I'd rather have ex-drivers for the commentating even for F1, get rid of the people who know nothing about racing, it's not like we don't have much to choose from. I use to enjoy Brundle and Coulthard duo. As far as non-race commentators go, no one can match Walker.

I don't like that they made this like reality tv with the dramatic pauses, showing the women being emotional, and that bachelor type selection process. The racing was pretty good though, glad the series was created.
If they ditch all that reality show crap and make it a proper motorsports TV program, the series would gain more credibility. Even though it’s nice to see this series, it won’t last 1 or 2 seasons.

It's all about getting laps in good equipment. Females traditionally do not get equal opportunities to get in the laps they need in competition. As far as the "reality TV" accusation. They didn't create the selection process for TV. They chose to show it. It would have likely bee n the same whether or not they showed it. Any racing series thrives on a driver to fan connection. So it's like any other series making their drivers household names.

I am liking this but I think it would be amazing if W Series officials would consider having more distinct car colours to help distinguish the drivers, so we can more easily follow our favourite drivers
Get rid of the unnecessary dramatization, get rid of the ad breaks, get rid of the announcer, get rid of the commentator (the one that is not David Coulthard) and you might have something very interesting on your hands here. Sadly the way this is presented kind of takes a lot of enjoyment out of it, since the racing was actually pretty decent - something you'd expect from a lower tier formula series. If an only women racing series is something that's needed is not something I have a clear opinion about, but since this exists I want it to succeed - sadly, with the way this is presented (as a reality show instead of what it is, a motorsports series) I don't really see a big future in this. And I'd love to see (more) women making it in the big motorsports leagues.
I see what you're saying but the only thing I liked about the reality series thing at the beginning was that they had compete against other women in racing related competitions to enter the sport and not just making business, money & sponsorship related deals to enter the sport. It kinda showed that they had some skill that earned them the spots.
Two things, one, the racing was great, loved it, but second, there are no rules in top categories that say "women don''t get to drive", it doesn't matter your gender, if you're not fast enough, you're not fast enough, so cut the crap. Also, why are all cars using just 4 colors? Half the field is yellow, most cars have purple wings, some cars are purple with yellow wings... you get the idea... Use more colors! Talk a little bit more about the cars? We can see they're spec, but what's the engine? is it a diesel? an inline? v6 hybrids? Make the series not only about the drivers, but also about the cars, and the teams behind them! And show us the lap times, not only the separation! That's what motorsport is about, get that right, and the drivers will shine even more.
You put it so so well. This is a bit of why people like to criticize a lot of female-lead sports or media more often than ones that aren't exclusive to one gender. They either focus so much on the sport being centered around female drivers, or they tend to ignore the things that people love F1 for. Not that they're doing a shit job here, just wish they focused more on the racing culture itself like the lads over on F1.
The way i see it, if we want to go on saying "these drivers are athletes" and act like it matters, then it makes sense to have a women's series like any other sport, based on the inherent physical differences between the sexes. I have no problem with this at all. If a woman if fast enough to hang with the men, then great, she can race in the top series, F1. Meanwhile we have a series where women can get some seat time - plus more racing is always nice.
All I can say is that I sincerely hope EVERY single one of the women eliminated was slower than the back markers. Seems kinda like a reality TV show, no need to dramatize it any further. Let the racing and drivers speak for the series. There's clearly talent, stop the reality TV drama BS please.
tbf the backmarkers were almost all within 30 seconds in total race time, so within a second a lap , only two weren't and we seen that Piria had a spin which set her back, I think her pace was fine otherwise, Holbrook (and some others as well I think) may have had incidents off camera, which lost them time but didn't necessarily mean they were off the pace
Koyama did it great finishing in 7th. It would be more interesting if the cars had different liveries for each drivers. But wait, is it a sport or a reality TV show?
All the reality TV faff had the effect of taking something that should have been empowering and making it seem slightly condescending. ... maybe with all of that distraction out of the way they can concentrate on what looks like it may turn into some pretty decent racing.

Quality racing; really good moves by Marta García, i think that she did a great race here. Hope that this year the W Series offers much more of this and that keeps growning in races, technology and spectators.
Hi, female motorsport fan here. I really like it so far! I just wish it wasn't presented as a reality TV show or whatever they're trying to do here. I think this will help spark interest in motorsport among girls!

It's a bit of a forward and odd backward step at the same time. Higher profile for these drivers but they will all be shown at their best racing against all drivers, not just other women and thankfully this has happened for at least some of them. Agree that the reaction after being taken out was quite heartening. I guess to some extent, F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle, so the utmost precision is potentially expected from all who are involved and drivers forget that mistakes or silly errors happen.
everyone complaining about how it’s dramaticized and overdone - this is exactly what we’re trying to avoid. If they had done all this with f1 races then no one would complain - this is similar to drive to survive which everyone loved. Stop finding things to criticize and just celebrate this momentous occasion

Gilkes was the youngest competitor and won a race. It might have been the reverse grid race by 0.003 seconds, but a win is still a win. It is still an achievement.
Watching these while waiting for the 2022 season full races to be posted 😊 and while hoping to be able to watch the races on F1 TV---or any single online platform (i.e. non country-specifc)---in the future 🤞 The Reality TV bit and the hyper-dramatic commentary was a bit much. Difference is cars dont have restrictions due to sex. So if women have the heart and skill with same car same excitement, where as no woman can play like a top footballer or le bron james etc

On average they will weigh less than men, which is a big advantage. Not to mention marketability and sponsorships, which women tend to have an advantage as well. The existence of this series implies that female drivers can't be as fast as men, so they need to compete amongst themselves.

@@josewmeldondo yes. DTS does a similar thing but it's not the official formula 1 television. Races are broadcast like proper matches in other sports. DTS is just an end-year review with a lot of sensationalism. It's not official.

Impossible to watch with a commercial every 5 seconds. Put them at the beginning end and middle but not every 5 bloody seconds.

Difference is cars dont have restrictions due to sex. So if women have the heart and skill with same car same excitement, where as no woman can play like a top footballer or le bron james etc
@@arturoperez352 Yes, which is why it's even worse - there's no physical reason with modern cars why women should be slower than men. On average they will weigh less than men, which is a big advantage. Not to mention marketability and sponsorships, which women tend to have an advantage as well. The existence of this series implies that female drivers can't be as fast as men, so they need to compete amongst themselves.
@@100-s9l Exactly, all this does is further exacerbate the problem. Women were never prohibited from motorsports. There have been female F1 drivers in the past.

W Series Race 1 will only be an attractive category, if I had the participation of big brands like Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and others. Women can use faster and differently designed cars like F1 cars.
