Tyrique Mitchell being top of interceptions list and being a fit LB playing in a solid defense yet NOT being in the squad is mad!
I was thinking the same but people think you crazy when you say this
I cannot get mu head around this. Any regular English prem left back should get in ahead of a non-specialist
@@yabetterwatchout Completely agree
I agree. We have a shortage of good full backs. We should have picked Mitchell, especially with Ben White not going
Yes! Either Mitchell or Chilwell HAVE to go. They're solid. Gomez is too inconsistent to put him as a left back if Shaw is injured
Southgate is a risk averse thinker.
He'd play Gomez at left back before he'd play Trent.
Tbh he would probably still play Maguire 10 years after he retires.
Gomez is a good LB though
@@eX1st4132 yeah if you've seen a Liverpool game he's been really solid defensively and can push forward and swing a ball or two in
And, ironically, incurring more risk in doing so
Gomez would make more sense than Trent seen as Gomez has played quite a bit of left back for Liverpool I think Gomez and Trent would be a great fullback partnership for England but no way southgate does it
Quansah scored winner in semi final of U19 World Cup and laid on the winner in the Final. He always looks forward, he's huge and players bounce off him. Happy for him to stay at home, though. He doesn't need England and Southgate in his head. At the end of next season, barring injury, he'll be elite.
It's very simple:
GK - Pickford
LB - Shaw
RB - Walker
CB - Stones
CB - Branthwaite
DM - Rice
Box to Box - Bellingham
CAM - Palmer
LW - Foden
RW - Saka
ST - Kane
Forget Maguire, you give Branthwaite a chance, with one eye on the future. You play Shaw in the group matches so he gets his match fitness up to speed. You bring Trippier in to LB if need be. Rice ABSOLUTELY can play DM and do that defensive duty. He's proven it at Arsenal, with Havertz and Odegaard (both attacking players) playing next to him. You play Foden LW and Palmer as the CAM, but you instruct both to switch positions throughout the game, so Foden can drift into the centre where he is more dangerous and effective.
Bellingham can play the Box to Box role, and he can put his foot in and win the ball just as well as he can go forward. You DO NOT play Bellingham CAM, otherwise you lose out on Palmer and Foden.
You DEFINITELY take Eze, as an impact off the bench, as he opens things up, like no other player England have. (I'm slightly bias, as a QPR fan, but I've seen first hand how he makes things happen. He's ridiculously good)
That team and setup, CHALLENGES for trophies. But Safegate won't do that. He will play Maguire, feel the need to protect him by playing 3 in midfiled, and he will leave Foden out on LW or bring him on, off the bench.
Attack is the best form of defence. Yes, our defence is our weakness. Therefore, PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTH, which is our attacking prowess.
Alas, it will be 3 in midfield and we will go out in the Quarters because Safegate has no backbone.
Would say Bellingham or Mainoo as box to box. At 19 years old Mainoo scary as he like a 26 year old in his prime already.
Grealish over Eze is crazy. LW options should be Foden and Gordon with Eze covering if required
City fan but I completely agree here.
I don't get this about Foden on the left business, you miss out on his crucial abilities by sticking him over there. He needs to be right wing or 10.
@@SirMonkeySuit Rice Bellingham Foden gets overrun by any decent team, also limits Bellinghams ability just to fit in Gordon
@@nameanteater4772 our latest international games had Bellingham and Gordon look the best link up, considering that was their first ever time on a pitch together, I'd argue it won't limit Bellingham's ability.
Foden has to play Right wing or 10 otherwise you can forget about seeing what he does for City.
@@SirMonkeySuit if you play foden in the 10 then you’re dropping Jude, if you play him on the right then you’re dropping Saka. You can’t play both Jude & foden in the 10 together, we would be far too open against the top teams, especially seen as though the weakest part of our team is the defence. Just because foden starts on the left, it doesn’t mean he just sticks out there, he will drift inwards in game.
