Powercreep meant that more and more decks got GY access and by now Konami has introduced a third - or rather two-and-a-halfth - place where cards can be whence they are all but impossible to recur during the game: face-down banishment. This dynamic seems inevitable if you rely on stronger and stronger cards and decks - in particular ones that utilise the graveyard, or the banished zone - to make money off the game.

I love the virus cards in Lair-Decks, specifically LairNoids. Tribute away their boss monster with Eradicator, effectively lock them out of Spells for three turns and gain hand knowledge. Super nice.
I love virus/lair control. It is a pretty solid bonus getting full vision on your opponent. And I really helps making informed plays.. Though the fact that eradicator can shut down some decks is much better than the 1extra turn of knowledge
I created one as an anti meta deck and it works so well against the big bad decks but it really needs help against things that love going to the graveyard.
Man, I played Yu-gi-oh as a primary school kid when we had no goddamn clue what we were doing, and even then I'd put Trap Dustshoot in everything because I knew there was almost literally no downside to it.

I feel like Grinning Grave Virus is slept on a lot. Forcing your opponent to send monsters to GY is normally bad, but not allowing them to activate GY effects from those cards can be very devastating
Not going to lie, there's something to satisfying about successfully resolving SPYRAL - Gear Drone turn 1 and overreacting to your opponents deck before stacking it.
Honestly, i think these should all be brought back at 3. If for no other reason than to slow the game down. a game that ends in under 5 minutes, or that takes more than 5 minutes just for player one to set up their board, just isn't fun to watch and it's only fun to play if you win.
Forceful Sentry and Confiscation at 3 would literally make the game a coin flip more than it already is. 1st turn guy draws one of these, uses it and gets rid of any potential combo starter or hand his opponent might have and does their combo, probably setting a negate or 2. The second turn guy would literally be able to do NOTHING about it, even if he lucks drawing another combo starter, the turn 1 guy could already has their negates ready. See my point?

Honestly an effect that I believe could make a list all on its own is "monster snatching" a mechanic that even in early yugioh with snatch steal is one absolutely disastrous thing to deal with.
if Ghoti can manage without "The Most Distant, Deepest Depths" then "Magellanica, the Deep Sea City" has potential, its not as strong as confiscation or sentry. if you can summon a Water Synchro on your turn you can look at your opponents hand and temp banish a card. it can also increase a Water monsters level by 1 or 2 making XYZ and Synchro easier. additionally its an Umi which can means it can turn "Kairyu-Shin" into a floodgate.
It's literally one of those cards you can auto-include in any deck. Doesn't matter what you're playing or what your win strategy is. There may be a few exceptions to this, but even if it's just a 90% (or even 80) inclusion, it's just way too good. But as a dumb kid, you look at this and you might think: Why would I play this? I lose a card and he will get his card back later. That's dumb. You don't think about how denying a key card to your opponent can cripple them for several turns to come, if not outright lose them the game on the spot. Teens and adults would know better, but a kid might look at this and say: Nah, not good. That's pretty much the only scenario I can imagine in which someone would say that.
I am _so_ mad that they banned Trap Dustshoot but then later released trickstar reincarnation. From a competitive standpoint, a hand rip is more valuable than banishing and refilling your opponent's hand (unless you have Droll). In fact you'd probably have to do a whole new list of "TCG legal Spy cards" since the Spy cards that hand rip going hand neutral are inevitably get banned. One of the few things I agree with the OCG is that you don't need to ban smoke grenade since equip spells are clunky and noble knights aren't good enough to need a nerf, I am not on page with whoever thought 2 copies of Evenly Matched and any copies of Maxx "C" was a great idea. In fact touching Master Duel and then jumping ship weeks later made me go from "Maxx 'C' should be 1" to "I don't want to see that card draw a hand trap again... so therefore I don't want to see it again." The exception might be within the Trickstar archetype but being more valuable within the archetype than out of it would be the whole point. Oh and... I don't think any top 8 even main decked Dustshoot in the last 3 formats before it got banned, so apparently there weren't enough opponents with 4 cards in their hand to make this consistent. From a casual player's perspective, it is _heartbreaking_ to see pieces of your deck that you will never recover. If it goes to the graveyard and it has no effect there, you can put it back in your deck with Pot of Averice. If you suffer a hand rip sending the card into your deck, you can hope to get it back later and by turn 7 or 8, you probably drew either that literal card or another copy. "Turn 7? Game's over by them dumbo" well true from a competitive standpoint, but most casual decks (which I'll define as low rated players in YGOPro before that whole thing became abandonware) brick at least 1/4 of the time, having little to do on turns 1 or 2 other than normal summon and set cards that they probably can't use turn 3 unless they get a lucky draw. This is also why I think cards like DD Crow are badly designed. If these single target banish cards had the effect to return their stuff to the deck on your opponent battle phase on their 4th turn after the card was banished, then they would retain their competitive use of being able to respond to cards that revive themselves from the graveyard since it would interrupt their revive. And 8 turns (4 of your and 4 of your opponents) is _forever_ in modern Yu-Gi-Oh anyways. But by eventually allowing those who suffered the banish to get their cards back, it would allow casual players to be able to recover by stalling. Stalling with a combo based deck when your combo is interrupted is impossible in tournament play, but very possible in casual when an opponent might be able to interrupt your combo but then have nothing better to do than poke with 1400 ATK every turn while making face downs since they bricked due to an bloated deck.
Duo removes cards from an opponent's hand WITHOUT looking at it, it removs a random one you choose and then your opponent chooses, but you never actually see the cards in teir hand.

