    Bob & Hillary, Thank you so much for taking the time to video review our newest pride and joy, "Critter the Campground Kryptonite". A perfect scrappy cross between a racoon, armadillo and oposum. He can get out further and stay longer than your lesser equipted critters. This is our 6th RV in about 10 years. Two Class A's, one Class C, one Class B, and a towable before this. For us, we finally hit the sweet spot, considering our specific needs. This video of yours was so much fun for us to watch. I'm sure most people don't know you spent almost 3 hours shotting and something like 30+ hours editing just one video like this. My videos take the exact amount of minutes to shoot as you see in the finished product, and I have never spent even 1 minute editing. Partly because I don't know how, and partly because you just took away any incentive I might have had to learn. I'm going to go back and watch this again now. Thank you, and we hope to see you again soon. Rick & Sherri.

      Awww thanks again Rick and Sherri! You both were the best! We had fun getting to know you! Thanks for sharing your journey. You guys are the real pros when it comes to RVs! Your videos are good too! And I just learned that little storage under the dinette was built by Sherri 🤯 So awesome! Thanks again for sharing Critter with us!

      It is kind of nice but it could be better. For example I would love for bathroom and toilet join together and then the walkway in left or right side so they dont eat too much space and ofc became much bigger for bathroom👍

      Great RV. In a rig this small and nimble there are always sacrifices. Only questions are there any issues with exhausting steam from the shower since the fan is in the water closet or does the fan in the dining area take care of that? Also do you use the over dinette storage for wardrobe or are you keeping your clothes somewhere else like below the bed or in the bathroom?

    Great tour! We bought this same RV in August 2022 (2023 model). Over 20k miles of travel in all seasons. Absolutely our favorite RV we have owned. No regrets. The extra room in the B+ is well worth and is not that much larger than the B’s. We cruise with our 100lb lab as well. Garage works perfect for dog house. Thanks for sharing.

    First thing I noticed was the bull artwork. My wife did a very similar style but with an elephant. I had never seen anyone else with a similar style piece of art. 👍.
    My wife and I watch quite a few different reviews and this as a lifestyle. It was always our plan for RV Life until health issues took us down a different road unfortunately and finances had to go elsewhere. We can still live vicariously through everyone else’s stories. We love them all.

    • @ricktanner9817
      @ricktanner9817 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Very sorry to hear of the unexpected change of plans. The art was actually purchased on Amazon a couple of months ago. I wanted a fighting bull to represent the bull market. This is basically our retirement plan. Should we hit a major bear market our plans may change as well.

    I'm not a huge factory-made RV guy, but this Cross Trail is very tempting and this is the best video showcasing it. Not too big, lots of features, great floorplan, a chassis I trust and that can be serviced in any town, and capable of off-grid for a decent amount of time. The owners have also kitted it out perfectly. Like the added solar, the additional TV, and the way they set up the garage.

    Great rig and I love everything about it with one exception.....the configuration of the bed. Having to crawl over each other to get up in the middle of the night to use the rest room is a deal breaker for us. Now if they can come up with a twin bed version of this, I'd be seriously thinking about it. Great video, great tour of a great RV. See ya next week!

      I cannot lie, the climbing over to get out at night is tricky. This coach does come in three different models. This one, a twin bunkbed and a sort of murfy bed which is the 21xg.

    • @Vancaskeys

    The crosstrek and crosstrail have been out for a while and was my first choice. It was parking space on the side of my home was the deciding factor as space was limited. We ended up getting a 23 winnebago travato 59k instead that fits perfectly. We really do love the b+ models though

    The coach building industry has trained us to belive that 136 thousand dollars is a bargain. That's the real genius here. I have two buddies who own class B+ size and both of them have constant and major leaking issues and thinks like a fridges not working cheap boarding used. If you don't want it to leak stick to class b vans.

      Bob was a little right and a little wrong on the bull/brush guard. It is aftermarket where Ford is concerned but installed by Coachmen. One of the many things they got very right on this rig. The LED light bar is amazing when on. Much brighter than you would think for the size.

    • @Vancaskeys
      @Vancaskeys  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks! All your points are valid. We love our B Van but the B+ (small Cs) really have been calling our name lately. It would depend on if you’re looking to live full time or just travel part time. And the prices are getting pretty outrageous for the Class Bs. Ugh. So hard to know what the right decision is.

