      No metric has Emery done better this season than Arteta? Top of the League table, best defense and most goals scored. @@PvtVallen based on expectations? This is Arteta’s first job managing. Emery has not only managed over 10 years but multiple jobs has managed in many different countries. Also it’s a lot harder to manage a big club than to manage villa. It’s a lot harder to juggle champions league and EPL title race. The pressure alone arteta has from a top club. In a top 4 race you can draw or lose a game and still be on course. Arteta has won last 16 lose 1 draw 1 and still may not win the league. Different pressure. Emery seem to always fumble when he is managing a big club. Was terrible managing PSG…. Could not handle that pressure.

      Yeah, if Newcastle get top 6 that’s very very impressive given the difficulties with injuries and the extra games. At the beginning of the season lots of pundits said they expected 6th at best, to do that with a horrendous set of injuries and the Tonali ban shows how good Howe is as a manager, it’s crazy that some Newcastle fans (a very small group though) are unhappy.
      If the board back him in the summer and the injuries are more normal next season I’d be very surprised if Newcastle don’t get top 4 again.

      Newcastles & some other clubs injuries have been well documented in the media,but as a Villa fan I believe our problems with injured players have hardly been mentioned cos Unai Emery never complains about it or uses it as an excuse when results have gone against us, he's just got on with it & given other squad players a chance to prove their worth. Considering we've had key players out all or for big parts of this season the job he has done has been incredible,what a manager he is. 😊⚽👍

      @@amlmorris. Every team loses players to injuries but why would a manager use injuries as an excuse when his team has statistically had a below average level of injuries? Newcastle have had over 60% more injuries than Villa. Put that into perspective, for every 10 injuries Villa have had this season Newcastle have had 16-17.
      I get your point about missing key players but some teams have had it bad in both ways.

      @Aeway100 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@andrewcharlton6080 compare that against Man Utd, they've had around 60 injuries throughout the season, including key players like Lisandro or Luke Shaw, yet people take it as a no excuse for them... in the past games the only natural center back has been Maguire, and only Eddie Howe gets empathy. There's an extremely positive bias towards Newcastle, very good team, very good manager, but it's ridiculous how much people hate ETH for the sake of being Man Utd's manager.

    • @andrewcharlton6080
      @andrewcharlton6080 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      @@Aeway100 Eddie Howe has been slated at times this season by some fans and the media, really unfairly given the injuries. There was a run of about 6-8 weeks where we only had 12-13 senior players and he was still getting criticised for poor performances.
      I agree that Man Utd has had nearly as many injuries as Newcastle this season, Newcastle have still played some decent football at times, the reason Newcastle aren’t higher is due to that really awful run of 8 losses in 10 games, that was during that crazy injury run and the players were exhausted with games every 3-4 days.
      Newcastle had a group of death in Europe and would have come second if not for that awful injury time penalty decision against PSG.
      In comparison Man Utd have chugged along for most of the season and haven’t really had some of the performances Newcastle have had, they were awful in Europe too in a much weaker group. They’ve had a similar defence but scored far fewer goals and have a poor goal difference. There’s been some disappointing performances for Newcastle but some really good ones too which has helped keep the fans and pundits onside.
      I think you also need to consider where the 2 teams have come from in the last few years, when Howe took over Newcastle we’re favourites for relegation, we have a small squad which can’t cope with Europe or these injuries yet, half of the current squad were from the Bruce era and were generally considered to be Championship level players a few seasons again.
      Man Utd have been a European side for decades, ETH has spent as much as Howe and inherited a much better team than Howe did but the squad is arguably worse than it was 3-4 seasons ago, there’s been big money signings like Anthony, Mount and Casemiro that haven’t been good while other players have fallen out with the manager.
      As a Newcastle fan I can see that the players all enjoy being at the club, they like Howe, Howe for the most part has got the team playing good football and if it wasn’t for a bad spell due to severe injuries we’d be fighting for top 4. The club is still moving in the right direction.
      A lot of the same can’t be said for Man Utd this season even taking into account the injuries

    I think Glasner deserves more credit than you’re giving him. I understand the comparison to Roy coming in at the end of last season and Palace finishing strong, but the victories Palace have had under Glasner are way more impressive. When Roy came back last year, 3 of the 5 wins were against the relegated teams (Leicester, Leeds, Southampton) with the other wins against West Ham and Bournemouth.
    This year recently under Glasner, Palace have gone 6 games in a row unbeaten with wins against Liverpool at Anfield, Newcastle, and Man United. They’ve also had convincing wins against Burnley, West Ham, and Wolves. The team under Glasner just passes the eye test too, the tactics are good and the attacks are well set up.
    There was some difficulty adjusting when Glasner first came in though, with some draws and losses to mediocre teams, but now that his tactics and play style have been fully implemented, Glasner has got Palace playing in great form.