I think Quansah might surprise Southgate, especially ball playing wise, obviously doesn’t have the experience of the guehi or konsa but I don’t think he’s that far off them defensively
Don’t think Grealish deserves to be going
Who doesn't think? Why do you elide the sentence's subject?
@@bazingacurta2567…probably has a mate called Don’t, and meant to say “thinks”?
@bazingacurta2567 why bother making that comnent
There should be no grealish
They need a P head in the squad to keep the English fans happy.
It's definitely not for his football skills..
Jarell Quansah played 33 games this season mostly with Van Dijk, and at times kept Konate out of the team who will be starting for France!
Only made two errors all season, when some make two errors per game! 🤐
Very high ceiling in my opinion and is comfortable going forward with the ball and making progressive passes 👌🏾
Not against taking Wharton at all, but Curtis Jones literally won the u21 euros in a double pivot with angel gomes
When?
@@mitty4296 ...8 July 2023? is this a fact check? You couldn't google this?
wharton would have also won it had he been there, and in the actual senior league jones is dead while wharton is of the top midfielders on tackles since he has signed
@@jamesdavis7983 Yeah i agree he's quality. Just not really an argument that Jones couldn't play in a double pivot

Mate you talk about left sided cb and guehi has played there for the last 3 years and been flawless for England and palace when he’s played. Don’t quite understand your decision
He also ignored Mitchell being top of interceptions and a LB. Its a biased against Palace
@@IAmThatBit--he’s not biased against palace tbf but I agree he’s got the Guehi call wrong
@@IAmThatBit-- He's talking about the players only in the provisional squad that the FA themselves announced. That's why Mitchell isn't on the list.
who you taking him over?
@chap5674 but he went for Branthwaite, who doesn't play for a top 6 club, so clearly you are talking shit.
has to be eze over grealish
Grealish is proven in World cups and Champ L
@@christianwithers7335proven my arse
@@christianwithers7335I don’t disagree but he has made 1 start at international tournaments and is in much worse form
Im realistic west ham fan, but bowen gets disrespected viciosly as of late seeing as he has more goals then most and if we take away pens he might be one of the highest g/a. I get he wont start but people are saying he has no chance is just a sign that brits are no better then southgate, there just for the names and their favorites over actual form.
Get what you’re saying mate. I think Bowen is class. On the right or down the middle. But the fact is. Saka and Palmer are before him on the left. And he’s not playing over Kane or Watkins in the middle.
We are In an era like 98. I remember it. We were leaving Cole,Wrighty, fowler at home because we had so much depth. It’s unfortunate. But that’s how it is.
Bowen is class, but you can only take 26, and given the injury record at defense, there's your priority. But he would play in a smaller football nation for sure
Absolutely agree and I’m a Villa fan! I think Bowen is absolutely devastating running at defenders and can clearly finish too! I would sacrifice a defender to take Bowen all day! The guy can win you a game in a single passage of play!
Toney has really fallen off a cliff, did nothing for Brentford after coming back and his attitude just feels like it stinks. Solanke should be going, yes he's 3rd choice and may not play but just take him and give him the experience. Toney doesn't deserve to go. You don't even need 3 out and out strikers, Gordon played there when they won the Under 21's tournament, Palmer can play there as a false 9. All that won't happen unless both Kane and Watkins got injured anyway which won't happen. So take the players that deserve it.
For me the only reason I would have him in the squad is because he has a really good penalty record. He’s been lacklustre since returning from his suspension.
@@thanhshaw1020 Yes, he is a great penalty taker but I think we have too much proof and too many instances of players being subbed on for penalties is a bad idea.
@@SirMonkeySuit I agree. Personally I wouldn’t take him, we have enough good penalty takers and i feel he wouldn’t be able to offer enough to make his substitution worth while.
Toney is deadly on pens and solanke isn’t, simple as
@@SirMonkeySuit totally disagree with that comparison. We brought on sancho & Rashford to take a pen in the euros final, neither are known to be clinical pen takers. You would back Toney to score a pen no matter what, even if he doesn’t kick a ball until the penalty shootout, he’s scoring it. In a 26 man squad you take him over taking someone else who isn’t going to get any minutes as they have literally nothing to offer, Toney does, so he goes.
