i think there should’ve been some caveat for Salah’s 2024 metrics. he’s played 876 minutes for liverpool in 2024, a relatively low sample size, no mention of him returning from injury and no emphasis time he spent away from liverpool during afcon. a time that coincided with trent’s injury also. it sort of seemed like the team got used to the right space being used by mostly conor bradley and usually elliott. With Liverpool fans he knows he will be backed hard. His style and the squad he inherents fit like a glove. I would say top 4 is realistic given the level of the league now. And perhaps a cup. I'm already exited for the next season.
Top four and a cup is literally what Liverpool achieved this year lol, all depends of the levels of Salah/VVD, some other top players there but the actual squad level is very far off City and Arsenal so Slot won't have it so easy.
Here's some context for Slot not winning the title with Feyenoord this year: 1.Psv have the best season in history... likely of all Eredivisie teams ever! There are 2 easy games left to win and they even beat the legendary Ajax with Cruyff '71-'72 campaign. 2. Their squat was much more expensive -no more cos Slot further increased the value of his players so much. They have half a dozen players Feyenoord wanted as well but couldn't afford. 3. They beat us at home 1-2 while all relevant statistics like expected goals were for us, we also had the upper hand in Eindhoven which ended 2-2. And we did beat them in the cup game 1-0. 4. We lost 4 points in the 2 first games of the season cos our squat wasn't complete during the preparation weeks and we suffered an unfortunate red card. 5. Still, we scored more goals and conceded less this season and still could win more points coming just 2 points short of Feyenoord's best season ever ('72-'73 85 points). Slot has been our best head coach ever. It's only a matter of time before you'll say what we've been saying the last 3 years: "in Slot we trust". Hate to see him go but he fully deserves his dream transfer.
Man his host is really really good! Quite the layd back atmosphere coupled with good football anaysis by the other two experts. I believe they should have a podcast about the football
It is the mentality that sir Jurgen Klopp brought to Liverpool as a whole, not just the club specifically. Arne Slot will have to work and sacrifice a lot to achieve that level. But, I surely hope the new coach can bring that mentality to us, the Liv fans.
Liverpool's strongest attack came whilst Salah was at AFCON and out injured. That was during Liverpool's worst injury crisis since the title defence season with 0 centre backs for 6 months. When putting all chances through the central striker, whether it was Nuñez or Jota, that was when Liverpool's attack was strongest.
Jota out of the rotation for injury hurt Liverpool. Jota is not only very lethal with a good chance, but I have never seen anyone so efficient at making a pretty good shot out of only a half chance.
This video, along with The Athletic's recent article series on Klopp, are examples of the great team of Football journalists and analysts The Athletic are building 👍
The biggest mistake people can make now is compare Slot with Erik ten Hag or any other Dutch coach who worked in the PL. what Slot showed us in The Netherlands is that he can get the most out of a team. He doesn't need expensive players to win trophies, as he proved last season by winning the Dutch title with a completely new squad after so many players were sold. He didn't even have his squad complete at the start of the season. Any comparison with Ten Hag or Van Gaal is unfair because they had much larger player budgets than Slot had at his disposal. Comparatively, Slot's performance was much better. I'm sure he will succeed at Liverpool.
Good chat guys. If you would analyze Feyenord's European adventures a bit more we might have a better idea about the scalability of Slot's approach at non-Dutch competitions
For what it's worth, I watched all their UCL highlights and didn't see wingers, I saw front foot football and the wide attackers playing close to the CF
I think it says enough, that all of the games Feyenoord lost in Europe was only because they didn't finish the enormous amount of chances they created, while like against AthletiCo, they have one chance and it goes in. Not to mention the weird decisions in offside situations, showing the VAR really just does what it wants when it wants.
The possession thing might be City, Liverpool, Arsenal in the stats but i'd say Liverpool are that high not by choice. Many opposition teams are happy to sit deep and let Liverpool have the ball because Klopp has struggled to consistently break down a low block, whereas Guardiola and Arteta (at times) look like they're happy to play smothering football
Also when Liverpool coughs up an early goal, most teams were satisfied to let Liverpool have 70%-80% possession until/unless Liverpool equalizes. Liverpool did shift into possession style play more often this season than previous Klopp seasons in games things were going their way.
As a Liverpool supporter of over 60 years, when Shanks retired, I thought the world was coming to an end but Bob Paisley came in and look what happened. Also Klopp came in, rival fans said, he's never won anything, he'll be gone by Christmas, etc.

Feyenoord is a big club in the Netherlands with the most supporters in the Counrty, he doesnt come from nowhere...its just a next step higher up...He'll do better than Ten Hag for sure, he is one of the best trainers in the Netherlands and will show you all !!! Everybody happy !!!
this is the best execution of that scripted fake podcast style of presentation i have ever seen. it feels effortlessly natural and fluid. never seen anyone pull that off before on youtube.
