Love Ackroyd's work. A writer that can hint at the esoteric without ever becoming whimsical or impenetrable. His vision is completely compelling to me.
Peter Ackroyd is a treasure. I love his biographies (CHAUCER, SHAKESPEARE, BLAKE, DICKENS, etc.), his books on LONDON and VENICE, his novel, HAWKSMOOR. A fine writer, indeed.
Sadly his anti establishment and royalist view vastly skew and undermine the accuracy of his findings, interpretations and recordings across much of his work. If you read any Ackroyd work also reference other sources to obtain an informed balance.
The questions were quite boring as if the interviewer had nothing to ask. What is the “how many books do you read outside your work”? Man you’re lost MINUTES for such stupid question, my god
"What do you do outside of writing"? "I drink...and that's about it" haha. Top man!
Such a profilic fascinating writer. I've only read 20% of his writing. i am baffled by his depth and range. Breathless.

Diamond Geezer. Thanks for posting this.
He's such a good biographer. It's hard to choose which one of his books is the best.
"I drink...' Brilliance and sadness
'I drink. And that's about it.'
haha he is surely a fun guy to hang out with
William Blake ...interesting 😏
thankd

Great writer but I’m at a loss as to why he chose Blake over Harry VIII or Cromwell.
Ah yes, that great figure of the Reformation, the English Constitution, and the Royal Navy, Harry VIII. ;)
National Treasure

Love Ackroyd. Can't stand pompous & shallow thinking interviewer, Matthew Stadlen.
From a 5 minute snippet in which he asked fairly straightforward & relevant questions, I'm not sure how it's possible to reach that conclusion.