Trent is so overrated. It has been years since he's been good
I'd take Mitchell, Gomez over Shaw or Trippier. Shaw won't be ready, Trippier has had an indifferent season and in no way is he a left back.
Agree. If both are fit then sure but they simply aren't. Trippier has been gassed since November...
Adam Wharton is phenomenal
He has transformed Palace since signing.Very composed in possession
Is he though??
If he plays for Southgate like he has for Palace he really should start alongside Rice. None of the other options will protect the central defenders as well. And dont forget Stones is fourth choice at City now and Maguire would be a similar level for United if players like Varane and Martinez were fit
@@yoagcurStones isn’t fourth choice he’s just been injured you melon
In my squad I dropped Toney and Grealish in favour of Guehi and Eze. I just feel like Toney wouldn't get any minutes at all with how brilliant Watkins and Kane are, plus his form has been kinda poor for Brentford since returning. I see the arguments around penalties but does that warrant him a place? I feel like considering its very possible Shaw won't be fit enough, and given Stones and Maguires recent injury proneness, we need as much cover as possible in the defensive positions. As for Eze over Grealish I think its just a no-brainer for me, even as a City fan - Eze has been much better this year and offers way more of a threat
Watkins is not gonna play over kane and you can use toney for pens
@@briantang6440 yeah I never said Watkins starts over Kane, but he’s much better backup then Toney is. I explained why I don’t think it’s worth bringing him simply for penalties, we have too many injury prone defenders. Also even the best penalty takers can still miss, like Kane vs France, so taking someone purely for pens doesn’t make sense to me.
If England don’t take Toney we all know their gonna lose on a shootout.
Taking a player primarily for shootouts is mad.
@@Chizyrascal87Not just shootouts. He looked pretty decent with the team when they played Belgium.
Agree about Morgan Gibbs-White. One of the most influential players for their club this season but super underrated on the whole. Crazy we have so many amazing players he doesn't even get a look in!
Aston Villa will sign him
The team's way too offense minded. You need a reserve for Declan Rice, so kudos for picking Wharton
FINALLY someone has given TAA a shout at left back! it would be the perfect solution to the injury crisis. He can step in and invert plus he can cover left footed LW's that cut in as he will be on his stronger right side
As a Great Dane, who is in your group and has watched you with some care. England will win this Euro.
Guehi is deffo going
He was starting for england when stones was injured, really don’t see why he wouldn’t go
@@e9cw196 yeah for me it would be stones and guehi starting
No brainer he's a class player.
As he should, far better than Gomez
The biggest decision for Sothgate will be how he decides to use Jude and Foden. I am not sure there’s a right answer.
Lampard/ Gerrard again?
Foden is the better player and has to play 10, if that means jude plays as an 8 so be it hes great there
Play Jude next to Rice and Foden in front of them. That's where he played for Dortmund after all
Bellingham is the 10, foden will be on the left. In game foden will still drift in centrally and Bellingham will float out wide as well, as he has done for Real Madrid this season.
@@Rigg96 This would work but its Southgate so he will have Foden hugging the touchline
Bowen should be going, we hardly have any natural RW saka and Bowen as back up is the way forward
The categories are silly,
Starting 11
Off the bench
On the plane
Danger zone
Not going

Rice Trent Bellingham
Saka Kane Foden
Ramsdale
Henderson
Shaw
Dunk
Quansah
Konsa
Gallagher
Mainoo
Wharton
Palmer
Bowen
Eze
Gordon
Toney
Watkins
As a portuguese who is a fan of these guys I just want to say that England has a very very good squad... btw... why turning Foden into a Bernardo Silva? He deserves to be on top... at least left wing... I don't see him fitting in the midfield... you need someone with good defensive skills there... a midfielder needs to be a little bit of everything while having a good vision for the field... that's why Bernardo fits very well... he doesn't shine that well in any position but he has a bit of everything. Maybe Gallagher would be fine more to control the possession and the counters... you need someone to stop the iniciative of the opponent right from the midfield... Foden just ain't it. Rice and Gallagher make a great duo in my head.