  • @johnthomson5730
    @johnthomson5730 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    This model was high on our list for going with a class B+, especially with the 2024 upgrades including the 12-volt fridgerator (LOL), induction cook top and convection microwave as well as the renogy battery system. The major issues for us were the east/west configuration of the bed and that it is not a true 4-season rv. We wound up going with the Winnebago Ekko, and of course, we paid a bunch more, but we prefered the twin bed set-up, smaller size, the thicker side walls w/ fiberglass roof, and the 4-season capability. So it all comes down to what y'all want and willing to trade-off. But real issue here is - WHEN IS MR. LEMON GOING TO GO!!

      Not to mention reservations, check out times, barking dogs, campfire smoke, loud music, loud neighbors, upsidedown pineapples and the ever increasing cost. The ability to stop when you feel like it and leave when you feel like it is worth the loss of unlimited power and water.

    Recently found you two. I love your reviews. We purchased our first camper, Coachman Freedom Express back in 2018. We love it though it's time to upgrade to a drivable that will tow our boat. I really like this one. Not so sure about the shower. Would be a bonus to have a bed over the cab and a small slide in the dinnette area. Other than that, I really love this RV. She did an amazing job with the organization. What a pro! Love how the bed can move up and down to allow access to the underbed storage. Great video. I would definately consider another Coachman. We are looking forward to warmer weather so we can really run the the AC. It is situated just a little forward of center but you can direct the airflow with 4 vents. The ceiling fans should keep the air cerculating as well.
      A big selling factor for us was the ability to run the AC off the house batteries. It will be interesting to see what kind of draw it has compaired to the stovetop or microwave for example.

    There is only one thing that would push this rig over the top. If it were built on the new Transit Trail Ford up-fitted chassis with 3.5 lift, wider stance and a whole lot more goodies.

    Can't beat the price for sure. Personally, I prefer the a class B built within a van body for long term use, but this does have some nice features. Also, I question whether the curtains separating the cab insulate as well as the insulated interior window covers that are typical. We are about to go ski camping in our van at 7200' and temps as low as 9F, so we will find out how well insulated ours is real soon!

    • @ricktanner9817
      @ricktanner9817 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great observation. We actually carry 3 blackout systems. The first came with the RV and is a large one piece cover that wraps around the outside and covers all cab windows. This is great if you are expecting snow. Take it off and you are left with a clean windshield and side windows. The second is custom fitted and insulated single window covers that go on the inside. This is good for cold weather as it also provides insulation. The third is what we use most of the time in mild weather. The blackout curtain that takes about 2 seconds to close or open.

    Racing Shocks?!? That is funny in a class B+. Love this RV on the Ford Transit chassis...very well done. The only issue I have with it compared to your class B is the storage issue. You are able to park your Thor in your driveway and this type of RV eliminates that possibility, you have to pay for storage unless you have an alternate place that does not involve the typical HOA Association, Jus' sayn'

    There are European companies like Giotti selling B+ campers similar to these for about half the price. On the same Ford chassis as well. I believe the only creature comforts they are missing is a roof A/C and maybe an on board generator. Both can be remedied for under 10k

    I've been watching this one- a clear EKKO clone. The raised bed/garage is fantastic- and the windows in there! The dinette is nicely spacious too. I LOVE induction cooktop. I like it better than EKKO except....
    ... it's a 3 season coach not meant for cold weather where EKKO is 4 season. Notice the batteries and water are external
    Best part is that it's not a Thor! At that price I might consider trading in my Thor Tellaro.

    Nice looking rig but here are a few reasons why it wouldn't work for me: 1) I do not like the outside storage/garage to be part of my inside living area, especially my bed. I can see wind bringing sand, rain and all kinds of stuff inside when I open the garage. 2) I prepare all my meals, and would have to split the few cabinets it has over the dinette between my clothes and food storage. 3) The sink is too small and shallow to be practical when you cook all your meals. 4) I boondock and like to bring plenty of food and so it would not work with having such a small freezer. 5) I wonder if the a/c would be sufficient to reach the bed area because I can't be hot when sleeping. So, if I had to chose a similar rig, the Ekko would be my choice, especially the new one on the MB chassis.

