Fantastic car, great review -will be my 1st Porsche. Cancelled an order for an Audi TT RS. Had a 427 Shellby Cobra and enjoyed the stick. No top, no power anything and tiring on long drives but lots of fun..
I really enjoy these kinds of reviews as i've watched this a few times now just to listen to the exhaust note. Talk more about how the car connect to the driver, how exhaust/engine sounds in your ear while you are in the car and outside of the car and less about how many seconds it takes to run a mile(there are enough of those out there anyways) because really, not many people in the real world would actually take this car to a drag race or track.
Was hoping I wouldn't see people still wondering this anymore. TH-cam doesn't update its view counter automatically, it does it at certain intervals, for a newly released video that has a lot of subs you'll typically see a number in the low 300's when you first see it. So this is why you can often see a higher like/dislike number than the views.
When talking about Porsche and transmission it`s always important to think of how that car is going to be used. There are lots of people who drive their 911 or Boxster/Cayman 24/7 all year. That includes going to work, shopping, on holidays and so forth. That is the reason why these people prefer the PDK, as it`s less tiring. If it`s used for sunday joy rides only, they go for a manual. A Porsche is an everyday sportscar afterall, so the PDK makes sense as an option.
@st1ckycheese Yes, PDK basically is Automatic, but it comes with paddle shifters, but with the new Boxster instead of paddle shifters they give you two buttons on the steering wheel, but you don't have to use them if you don't want to.
Preference plays a big part yes, but from experience I learned that society has it`s role in this decision as well. Like you said, believing that you were talking about America, many people can`t really use a manual as they aren`t used to it and only learned how to drive an automatic. In Europe it`s the other way around. Over 80% of all cars are manuals. Only old or lazy people use an automatic. It is also very rare for a driving school to have an automatic.
You're probably right. Porsche does know how make a just good enough but not too good to fit a certain price point in their line-up. I'm just wondering because the new boxters is a huge step forwards opposed to the new 911 which is getting a bit mixed reviews.
I do agree though, the Boxster's steering and handling is outstanding. When you are going 100mph, you can not feel a thing man. Straight corners are like nothing for this car. I seriously have to always look at how fast I am going lol as I am always going past 80 without knowing it. No pressure or rough driving. Fun car to drive. 911/991 and Boxster are my favourites. I also love the 993.
it looks flat and steady but still pretty involving and lively.Great car! i like what porsche is doing (even though they switched for electric pwsteering)
No matter what you do, people will always complain. If they put a in the 7 speed PDK, people will say, its taking away from driving experience. If they put a manual transmission, people will say, they need to work too hard. At the end of the day, people have different preferences. I prefer manual though.
I appreciated the old Boxster, but it did have that "poor man's Porsche" connotation. However, as said by the reviewer, this one can't really be called that because it just looks way too good. It's a great car on it's own and could be an alternative to a 911 regardless of price. I'll have one in Silver (black rims) with red interior.
That probably won`t happen, but there was talk about a possible 2 seater Panamera. I know it would kill the Panameras purpose, but if done right it could become the 928 successor.
Re: manual v auto For those that choose their car to enjoy driving it, a manual is more involving and gives you more control. People who buy cars like these in auto are interested more in image, than enjoying the car for what it is. To give an example, the BMW E36 328i. ~80% were sold as auto. Yet today, you can't sell an auto, whereas the manuals are sought after. This is because people buying these cars now only want them to enjoy them. Performance cars are for driving.
