Installing New Purple Martin Gourd Racks

Yesterday was a beautiful day to assemble our new Purple Martin gourd rack. We purchased the Troyer Gemini Combo that has 24 gourds. This system will protect the Martins from predators such as hawks and will also allow us to do nest checks.
Purple Martins are beneficial birds that eat insects 150-500 feet off the ground and even get their water during flight by skimming the surface of ponds. Purple Martins are currently migrating from South America to our region and should be here very soon!
