    Im still skeptical about using prebiotics. I've heard a lot of Natural health doctors advise against taking prebiotics with probiotics. If you already have a gut overgrowth, won't the prebiotics make it worse?

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It depends. Prebiotics are generally trickier for people with SIBO and similar conditions - in addition to the concern you bring up, prebiotic fiber sources, for example, might flare IBS/IBD/etc. Probiotics, on the other hand, are generally pretty safe and might even help reduce overgrowth.

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Reimara! While it may be possible for pre and probiotics to contribute to overgrowth, it’s generally unlikely and, more often, the opposite. Probiotics in particular can actually help make SIBO treatment more effective by crowding out bad bacteria (and in some cases destroying them), and helping you recolonize with the good guys. It all depends on the individual - what works for some won’t work for others - but definitely worth a try if you haven’t yet

      Hi there! I understand your concern. It’s a very common ingredient in elemental diet formulas, however - in order to work as intended, they need to be extremely digestible. You’ll find ingredients like maltodextrin and dextrose in most commercially available therapeutic formulas. It’s helpful to think of an elemental diet as containing the “elements” of food, broken down to help digestive issues like malabsorption - hence using amino acids vs complete proteins too. Hope this is helpful and allays some concern
