  • Registered for the road just before the end of WW2, this old Scammell lorry, with a 150 Gardner engine, has been gathering dust in a barn for the last 20+ years.
Around 1960, this lorry was involved in a jackknife accident, and was sent back to Scammell, where it was fitted with a newer style cab, and a bigger engine.
This video is about stripping the injector pump, to make sure everything is okay before attempting to start the engine (which will hopefully be the subject of my next video)

Funnily enough, I was talking to the owner today, and he told me he's hoping to fire it up in the next week or so.
      Fingers crossed!

@@TomRelubbus Oh. It looked like it would only take half an hour to fix it all up. (I'm joking). I shall continue to try to contain my excitement while the work progresses!

The end of the month, we're hoping to get the Scammell running again.
I've posted another video about bringing the green showman's living van home, followed by a short one showing some of the repairs.
      Thanks for the interest

Part 2 is going to be a bit of a wait I'm afraid, because the chap has gone up to Sussex for a few weeks!
But he will be back, and mighty Gardner will roar into life again.
      Thanks for watching, Tom

Dont think that is a 1945 vehicle late 50s early 60s , there was not a gardner 150 in 1945, it would have had a 6 LW.

The lorry was first registered for the road in April 1945.
In the 1960s after an accident, it went back to the Scammell factory, where it was re-cabbed with a Highwayman cab, and fitted with the bigger Gardner engine.
There's a video on YT of the lorry with its original cab, look for "Westfield Transport Ltd: Cine film from January 1948"
The lorry still bears the same number plate, GNN 694

I keep nagging him to get it running, but he's been busy clearing other stuff out of the barn and so keeps putting it off.
It will get started - but not for the next few weeks I fear

It first went on the road in April 1945, with the original cab, but years afterwards the lorry went back to Scammell, and was fitted with a later cab.
Search on YT for:- Westfield Transport Ltd, cine film from 1948
The lorry pulling the tank, is this lorry with the original cab.
It's still got the same number plate