Foden is to the attack, Wharton goes to the bench to play on the other side. Wharton and Maino for fresh legs
what do you think of the portugal squad??
@@adwaitkale315 There has been a debate about two or three players not going... specially Pedro Gonçalves and Trincão from Sporting... the last who played already in Barcelona. Considering they were important for the win of the Portuguese League by Sporting, plenty of people were considering them to be part of the squad but the coach has other intentions. At least Pedro Gonçalves or as he's called Pote, who played a very good season. Some have doubts about Pedro Neto on the squad since he has been injured. Also, Matheus Nunes ain't on the list due to his phisical conditions. Overall you can't please everyone can you... only 26 spots... we have some fresh legs with João Neves from Benfica and Francisco Conceição from Porto. Roberto Martinez likes Conceição since he can bring the ball forward on the flanks... he's fast and good on one o ones... although a bit scrappy on the last shot... when facing the gk... And Neves has a very good and competitive spirit... he can go far...
I am currently not expecting much from Portugal since there is a good and strong competition. It will depend on how they start the Euro's... England and France are my top favourites to win. Would be interesting to see a clash between the two at some point. Then there's Germany and Spain who have a tendency to show some good tactics and good, strong and attacking football even if they don't have the best players. Then Italy of course... always a pain in the *ss to play against Italian tactics... Atalanta played very well against Leverkusen yesterday...
I shall see how Martinez wants to put Portugal to play in the Euro's... there are 5 center backs and 3 defensive midfielders on the list... gives me flashbacks of 2016... we got very lucky back then... that won't repeat again... The one who wins will have to put some scoring boots for this year... that is what I think at least, can be wrong
@@joaochanoca3317 I have been a Ronaldo fan and watching Portugal since 2016 but everytime i see them play i dont see hunger and determination from the players to win. Even under Martinez portugal has looked vulnerable during defensive transitions so many times. I think the friendly against Croatia will give us a good idea how good the team chemistry is and the players willingness to win. Other than that they have great squad to compete against the likes of France and England
Spot on with Ezri Konsa of Aston Villa...he goes under the radar a lot. He does things simple but very effectively, he is consiststant and can play RB as well as CH. His leadership has improved and had to after Mings getting injured in first game of last season...never gives the ball away and wins all his one on one duals.
probably too soon for Quansah but stylistically if you want to play a more progressive style he might sneak in if he gets a friendly game and does well. Defending in one of the hardest systems for a young defender, often 1v1 on the half way line, to do that and perform really well in your first season shows the quality he has.
James you're actually fit mate ❤
Ha, gayyyyyyy!!!
The other thing about Konsa is he doesn’t get dribbled past. Outstanding against pacy skilful attackers.
Once mans threw in Grealish I paused the video. Btw Maguire/Shaw are on that plane regardless of fitness
Curtis is almost as good as gallagher at pressing but so much better on the ball
If things were a bit closer between them I'd understand, but Butland is so far ahead in form, fitness and consistency at the moment it's mind boggling he hasn't made the list. This weekend will be his 57th appearance in all comps this year (including the Europa League). Henderson, Trafford and Ramsdale have just 59 between them, with almost no European Football (Ramsdale made one early appearance). Butland is ahead in almost every metric, except the 'plays in England' one. It isn't the first instance of Southgate ignoring strong talent playing in other leagues either.
Wharton inverted left back for me that man is a baller and can progress the ball from deep better than anyone else in our squad, but we cant be dropping Rice. This is the only solution
One of the reasons I enjoy your stuff so much are bits like this 00:59
Keep doing stuff and bits. X
Usually you’re pretty right when it comes to football stuff. But you should know that, especially at a big tournament, you put players in THEIR NATURAL POSITION!
Trent hasn’t played a single minute in left back this year, not a single minute! Just slapping him up there without having played there won’t work. There’s no preparation time, merely a couple of weeks and 2 friendly games. Nowhere near enough time to properly prepare. It’s all about performing.