Trap Dustshoot. In YugiOh Ultimate Master Duel 2006 for GBA sometimes the game/system will not allow you to activate your Trap Dustshoot even when the AI Opponent has 4 or more cards in their hands. The system will allow you to activate your TD after the AI opponent already set a monster or play a monster. So basically the AI/Game/System will cheat on you when the duel is in your favor.
In the super early games, like GX Duel academy, it got real annoying when you would be asked every single phase of every single turn if you wanted to activate a card that was possible to activate at any time. So some games would compensate. Holding A would ask if you wanted to activate an effect or at least "pause" the game so you could look at the board, but if you didn't do this the game would wait to ask until your opponent did an action, like playing a monster/spell/trap. That could be what's going on with that.

There is no card that can be activated. Will you look or check the field?" You deny it. It will ask again..."There is no card that can be activated. Will you look or check the field?"..and if you're not careful enough and keep denying you might end up skipping the..."It is before damage calculation. Will you activate an card's effect".
@@SCH292 Speaking of, in gx duel academy IFL had a glitch where it only worked if YOU were the one attacking. So you try activating it defensively and you lose 2000 and then take battle damage. Made the card almost worthless.

The SYSTEM just like to cheat by deck stacking and rigging the duel. Also when the AI uses Last Will spell card regardless if a monster was send to their graveyard on the turn or not at the end of the Main Phase 2 the AI will still get to special summon an monster. When you use Last Will you have to go by the rules.
@@SCH292 Is Master Duel 2006 the one with no story mode, just tiers of 5 monster duelists you have to beat 5 or 10 times each to get to the next one? I remember there were 2 duelists that always kicked my ass if they got their combos off. Demise can just nuke the board and get a direct attack. Then there's Horus, who can just block all spell cards, where most of my removal lies.
Probably most cards would be ones from the sangan story, because there most cards shown in the artworks are banned or have been banned, like graceful charity, cyber-stein, magical scientist or delinquent duo.

I thought maybe Goddess Skuld's Oracle would've made the honorable mentions list. You don't have to control a Valkyrie monster to play or activate it's effects. Looking at the top 3 cards and rearranging them however you like isn't bad at all. It gives you deck knowledge and some control.
an honorable mention should go to deep sea minstrel, it makes you ditch itself and one other to look at your opponents hand and banish a card till the end phase. its good in atlantean strats because you can pitch dragoons with it and get information on your opponents hand.
I'm surprised there wasn't any mention of cards that could look at your opponent's extra deck like Winter Cherries or true king Lithsagym the disaster. Being able to get rid of cards in their extra deck could win you the game in some instances.

