    This K-Tech rear shock has completely transformed the XSR 900 - the install was much easier than I thought it would be and the red spring looks great. As a lighter rider, the stock suspension setup was way too stiff; the spring rate of this gives me the right amount of sag and the ride feels great.

    you made it look very easy.. I saw many video's of people changing their suspensions and they made it look impossible. Very nice job!

    Great clear video very precise. I too have the same bike and shock.

    Thanks for the video. There was a little bit of free play on both the bottom and top mount once I had the shock loosely fitted. Once torqued down and on the side stand everything appears tight but I thought I would see if you remember any free play when you did your install.
    For the record, I just installed my shock and it took over two hours. My Motorcycle/ATV floor jack kept sagging. I am just going to use a 2 ton floor jack next time.

      I think there may have been a little bit of play that went away once it was torqued down to spec. I just checked the bike now and there's definitely no free play. I'm loving the shock though!

    Great video.
    I wish I had enough money to buy all these tools and lifts and a house with a garage to do all this myself!!
    Oh well

    Great video! Seems pretty straightforward. Can I ask what camera you are using for the recording? Video quality looks great.

    Thanks for the killer install video.
    I also need a paddock stand. Which one do you use? And are you pleased with the performance even though the shock does not have compression damping adjustment?

    • @eastcoastish
      @eastcoastish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m using a cheap stand from a company called “Pit Posse” but it can flip between spools and swingarm support so it works with all the bikes I have. The shock is a night and day difference for me being pretty lightweight. I think the compression rate is good, it would be interesting to have that adjustment but it’s not something I feel I’m missing.

    Some Öhlins yellow would have definitely not looked as good as the red coil 🤙🏼

    Did i hear you say you're doing a follow up video? That would be interesting. I've ordered one of those shocks with the same spring rate as you as i weigh 70 kg in full riding kit . I look forward to fitting it though its on back order at the moment. Did you carry out any further adjustments and do you notice if the bike steers a bit slower as the rear is now a bit lower?

    • @eastcoastish
      @eastcoastish  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t done a follow up video but the ride is greatly improved. Bike feels much more planted and I have not noticed any differences in steering sensitivity.

    What are specifications that I should look for a rear shock in my XSR 900.
    I ride solo, weight 70 kgs and I drive it only in the street. Thanks In advance

    one question, does ohlins even have one for the xsr900 that has the same specifications for lighter riders? i dont mind the yellow and i am the same weight as you.

      Night and day over the stock shock, the stock was so hard it felt like I had almost no suspension at all. Definitely enjoying the bike more with it.

  • @motorcyclerider3956
    @motorcyclerider3956 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thinking of doing the same to my xsr as I'm of a similar weight. Do you find the front end is ok after changing rear shock or do you find it not so good now because of the improvement at the rear?

    • @eastcoastish
      @eastcoastish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm pretty happy with the entire suspension setup at this point. If I ever start taking this to the track I might consider doing front suspension, but for casual street riding, it's feeling good.

    Is it safe to lift the bike with the support of the exhaust?

  • @gregmatty6393
    @gregmatty6393 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When removing and installing the top shock bolt, did you have any trouble with the bolt spinning as you tried to loosen it or spin as you tried to tighten it? It is a really tight fit on the left side of the bike with regard to getting a socket in that area. The ABS lines run through that region and I don't want to push/pull on them much at all. I may be able to fit a wrench in there but figured I would ask you first. My new K-Tech shock arrives Tuesday and I am trying to do my prep work first. I am mostly worried about where to place the jack and may just try the stock catalytic converter and see what happens. Worst case scenario I crush and can replace it with an Ackropovic or similar setup like you have.

    • @eastcoastish
      @eastcoastish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The nut was actually captured on the left side of the bike - i was never able to see it clearly, but there must be a metal tab that's holding it. When I pulled out the bolt it stayed in place and when I replaced it, I did push a tool from the left side to hold it against the bolt, once I got the first few threads, I was good to go though.
      As far as the jack, I'd just put it under the exhaust. If you have the stock exhaust still, it's even easier since it's flat on the bottom. Just use a piece of wood or something between the jack and the exhaust to level out the load.

    Be honest I would have greased suspension linkage as yamaha aren't the best in that department
    I have the razor R fitted to my tracer night and day different

    • @eastcoastish
      @eastcoastish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since they have bearings instead of bushings though is there really a need to use grease?

      @@eastcoastish sorry I meant bushings and I would have however I'm in the UK so weather is massively changeable I also had an issue with my headstock bearings at around 12.000 miles