It’s not like a right winger playing out on the left still being able to roam freely like Foden can do on either side.
When you mentioned Musiala it just made me think how even more crazy our team would be if he had chosen England over Germany. This has to be our year!
Curtis jones is so massively underrated at this point
Henderson, Pickford, Trafford
Brainthwaite, Gomez, Guehi, Konsa, Maguire, Stones, Trippier, Walker
Alexander-Arnold, Gallagher, Mainoo, Rice, Wharton
Bellingham, Bowen, Eze, Foden, Gordon, Kane, Maddison, Palmer, Saka, Watkins
jones is the only change id make. does everything gallagher does but is far better in possesion and can play in a double pivot
Hey mate, Aussie here just wanted to say really appreciate your content. Up the colonisers at the euros ;) honestly think you are in with a shot, just hoping Branthwaite can plug those gaps at the back for you. Was happily surprised Rashoford was left out. No room with Gordon this season.
Curtis jones his mad underrated I don’t get. It, a champions league goal scorer, someone’s who’s actually played at the top level for 3/4 years now, still only 22
Because there’s nothing special about him, he’s the definition of mid
What are the best parts of Curtis Jones’ play? All I hear is calmness on the ball… please enlighten me cause he’s had 1 goal and 1 assist, I don’t get this creative crap everyone is going on about. And be objective and take the Liverpool hat off
Bowen needs a move. Utd, Newcastle, Tottenham could all use him and it'll be a good move for him
I dont get the grealish call. He wont start and wouldnt be effective off the bench unless youre trying to buy foul and kill a game off. Rashford in no way deserves a call up but if you look at the two on the bench, who do you bring on to make a difference - the answer is obvious.
Southgate tried to kill the game off after 5 minutes against Italy. Not that it worked
All foden, palmer and saka should start.
Harvey Elliot should have been in that squad, he has that magic about him. Fantastic player
He's best as a 10, RW, or RM. He's not getting in on the first two, and he shouldn't get in ahead of his teammate (Jones) as a central midfielder. If even Jones isn't getting picked, he has no chance

RB: Walker
LB: Gomes
CB: Stones/Branthwaite
6: Rice
8: Bellingham
10: Foden
RW: Saka
LW: Gordon

SQUAD
Henderson, Ramsdale, Trippier, Trent, Shaw, Maguire, Guehi, Gallagher, Jones, Mainoo, Palmer, Eze, Bowen, Watkins.
Controversial choice is Maddision, the other options were Qwanseh or Wharton but there is to many in that position, Maddison offers more than Greaelish even though he fell off dramatically.
trent has to start mate
James I think you’ve got Scottish blood in you somewhere, any chance of a similar video for the Scotland squad? (PLEASE!)
50%
I’d 100% drop Toney instead of Eze
I’d like to see a combined 11 with rivals, specifically a combined SQUAD. Maybe help educate fans on the levels. Could do a series of combined 11s/Squads of England versus other euro teams / France Germany all them lot!😊
If I'm honest I would of gone with Maddison and Bowen, I feel the fact Eze has not been called up until this late is a big ask, where Maddison has performed well and for England shown he can do it with that assist for Bellingham to draw the game, and for Bowen I feel he can cover the wings and be a striker if we need to incase of injuries whereas Toney can't cover the same depth, using a 3rd choice striker is rare so I'd go for versatility over quality
This is my England starting XI:
4-2-3-1
Pickford gk
Walker rb
Tomori cb
Stones cb
Mitchell lb
Alexander Arnold dm
Rice dm
Foden rw
Bellingham am
Grealish lw
Kane cf
Bowen and Eze offer more cover than Toney. Bowen works as a striker. Toney's form hasn't been good enough.
Don't drop Eze. Drop Toney.
You don't need Grealish and Toney, Gordon/Bellingham can play as a striker if Kane and Watkins get injured.
Trent needs to start. He needs to play. His long passing is unparalleled in the modern game.
