    I have a 2022 GL and can't believe the new ones still have that water center. That area WILL get wet no matter what you do and start to get mildew in the wood, rust on the metal, etc. I've caulked the crap out of mine and it's improved things, but it's still a really bad design.
    The windshield shade is interesting and I'd consider a retrofit, but it doesn't look like it even goes all the way to the top.
    Things WGO needs to do with the GL:
    * Make everything that can possibly run on DC, run on DC. The air conditioner uses a lot of juice and the conversion losses with the inverter don't help things. While I'm at it, I'd consider a split/ducted system to get that big thing off of the roof and increase clearance.
    * Use much better insulation methods. I've torn apart much of the driver side of mine (bed area, fridge, microwave, cabinet, above desk) to do some wiring and other improvements. The stock insulation is laughable and most of it had fallen/wasn't in place due to the poor adhesive that they use. The thermal loss is very noticeable on hot days and cold nights.
    * Improve the water center. There should be absolutely no wood or metal that can rust in that area. Use marine board or something else.
    * The bed frame/support system is not very good. My frame is cracked at the welds in a few places, and I'm not a heavy person. Also, the slat system isn't sufficient support for a foam mattress. I've put pegboard onto mine to make it more solid. I really wish mine had the old bed system.
    * Improve their build quality/tolerances. While taking mine apart I've seen all kinds of things - exposed wires due to sloppy crimps, screws not put in all the way or at weird angles, screws not biting into anything at all, etc. The microwave area has metal brackets behind the wood for screws to bite into. The top screws don't/can't align with those brackets so they're just going into the wood. The two screws at the bottom of my fridge aren't even biting into anything; they're barely grazing the wood.
    * Ensure their rigs don't leak from the factory. Mine had two leaks from day 1 (bathroom vent and passenger side headliner.) I've troubleshooted and fixed one of the leaks myself after dealers have failed to do so.
    The Travato G has a great layout. I would buy another WGO if they addressed the above, but I don't have faith that they will. If I ever get another camper van it's going to be from an outfitter that puts more care into their products.

    I hate the additional seats. If this is for a solo traveler and only sleeps 2 I don't see needing more than 2 seats. Add additional storage space or maybe before out a way to make that a work area for somebody who might be working while on the road. While some might suggest it's for visiting in a class B I thinking any visiting going to be done outside not inside.
    Do you use that area much for visiting?
    I like the large refrigerator and that it has a drawer freezer.

    The 2 deal breakers for me are 1) small fresh water tank, and 2) occasionally I like to treat myself to a campground with a water supply. There is no outside city water connection.

      It's really easy to add a hose to the water system that can go outside to make it a city water connection. Several of us travato owners have done this mod. As you probably know this feature makes it more of a 4-season coach.

    • @audiesanchez2984

      @@philc.9280 I just know I will not be camping when it’s freezing outside. And if I do it’s kinda crazy that I will have to leave my back door open to while I’m trying to fill my fresh tank as well as flush the blank for however many times I have to do it a week while it’s minus 10 out there.

    • @philc.9280

      @@audiesanchez2984 Like I said with the city water hose modification you don't have to open the back door anymore to fill the tanks. The travato is pretty well insulated and the new Truma hot water/furnace is really quiet and efficient to heat the inside during winter months.

    You and I share the love of a REAL bathroom with a flush toilet and a shower. I'm happy in our KL, with my tall husband, but if I were traveling single, you could probably talk me into a GL. It's our first experience with any kind of RV, and it was definitely the Volta system that attracted me.

    Good review Scott. There are things I love about this floor plan, and things I'm not so fond of. Nothing hugely bad, just personal preference things, like I'd prefer the induction stove wasn't built in.
    You are fast getting me to understand the benefits of the "G" plan. Thanks for doing all the hard work!