im gonna be honest, i didnt like the boxster until i saw this one :) if i were looking for a sports car not that expensive, ill look at this boxster its vey nice :) i like it
Having always been a 911 guy, until my family grew too large and had to trade for something with more utility, I've always looked down on the Boxster. I could be that I've not been driving Porsche too long, but I really love this new Boxster. And its so cheap...compared to a 911S...
I agree that you buy an optional PDK, you may use it for long journeys and in your daily lid and that's ok. What I happen not to agree is that Porsche is considering PDK for cars like the GT3, perhaps the use people this car lookimg forward for road behavior rather than tracks', nevertheless if they do the same thing with a RS-line car, they will spoil their traditional driving sensation, let the drivers use driver's cars
I was never that bothered by the boxter before. I always just thought its alright but a bit boring to look at, with this new one however just on the strength of this video I think it could become one of my new favourite cars.
You must be the only person who doesn't like it. I myself think this is the best looking boxster yet due to the designers finally being able to start from a clean sketch and not having to use 911 parts. What other cars can you get that are mid engined, look this good and recieve such amazing reviews about the way it drives? Porsche know exactly what they are doing, and will make a shitload of money from it. Why should they waste their time trying to make it appeal to you?
No such thing as a poor man's Porsche. They are EXPENSIVE to fix lol. That is why I started learning everything myself and saved a couple thousand so far. Anyways, the new Boxster does look pretty great. The part I love the most is the side air intakes. Those look like the Carrera GT or how a super car would usually have it and I am jealous =P. I do have a 01 Boxster S and I love it to death, but now I wish I had that side body style.
I own several German automobiles. I do all the maintenance and repairs to them. I am not in the market to get another. I'm a huge fan of the air-cooled Porsche and the new Technological miracles from Stuttgart. This is the poor mans' Porsche. I critique the direction Porsche has taken with the Boxter and to some degrees with the 911 and unapologetic so.
Another amazing piece of motoring journalism by Henry and the Evo team. I've bought a 16 plate 981 S.....Love it :)
You really have to see one of these in person to really appreciate how stunning it looks.
wow! what an amazing car! finally....after all these years, the Boxster looks as it should, like a true mid engined convertible sports machine.
Having seen the Boxster, I can't wait now for the Cayman.
the sports exhaust is absolutely mindblowing when you hear it live
Another excellent video Henry (props to Sam R. for the capturing of the beautiful shots as well). cheers...
Ive been in it, and the double clutch is absolutely insane. The shift time is close to 0... just wish I had the money to buy one now.
EXCELLENT reviewer. Very genuine. Loved the review. Oh, let's see how the Cayman turns out. CAN'T WAIT :D
Irresistable !!! Did everyone feel the same kind of lust to drive this car ?!!!!!
Fantastic car, great review -will be my 1st Porsche. Cancelled an order for an Audi TT RS. Had a 427 Shellby Cobra and enjoyed the stick. No top, no power anything and tiring on long drives but lots of fun..
Just filmed a review myself and my press car had the PDK.
Never liked it but the new PDK feels epic ! Such a lovely car to film and drive !
amazing review short but made me smile watching it.
Love how quickly he gives up on driving conservatively, good bloke!
great video Evo!
I was waiting for this! And with HC making the review, as he already made the 987 test drive! Thanks...
i love it. Make a longer review!
paddles are also an option in the new boxster. i had them in a boxster testdrive two weeks ago. i think they come with the sport steering wheel.
Beautiful car. And awesome review video. That exhaust is awesome, and the 'bubble'/'crackle' reminds me of my BMW 335iS exhaust. Solo nice!
I'm going to do everything in my power to make this my next car. No matter how I get it, I'm getting it.
Did you get it? Im also looking to buy a 981 s or non s
981 cayman or boxster s, one day 🥲
Music is vital part of this video. Nice montage.