Re: JOTA -- if an opposing player DROPS his full weight on your knee from three feet, I would suggest ANY player would be injured for a couple of months. That's hardly his fault. I believe his other injury was also from a very bad tackle. That's just the way it can go.
expectation for next season: 1. beat the low block. it has been an achilles heel for a long time. 2. be consistent. we can have some dip in results but not dropping off a cliff like we did customary, usually around the month of AFCON, but this season it was April unfortunately. 3. at least retain the league cup. though I do hope we can win the league but realistically its not going happen. We can remain as challengers, as it has always been except for a season. So the final expectation is get over the finish line. We always compete well but fell on our face at the finish line.
Sorry but that away game against Atletico was the best game we played and we didnt play a 4213, we played a 442. We lost because of awful refereeing and honestly bad luck. That home game we just fucked it
@@716_ハディくん Atlético scored a literal offside goal but the VAR allowed it. Also, just take a look at the stats of that game. Feyenoord was better at almost everything (except scoring goals, obviously)
Atlético is a member of the European Club Association (ECA), the current president is Nasser Al-Khelaifi (also PSG president), and they have a heavy influence in referees. They are also against the European Superleague, which Real Madrid, Liverpool, Barcelona, and many other clubs are still on board.
damn the production has really received a boost huh. Very happy for you guys and you assimilation with The Athletic! speaking as a coach in the 4th danish division with big ambitions you are so good at explaining relative complex tactical ideas in a simple and understanderable way with humor added :) great work
Sorry, my bad with the line-up. But here Jon is trying to illustrate the structural problems of playing with the flat three against Atleti, having two more defensive midfielders in the middle three doesn't mean they were playing a double pivot. The important point is that Atleti were able to generate an overload in build-up then acres of space in the middle with the wing-backs being a problem for the back-line.
That was only a succes once, Zeroukki was a waste of money, and even in the eredivisie the game goes too fast for him. He is like Amrabat, can follow an opponent the entire game, but has to go e the ball to someone who can play football when he gets the ball.
Players like Matip, Thiago and Tsimikas will most likely leave this summer. Gomez and Diaz futures are up in the air it seems like. We deffo need a CB but should also look at a CDM and maybe striker/attacker. If Slot could get Nunez scoring even half the chances he gets a lot of the problems would be solved. Because it’s not like we’ve had a lack of chances created we just aren’t scoring them. Also need to get back to being top 3 best set piece teams in the league we have completely lost that this season.
@@jackjude Konaté can't play every game because he's injury prone and Quansah is still very young. Matip is great when fit but also stuggles with his injuries and probably won't get a new contract because of that. But Matip offers something different compared to the other CB's, his reading of the game and ability to drive the ball forward is amazing and I feel we need someone with similar attributes.
@@jackjude Being Liverpool, the team will be hit by a ton of injuries so it's always best to prepare for the future. Just 2 injuries to VVD and Konate and it would be looking scary.
I'm excited for the new era, Arne Slot certainly seems to tick almost all of the boxes to be a good manager. I hope he does well. That being said, his lack of experience outside the Netherlands is my biggest (and only real) concern with him. Not trying to belittle the Eredivisie or anything, they do play some exciting football, but the Premier League is a huge step up, the quality of football is higher, more intense, faster paced and can be ruthless, never mind going to Liverpool, where expectations will be much higher. There is a chance that Slot might get a culture shock when he moves and there is no guarantee that his success at AZ Alkmaar or Feyenoord will translate to success for Liverpool, as we saw with Erik Ten Hag. That being said, from what I have been reading, Arne Slot does have one huge advantage over Erik Ten Hag, personality and communication. Slot is a lot more charismatic, more empathetic and has a better sense of humour than Ten Hag, who lacks that sense of human connection and is a lot more blunt. Arne Slot is also apparently a lot more fluent in English than Ten Hag, so much so that apparently that Slot made English the first language at Feyenoord. It was read that while both men were in the Netherlands their personalities were on full display in press conferences. Ten Hag often sounded like he reading off a script word-for-word. Arne Slot by contrast would often throw in a few jokes every now and again and make reporters laugh, which again may help Slot to settle in England better than Ten Hag did. I do think Arne Slot has the ability to make it work and I hope that the culture shock won't impact him too and he recovers/settles in quickly. Bring it on Arne Slot.