  • @vigorousera
    @vigorousera ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I really wanted to like this model, I think the floorplan is smart and I made a point to see it at the Hershey PA show yesterday (9/15/23). But two things end up being big strikes for me.
    First, the dinette seating was shockingly uncomfortable. The seats were bolt upright and the padding was way more rigid than any plane's economy seat I've been on. As a solo traveller, this is where I'd expect to spend a lot of down time (without lying in bed), but if I wanted to kick back in the 59GL I'd probably opt for the front cab seating over the dinette, which kind of defeats the purpose.
    And second -- the bathroom, while agreed is very roomy, had a pretty low ceiling. At 6'0 (with thick-soled shoes on), I had to hunch over quite a bit to get in the bathroom. It's useable, just kind of disappointing, and I know the buyer's remorse would kick every time I saw a taller bathroom.
    Just wanted to raise these two points for anyone else that might have their eye on this model, taller people in particular.

    • @itsme123669
      @itsme123669 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I own a Travato GL and I'm 5'11" tall. Your concerns are valid. I work remotely from the back seats; they're definitely not very comfortable/loungy. Design-wise, this is my biggest complaint of the GL. The only place to kick back and relax is the bed. On the flip side, the seats are incentive for me to get up and walk around more often.
      I have to bend my knees when using the bathroom. Yeah, it sucks, but I barely use the bathroom. I use Planet Fitness, public restrooms, etc. 99% of the time. I've probably showered in mine less than 10 times after 2 years of ownership. The upside to this is that your (smallish) tanks last longer between fills/dumps.

    Thanks for posting this. It’s very telling that after 5 years in a travato, you’d still get another one. Yeah, they don’t have the highest build quality and they did needlessly rearrange the door area, but you’re right, the layout is unique.
    It and the embassy are on my short list because I think they have floor plans I could set up to work in ( I code and use multiple monitors or one really big one). Part of me thinks the embassy would be better because there’s no black tank. So 4 season living would be easier. Since you’ve spent so much time in both, I’d love to hear your thoughts in that regard.
    Thx!

    We picked up a 23 G as my wife and I are on the smaller side so the floorplan worked for us. The K would have been ok too. I purposedly did not pick the Volta system as cool as it is because where we live, we don't often use AC nor the microwave. The few times it gets that hot the quiet inverter generator works great and barely uses much gas. We paid $115K which I heard was an outstanding price during a very slow period at the dealership. I'll eventually replace the AGM's with LiFePO4 batteries and add one more solar panel making it more energy independent. So far we've been pretty happy with the RV.

    I am usually not a commenter but I wanted to say over the last two years of research and deciding what RV/van I wanted, I wanted to say thank you Scott for your very informative videos! I was always looking to see if you had reviewed something I was interested in because I knew you would give me the info I was wanting to know! So thank you, you do a excellent job! As a solo traveler as well (well almost I have my pup) I was looking for many of the same things as you do and the Travato GL was at the top of the the list along with Coachmen Nova 20D but ultimately I went with the RoadTrek Zion because it had the lithium set up I wanted with no generator but at a little better price point then the GL, also I love the macerator so I can stand at my door and dump the nasties lol!! 😉Also love my fridge which is quite big for a van! I have to disagree with you on the colors on the Travato not a big fan of this wood color but I love my willow and white cabinets in my Zion!! 😊I also work from the road and I do wish I had that separate work space like the GL has but I am making it work with my couch in the Zion and using that TV for my second monitor! It truly is all about finding what works for you and deciding what you are willing to sacrifice for some things that are more important to you! Again thank you and keep plugging along and maybe I will run into you one of these days lol!! 😉Except I much prefer the small towns and the woods then the urban jungle! I will be going around the big cities haha!! 😃

    I've been following you for over 2 years now. Went out looking for Travato info after my purchase and came across your channel. Always love your info and travels. I bought a used 2019 low mile 59k. After my first road trip series last year, I looked to trade up for a van with a Volta lithium package as I found the generator was limiting what I needed. I ended up finding (from a video on your channel) a place that could upgrade my van with lithium. It wasn't cheap, but this past years road trip for my work and channel was the most amazing upgrade I could have done. Even my wife agreed it's been the best and she has only been on 2 trips with me. We love being able to turn on the lithium package and allow the air conditioning run for our pups while away from the van, or even us doing stealth urban camping, or off grid camping. The lithium has been a game changer. Your channel really brought it to light for me. I enjoy your channel a lot. Thanks for bringing the info. Loving our Travato really. Love your channel 😊