Pretty close… 3 off. Maguire, Branthwaite and grealish out for Guehi, Dunk and Eze. Maguire couldn’t have been forseen
I'm convinced Konsa is one of our best CBs for England
I'm happy you chose cobby and waltorn they have been outstanding and rather over looked this year
Konsa best tackling stats in the PL
I can't really argue with any of your decisions... the one I'm so uncertain of is Maddison. I would have agreed with you if not for his contribution against Belgium. Maddison's assist was brilliant and creative in a tight space... given he's not likely to play unless we're chasing a goal in the last 30 mins I wonder if he can't give you that little spark for one of the forwards to latch onto.
Eze's clearly capable too though. So hard.
if you pick toney, your opinion on anything related to this team is fucking nullified. guys been wank since he came back, shouldnt even be in the 33. when you have bowen palmer foden jude etc who could all easily play a false 9 or even a real 9 if both kane and watkins cant play, taking toney over someone like madders, eze etc is beyond stupid
Your absolutely lost. England fans will cause their fate after they lose the final on a pen shootout.
Peak Pele, Maradonna and Messi were available for England what is he team? 433 with Jude in midfield? I do not get the idea that Bellingham should play as an 8 not a 10 because Foden. Seems no better a solution then Foden playing on the wing. Bayer play with two 10s. Ac Milan used to play with 2 10s. Saka has to play wing back. Or Saka is not in the team if M&M were available,
Sacrificing one of England’s most producing players in recent years position to play 2 10s will be the most dumbest decision ever. Palmer as 10, Foden as LW (false winger), Bellingham as 8, Saka as RW (a touch line hugging winger). Simple as that.
Does Tomori just not exist anymore for English people?
Never understood why he doesn't get a look in. Especially back when he won Serie A.
He’s never going to get consistent minutes so yeah we just pretend he doesn’t exist
Eze over Grealish, I'd also be taking Maddison because he can play a lot deeper than people realise and can help the midfield break the lines.
With more fitness (not injured till last few games of the season), Guehi is in the starting 11 for me next to Stones. Can use both feet and normally plays as the left sided CB. Think Tyrick Mitchell should have got call up as back-up Left Back. Eze can play anywhere in midfield three or on either wing, for that versatility he should be going over some of the players you picked.
I’m taking the piss but imagine this team against like a San Marino or something:
Kane
Saka Bellingham Foden Palmer
Mainoo Trent
Rice Stones Walker
Pickford
Just put all our best players in one team lol I get it wouldn’t work but would be funny
Maddison can play anywhere across the midfield and he creativity is why i’ll think he’ll go
James involved with the euros content on tv confirmed 😂17:38
agree with most but eze has to go and toney shouldn’t have even been anywhere near the 33 man squad let alone the 26
And who replaces Toney? Trashford? You absolutely need Toney for pen shootouts, something that has cost England multiple times.

Fodden and kane are class acts
I feel like the “Oh he’ll go” and “on the plane” should be switched. On the plane sounds like something guaranteed, whereas oh he’ll go sounds like you’re assuring someone about a player they were doubting

I’d swap grealish for eze. Eze does everything Grealish can and better! He’s been playing more consistently and deserves it

Although Grealish is a great player, I wouldn’t take him, hes not done enough for me this season. Bowen can play St or RW. Palmer can cover saka or AM. Same with most of the other forwards. Grealish just hasn’t done enough
Trafford, guei, dunk, toney, eze, Maddison, Bowen/konsa for me to miss out
Grealish is in there “quite comfortably”. He’s been significantly worse than Rashford.
His workrate off the ball is significantly better and he can hold the ball up well/win free kicks. Neither will start but if you want to kill a game off Grealish is a much better option than Rashford.
@@maxcorr6611if you want to win a game rashford is also the far better option. He’d be England’s second top scorer in the entire squad, scored 3 at the last World Cup etc he’s had a bad season but should’ve been a squad option

Madiso has been awful since his injury. 1 decent performance against Sheff Utd- the worst team in prem history - does not mean he is now back in form.