What is wrong with his forehead, is he really angry, or is he wearing a wrinkly body suit, is this some kind of Deadpool person? Can't believe Inzektors never got a mention about Smoke Grenade. They had a combo with it back in the XYZ format. eh... oh and for Red Lotus... no mention of Duel Links about it. Sure the cost was big for Duel Links... starting with only 4k LP... but it was a big card to have in the history of the game.
From an early player, Confiscation was generally used on Yata, Chaos End Dragon, Black Luster Soldier or spells and traps since they couldn't be easily recurred. Sentry was used on monster you didn't want to see but also didn't want them to have in their graveyard.

Nah, 1500’s been a baseline for a long time. The attribute recruiters (Giant Rat, Mystic Tomato, Shining Angel), the type recruiters (Masked Dragon and UFORoid) and Bottomless Trap Hole have made the distinction that 1500 is the line.

If you chain Labrynth Barrage after Eradicator you can choose both spell and traps, getting rid of all the backrow for three turns instantly also!

@@SCH292 Speaking of, in gx duel academy IFL had a glitch where it only worked if YOU were the one attacking. So you try activating it defensively and you lose 2000 and then take battle damage. Made the card almost worthless.
@@kyuubinaruto17 Lol. People said that Ultimate Master Duel 2006 GBA is hard to beat. It's not hard. The AI is just smarter when activating cards or card effect. The SYSTEM just like to cheat by deck stacking and rigging the duel. Also when the AI uses Last Will spell card regardless if a monster was send to their graveyard on the turn or not at the end of the Main Phase 2 the AI will still get to special summon an monster. When you use Last Will you have to go by the rules.

I remember there were 2 duelists that always kicked my ass if they got their combos off. Demise can just nuke the board and get a direct attack. Then there's Horus, who can just block all spell cards, where most of my removal lies.

Deep sea minstrel though. If I had dragoons I start my combi while I stop my opponents from interacting with the hand trap that would stop them from disrupting my plays and then I'd win by the time they woukda gotten the hand trap back

I thought maybe Goddess Skuld's Oracle would've made the honorable mentions list. You don't have to control a Valkyrie monster to play or activate it's effects. Looking at the top 3 cards and rearranging them however you like isn't bad at all. It gives you deck knowledge and some control.

an honorable mention should go to deep sea minstrel, it makes you ditch itself and one other to look at your opponents hand and banish a card till the end phase. its good in atlantean strats because you can pitch dragoons with it and get information on your opponents hand.
Yep. If it gets negated, the Atlantean effect still goes off which almost guarantees some kind of benefit.
I'm surprised there wasn't any mention of cards that could look at your opponent's extra deck like Winter Cherries or true king Lithsagym the disaster. Being able to get rid of cards in their extra deck could win you the game in some instances.

Can't believe Inzektors never got a mention about Smoke Grenade. They had a combo with it back in the XYZ format. eh... oh and for Red Lotus... no mention of Duel Links about it. Hear me out guys...they play Maxx "C", you summon until they have 4 cards, then you set Trap Dustshoot.
From an early player, Confiscation was generally used on Yata, Chaos End Dragon, Black Luster Soldier or spells and traps since they couldn't be easily recurred. Sentry was used on monster you didn't want to see but also didn't want them to have in their graveyard.
There will be another Zoodiac Barrage like card. Hold on to those Appointers.
If Forceful Sentry was allowed, don't forget to let out your best evil villain laugh before playing it. Monologue optional, but recommended.

Nah, 1500’s been a baseline for a long time. The attribute recruiters (Giant Rat, Mystic Tomato, Shining Angel), the type recruiters (Masked Dragon and UFORoid) and Bottomless Trap Hole have made the distinction that 1500 is the line.