    Within a few years, I hope to be retired and 80% full time solo. Here are my Libation Live comments . Currently, It is between GL and EKKO. For GL, I like the whole Urban Cowboy and versatility. Pretty much never have to worry about parking. With EKKO, I like the garage (especially for Ebike that I don’t want external storage.), plus more internal room. What will I do with it?. Everything and all of the above, so I lean EKKO. Jayco just came out with copycat Granite Ridge, which has a Lounge like #1 @thefitrv . Big plus. But it should have, in my view, differentiated itself with black tank instead of Cassette. As for GL floor plan, it is time for Grech, Pleasure way and Coachmen to explore. We need competition. As for Embassy, as impressive as they are, I’m not going compost or diaper genie; plus I want to open windows. Thanks Scott. I agree with you. I can’t understand why your channel does not have more subscribers, while other RV channels have too much rah-rah, blah-blah and whah-whah.

    Great job on the tour...seems you've made your peace with the bathroom height. Was hoping they would do something about that. Just wondering if one small, folding e-bike could fit under the bed with it down? One might work on the rack outside but rather not temp thieves while in urban areas.

    Does a 59G floor plan allow the driver seat to slide back more than the 59K? We rented a 2018 59K & I found the driving position to be cramped for my legs. We are planning on renting a 59G in the spring to try that layout. It has the older dinette area like yours which looks like a better layout.

      A new bare van cost 57 to 67 thousand dollars. Then add 600 amp hrs of lithium batteries, a second alternator, charger controller, pure sine inverter, fuse and breaker boxes, wiring harness, floor, ceiling and roof insulation, floor ceiling and roof panels, lighting and switches, heating system, fresh water tank, gray water tank, black tank, hush mat walls, cabinets, beds, table cabinets, sink toilet, water pump , install water file and dump station plumbing, AC, have fun getting under 100k on your DIY. But if you want to put a couple of camp cots in and empty van with a bucket to poop in. Then you can get under 100K.

      A bigger bathroom would be brilliant in my space, its just about manageable now, but van is only 6m / 19.7ft. Personally i love the style of your murphy bed, rather than the newer style, and of course the lagun table mounts and thinner table. I have a Burstner City Car, transverse bed, nice living area, and recently fitted lithium ❤

    Thanks for another very descriptive and real life and use video.
    Tell me though, didn't Winnebago miss the boat (a bit) by not allowing use of the Nautalis from the outside. The back door must be open to fill water and once closed, the owner has to listen to the water pump when using the van. Is the water pump in this unit "whisper quiet?"
    I hear every reviewer drive by this choice by Winnebago as a "four season feature" when in fact for 3 seasons of the year (even here in Canada) if used a lot this definitely would be an annoyance at a minimum.
    Your thoughts from actually using it?
    Thanks and keep up the good videos

    For $200,000 (or relatively close to it) I would go with a 2024 Leisure Travel Van. $190,000. Especially if you are planning to live it it for a length of time. Comfort and space is everything. And you get that with Leisure. This Winnebago just seemed so cramped and uncomfortable. I could see if it were $100,000 less the Leisure, but it’s not. If you want something comparable to the Leisure but $100,000 less is the 2024 BT Cruiser. You get lots of comfort and living space compared to this Winnebago. I have to say Winnebago is seriously disappointing in the design and functionality area. Quite surprisingly as they have paved the way a leading company in the industry for decades. Really falling short nowadays. I’m sorry to say, but it is true and must be said.

    • @itsme123669
      @itsme123669 ปีที่แล้ว

      The BT Cruiser looks to be quite a bit larger than a Promaster/Travato and it "looks like an RV." I can stealth camp in lots of places in my Travato, and I've stayed in some campgrounds and driven some roads which don't allow vehicles over certain length/widths. The maneuverability, gas mileage, and parking options are excellent on Promasters.

    How is it that for solo vanlife, there are 4 seats? You are going to dedicate so many cubic feet of interior space for something that you profess you will not use. It is solo. Let the guests sit on the floor.
