I had experience with those type switches as a Yamaha servicer. Cleaning like that won't do, you have to take them apart and clean the several sections like VCR mode switches. They tarnish internally just like a mode switch. A re-do is pretty likely.
Yeah, I was already thinking... might want to wait until the contact cleaner has vaporized and everything is dry again before returning it to the customer. Just to see if it's not just working because it's wet and all.
The best,harder and ultimate solution is to desolder and open the switch to clean the contacts.Glass brush pencils help a lot.Similar cases are vcr position encoders and volume multiturn rotary encoders.But for quick and easy fix contact cleaner sprays are best option also if the contacts after spraying seems to work stable for a couple of days then the job probably will last.

This one still working fine. It's my unit by the way. I some times lie and say people bring me stuff when in fact they give it to me. It's still working as I was just listening to it the other day as I am going to sell it off and i check everything over before sending out. The key to keeping them working is change inputs to keep the contacts clean.

Yup,, I replaced many in and out of warranty. The fix was an upgraded switch that had gold contacts.

What kind of spray do you use?
I'm guessing Nu-trol if he has it, or something else from MG Chemicals. The can looks like an MGC.