    So glad you respect Thomas Frank. And I'm glad you did the research. Basically, our best back four have maybe played 40 games COMBINED this year. And we have a new keeper. So building that chemistry between the back line and keeper I extremely hard if players are constantly going down with injuries. And with our finances our depth is extremely shallow and we've had to start players who were meant to develop this year; and we've shifted players around, starting a cdm and a winger as fullbacks at times. He's basically had to squeeze every last ounce out of our players and for us to not get relegated this year is amazing. And that's not even considering our top three scorers all being out for considerable time. I love Thomas Frank and hope we keep him forever, honestly.

    I would put Klopp in manager of the year candidate. Liverpool started the season with a brand new midfield. Then they lost one of their midfielders to the Asian Cup and their talisman to the AFCON, who got injured during this time. At one stage during February and March, they had 11 players out, won the League Cup with their youth team, while maintaining a push for the title while still playing the youth team. At the start of the season, most people had them to be getting top 4, but not challenging for the title. Liverpool under Klopp have made it the most exciting Premier League title race in history. By March, they were still in the hunt for the quadruple and yes it has fallen off and they won't win the title now, but he's got to be in the talk for Manager of the Season.

      Also Klopp has had to deal with the PGMOL throwing out SEVERAL "once in a lifetime" screw ups. Liverpool should have a stack of referee apology letters, but they unapologetically do not like him specifically. The team is dead tired now because they had to play multiple games early in the season a man down for the softest red cards of the whole season. You forget Klopp pulled out most of those, and then only lost to totty after one of the worst decisions of the decade for Diaz offside and an unlucky own goal. They won against Newcastle 2 men down, that takes a lot out of a team, and the prem doesn't have a winter break. Klopp rebuilt a midfield, and doesn't have the budget to have enough world class players to deal with those kinds of stressors. If the Doku penalty was given as it ABSOLUTLY should have, Klopp would be manager of the season hands down.

Then again, would any of us be surprised if some desperate club called on his services ONE LAST TIME sometime in the near future? Also agree with respect towards Eddie Howe. Not to be or sound like a Poch apologist or anything, but this Chelsea team has been completely obliterated by injuries. Captain and Vice-Captain out most of the year. Fofana, Lavia, Nkunku have barely featured (0 and 1 appearance for the two former). First keeper been out half the season at this point (not at all a big point as I am, not entirely convinced by either, but I prefer Petrovic, worth mentioning anyways). Gusto, Chalobah, Badiashile, Colwill, Cucurella, Chukwuemeza all with significant time lost to injury. The midfield trio of Enzo, Gallagher and Caicedo have been forced to play more or less every minute as there are no other senior options and now even Enzo is out with an operation. No manager would be able to deal with the chaos, injuries and incompetence in and around the club so judging Poch on this is very difficult. I am not convinced by him, but I dont think sacking him will solve much except maybe help with injuries as his training intensity/requirements might be a contributing factor, but we have struggled with overbearing injuries under Potter and Tuchel as well.

Give EtH Liverpool and theyll become champs within the next 2 years I honestly believe. ManU has just been a shitpile for managers for years. Man Utd have conceded the most shots in the entire PL and they're currently on course for top 3 in PL history. Look at the Expected Points league table and Man Utd are 15th. His tactics simply don't work and he's refusing to change them. I genuinely poor tactically and a bad man manager (see Sancho for example) who wouldn't get into any top half job and would probably struggle to find a mid table PL job now.

Palace have had Ward and Clyne at cb for half the season, losing guehi, eze and olise for months each as well as losing doucoure for the entire season, even depth players were injured and yet are 5 points above Brentford. SIXTEENTH!!! the system relies too heavily on having great players in every position, and it doesn't even try to cover up anyone's weaknesses either. injuries are becoming a weak excuse when nothing has changed all season. he's making (one of) the best ball playing keepers boot the ball long every game to a striker who isn't a target forward and a midfield full of players who struggle to and are poorly positioned to counter press. so fed up of it

Iraola very much an unkown quantity with two different halves of the season. Next season it will be better to judge. I'd nudge O'Neil down to good, but is he good. He's had a full squad available all season so I would say Wolves are exactly where they should be. I'd also nudge Ange down to good, but is he good. Proceeded to take this team which people were even doubting that he'd reach UCL spots with, and challenged for the title, and was in fact on top of the table for a while until injuries and refereeing errors combined with fatigue due to squad size ultimately cost him. Being associated with a season this historically terrible is the kind of thing that at this stage of his career, even Championship clubs will be hesitant to give him a call. Billy Davies is the example I think of here. Got Derby promoted, next season, sacked during the worst Premier League season points-wise in history. He wouldn't get another job for 4 years, and has not managed since 2014. By 2030, I see Wilder done with management altogether.
