice, I saw a video years ago with the bm viewfinder used on a Sony a7s2, so maybe

Never seen a "Short" that was this long...
I watched the entire thing lol
Haha thanks, but who said it was short?
I would have gotten one if it could at least do 50fps for the full sensor at 6k and more codec options than just BRAW. I also hate when cameras can’t downsample from the full sensor and have to crop in for lower resolutions, completely ruins the point of it being full frame for me. I’ll just save up my money and see what BM or Nikon, now that they bought Red, will do
Is the IQ the same as the BMCC6K including the high ISO?
Yes, it's the same sensor, but better thermal design.
Yes!
just wonder what is a difference between bm 6k pro. same sensor ect. is it just a shape?
Can you turn off the side screen to save battery?
I don't think you can unfortunately!
If it’s anything like the full frame camera you can turn the brightness down to save a bit of battery
Is it true that this one has a 16:9 mode in 5/6k?
Hi, can u use a usb-c to hdmi adapter to attach a monitor over the evf port?
Get the broadcast 6k V2 instead
@@WillvonTagen Yes good one, it is a nice solution however I would love to see something like that with just a top plate instead of a cage which adds bulk and weight. Thanks for letting me know though!
Excellent !!!!
Thank you mate, super excited!!
It's weird because you can get a used Ursa G2 for the same price with better specs, unfortunately only 4K res. But still.....
Plus NDs and (2) XLT
😂😂
I think as always it depends on the person and the work. I had the G2 and I much prefer for the Pyxis or the Pocket line for example.
Ursa G2 doesn't have Gen 5 Color Science though.
@@OfTwoLands interesting, why is that?
Does it has linear focus custom setting for focus rotation degrees, like Panasonic cameras, so we can use like cine lens focus rotation?
Finally they went cubed. This is what they should have done instead of the 6kpro!
What haha? The 6K Pro is amazing as it is!
The power draw of this camera is 60W whereas the BMCC FF uses half of it. Any idea why?
Not sure why! Different thermal design. But then again the BPU I tested is 35wh and it latest nearly an hour so doesn't seem to be 60w unless I don't understand haha!
I would love to know your battery setup and the backup this camera gives.. Thankyou and all the best ❤