    • @ricktanner9817
      @ricktanner9817 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That's the great thing about people and RV's. The come in all kinds of shape and sizes. One size never fits all quite right. Regarding the outside (inside) storage. The nice thing with this set up is you don't have to go outside in bad weather to access your storage. We have never had the wind blow anything in "the garage". We also prepare all our meals and as great as I believe the video is, Bob & Hillary did miss the floor to ceiling pantry and didn't really show how big the wardrobe closet is in the bathroom. The sink is way too small! The good news is we found the perfect replacement at Lowes and will be installing it this week. What was Coachmen thinking? The freezer is also small and the option there would be to add a second unit in the garage space. I have seen that done in a couple of videos. We wonder the same thing about the AC but it hasn't warmed up enough to use it. The little ceiling fan we added is great and cost $16 on Amazon.

      So far we couldn't be happier with the build quality by Coachmen. As we are not new to the RV game, we expected issues along the way but so far, almost none. In 2022 we bought a new Thor Sequence. The day I picked it up from the dealer the plumbing leaked water all over the interior. That wasn't even the worst day. Getting help from either the dealer or Thor was like pulling healthy teeth.
      We did do a video on all the MOD's we preformed on Critter so far. On power, the only thing we did was add 2 more (200 watt) panels to the roof for a cost of $400. It came with everything else.

    I didn't hear MPG in the specs. Our first RV was something similar to that. It was an 18 y.o used beast. It was called a Brougham, a transvan (rear door) 1980-ish Dodge chassis. I absolutely loved the interior. So spacious, great floorplan, really comfortable. Primitive by today's standards but I loved it. We didn't think to ask about the MPG. We drove it from SF to Death Valley on its maiden voyage, we monitored the gas consumption, and I was horrified to discover that it got 8 (EIGHT!) MPG! We did a few local trips, but we never took a long trip again! It did serve me well when Jerry was in the hospital 6 counties from home for a long time, and I lived in it in the hospital parking lot with the kitty cat. But that was it. The mileage absolutely horrified me! Everything is more fuel efficient now, but I'm betting that doesn't get any better than 12 or so?
    I love the look of it, I love the storage, I don't love the sideways bed for two people. Some people sleep soundly all through the night, but that's not us. Invariably one or the other of us is up for something - toilet, snack - in the middle of the night.
    But nicely appointed all the way around top, bottom inside out!

      @ricktanner9817 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Loved the story about your rig and travels. I am currently averaging 15 MPG HWY. keep in mind the engine is new and that should improve as it breaks in. Also consider it is full time all-wheel drive, daulies on the back, 2" lifted suspention, all terrain tires and dual alternators (one feeds the house batteries while you drive). All of these features impact the MPG. I find the sewwt spot for MPG to be about 55 MPH and I wish it were a little higher. This rig was built with snow & ice as well as mud and rut in mind, but it also drives nice in the highway.

    • @TrishBenedict

      @@ricktanner9817 OK, well they have considerably improved! About 10 years ago I called a dealer about a similar layout in a more modern Born Free Built for Two and he said that the mileage wasn't much better than what we'd gotten in the Brougham. But your mileage isn't much less than the 17-18 mpg we got in our much smaller Travato (now we have a teeny 17' Solis Pocket. If we're very careful, we can get just a bit over 20. (I agree that 55 makes much more sense - I just wish I could convince my husband, Mr. Leadfoot!)

      We have owned both and traveled extensively in both. No issues with either regarding parking and driving comfort. I would say the Ford Transit is far more comfortable to drive than the Dodge Promaster for me. The Coachmen B+ is 24' long but I really don't find it any more challenging than the B Class we had before. The big difference is the interior space. I actually knew one owner who had 2 dogs and made the "garage" below the bed a high end kennel for his little traveling buddies.

House built inside the walls of a van = Class B. Hybrid, original cab (truck or van) with house built behind = Class C. At least that's the way it started years ago. Now, every dealer, manufacturer and user has their own name for it. IMHO

It literally wasn't on the dealer lot for 8 hours before we took possession. We officially purchased it just as it was being completed by Coachmen a week or so prior to arriving. Per the window sticker the MSRP for this unit as is was $192,000. The dealer in Texas, MHSRV will typically discount 25% off the sticker for every unity they get in and they keep about 650 to 700 units on the lot at all times. I am sure there are many factors that will go into their decisions to provide further discounts but they did not share those with me. We felt we were getting a good price but now we are thinking it was a great price?