i want this car as my first sports car.

The people that call it the "poor man's Porsche" ....are normally the ones that can't afford it!
Best looking boxter by far! Great job Porsche.
wonderful looking car with an amazing sound.
That looks like a really fun road for a Porsche!
It's bloody brilliant! Porsche's got it spot on!
@st1ckycheese Yes, PDK basically is Automatic, but it comes with paddle shifters, but with the new Boxster instead of paddle shifters they give you two buttons on the steering wheel, but you don't have to use them if you don't want to.
Nice one Henry! More like this please :)
Dig that exhaust note when the sports mode is on
Chris Harris review kills this one! They never shouldve let him go!
The over-run sound is just WOOHOOOOOOOO!!! =)
I really want this Boxster now, it looks even better than the new 911!

It's design philosophy has changed, I love the 993.
EVO, thank YOU for this epic work that You do on Your YT channel, it really makes me smile! :D
You're probably right. Porsche does know how make a just good enough but not too good to fit a certain price point in their line-up. I'm just wondering because the new boxters is a huge step forwards opposed to the new 911 which is getting a bit mixed reviews.
I've always been in the Boxter camp, never been a huge fan of the Cayman, No doubt it'll be a brilliant car.

In a way, that's bad. Do you have to break speed limits to feel the rush...as opposed to a Miata?
Best review eva
does the roof color from inside the boxster comes the same as the interior color?
it looks flat and steady but still pretty involving and lively.Great car! i like what porsche is doing (even though they switched for electric pwsteering)
i'm a sucker for roadsters so i would still go for the boxster :)
can't believe i would say this, but the Boxster looks to be better than the current 911.. still want a 997 GT3 though..
keep them coming boys
the new 911 is an equally amazing car. porsche's line up looks look to better than its ever been before in the near future.
No matter what you do, people will always complain. If they put a in the 7 speed PDK, people will say, its taking away from driving experience. fan bloody tastic!! looks good sounds good think i'll be getting this!!
That probably won`t happen, but there was talk about a possible 2 seater Panamera. I know it would kill the Panameras purpose, but if done right it could become the 928 successor.
Boxster competes with Z4, SLK, TT RS, etc. but most view it (especially the newer 2012/2013 models) to perform much better than its competitors. :)
Actually wouldn't mind owning one of these now.
Re: manual v auto
For those that choose their car to enjoy driving it, a manual is more involving and gives you more control. People who buy cars like these in auto are interested more in image, than enjoying the car for what it is.

Awesome review! Awesome Car! ;)
is a boxster comparable to a z4 or is it in a league of its own?
are you sure about that ? the cayman is more rigid and in almost every single model it accelerates a bit.
This was my first thought when I first saw this car. But it looks nice though.
what if you want to have a mid engined roadster?
I'd like evo to do a vid with this car on track, I'd like a high speed flat out corner footage please....
im gonna be honest, i didnt like the boxster until i saw this one :) if i were looking for a sports car not that expensive, ill look at this boxster its vey nice :) i like it
Unless you upgrade to the 20" Carrera classic wheels than it really isn't worth the money, the wheels make this car look perfect.
Can't wait to see the Cayman
Having always been a 911 guy, until my family grew too large and had to trade for something with more utility, I've always looked down on the Boxster. I could be that I've not been driving Porsche too long, but I really love this new Boxster. And its so cheap...compared to a 911S...
fantastic!

Whoever this guys is, I like! +1
This is one amazing machine.
i have to agree. it's fantastic. the engine sounds so fantastic. handling is absolutely world class
Guys dors this car comes with an automatic transmition?
Yes they will. Just like with the last generation boxster. And it will probably be slightly slower than the base 911
The audio in this video could use some work. Straining to hear what he's saying sometimes.
What language is this?
Yes, you are right.
Ofcourse. It is a normal 7 speed automatic normally, then in S mode, shifts earlier. Then you can also put it in "manual" mode.
since its a german car you can customize it from the engine to the badges on the back. however you like it. nothing to complain about...
Hmm nice porsche, but what I would really want to see is even more puffier sideburns
I like this guy reviews!
for the first time.....ive started to like the boxter!

5 series?
i dunno. I have a 997 S, and I may sell it for the cayman S...you just cant compete with a midengine car......
Price???
Gris is the greatest He is now on the "Drive" channel
Roof down in the snow? Brave
Yes

Miss my 2002 s have a 2009s much faster but still miss the 2002s
amazing car, i like it more than the 991
I like this car
but will they even launch a Cayman anymore? This boxters is so good that the cayman might end up being better than the base 911?
Cant wait for the cayman s!
thumb ^ for STICK shift
Brilliant car!!

Easily best looking boxster. Wonder what the new Cayman would bring to the table?
Yes.
At last, a Boxster I want.