I'm not worried. The board has their identity and a way they want to play and go forward with, just like they had under Klopp. Next step was for them to find a coach with similar values, similar playstyle, etc. and now all remains for the new coach to put the pieces together with the board and fans as always behind him.
i tought this video didnt fully understand what arne slot try to do with his limited quality at feyenoord versus massive atletico. Arne slot still most genuine to do adaptive tactics like those you mentioned
i had no ideas yas were back in another format and under a different channel. good to see the 3 amigos and Joes random looks and stares into the camera ^^
The end of era moment came when Sadio Mane left. Playstyle completely changed. Last two seasons have been preparing for his departure, I reckon next season they'll be as competitive but will have a bigger and more experienced squad so have a little more depth for the end of the season.
As much as I enjoy these videos, and they're very informative. Boy do I miss the fun unhinged, borderline psychotic content these lit used to make on tifo. I hope maybe they can bring something back for the euros, even if its just a one off show
I'm worried about the system that leaves big space between the full back and centre back. That's the main defensive issue Liverpool had in 22/23 that dropped them out of the top 4.
Football tactics and picking teams won't be a tough task for Arne Slot it will be building relationships with Klopps players and convincing everyone in and outside the club he's good enough to get the job done.
Does anyone know who the footballer is in the photo behind Jon Mackenzie. Wearing denim jeans and jacket, and white Hugo Boss T Shirt. Is it perhaps Totti? Or Ginola?
I don't how he can solve the 'Nunez can't hit a barn door' and 'Salah needs 15 chances for 1 goal' conundrums. Those are the biggest problems with this Liverpool side
The best thing of Liverpool is its recruitment. When they spend they spend really intelligently without the resources of Man City. As a Barcelona fan I wished things where run this way.
I really hope this guy keeps Liverpool in the mix of things at the top of the PL this next season. Van Dijk is going to speak up if things aren’t working out. Klopp’s influence has been fatherly to the lads over the years and they’re gonna wanna show their Kloppdaddy that they’re big boys when he’s gone.
First of all, thank you for the awesome content. While I agree that Salah's form has dropped I cannot agree with you on the point that his shot power is affecting his shot-to-goal ratio. I think it's his general composure and lack of confidence that's affecting him in front of the goal. We've been seeing less of him dribbling past defenders and more of shooting on sight situations.. He used to be so calm in front of the goal but not so much these days
The biggest issue is the lack of the Firmino role and anyone who can do it consistently. Also, Fabihno at peak was amazing. These are 2 Klopp era roles that have never been sufficiently replaced. There is also the issue of no replacement for Mane's scoring. Diaz is a good player but not as dangerous, this makes it harder on Salah.
Nunez as a real striker should replace Mane's goal scoring. Thats the trade off: less involved in the game but scores more goals. Problem is, he doesnt score.
I don't expect much from Liverpool next season, but I would hope they stick with Slot for a season or two to give him a proper shot in the job. My hope for Liverpool would simply be to improve in Defense, but I would completely understand a bit of a drop off between this year and next, I think LFC somewhat overperformed this year, I would expect them to at least regress to the mean if not underperform under a new manager. If he manages to teach Darwin what the offsides rule is I would give him a 5 year extension on the spot
Have the lads forgotten about Melo when they talk about mistakes? To me Klopp's biggest mistake was handing an ageing, injury prone Henderson, a 4 year contract extension even though he still had two years left. Very rarely do you see that happen with players over 31 at that level. It went against everything Liverpool have been trying to build over the years and if the stories are to be believed, caused a rift between Klopp and others within that hierarchy. Also it's the worst because predictably, the following season after Hendo got that extension, his form fell of a cliff. Also, the midfield being an absolute disaster the following season showed a series of bad decisions with regards to the midfield over a year that doomed Liverpool last season. Henderson extension, not selling Oxlade and Keita, not buying a midfielder and the loan of Melo.
Data is a minor part as its a totally different league and will have different opposition and intensive competitiveness.... It only gives a relative indicator of whether he has aspects you are looking for that you want to imprint on lfc squad. Its not as if they are going to bankroll him to re build a complete team for him....

It makes it a bit riskier than Pep birnally likes but I personally find it a bit more visually interesting to watch
@@prikkeldraad7112 Klopp is a lot more like Guardiola in possession this last season.
Gents, this is just gold. You couldn't have told us a better story and what to expect of Arne. Thanks for that
With Liverpool fans he knows he will be backed hard.
His style and the squad he inherents fit like a glove. I would say top 4 is realistic given the level of the league now. And perhaps a cup.
I'm already exited for the next season.
Top four and a cup is literally what Liverpool achieved this year lol, all depends of the levels of Salah/VVD, some other top players there but the actual squad level is very far off City and Arsenal so Slot won't have it so easy.
remember when Hodgson inherited a squad that had Torres, Gerrard, Reina, Carragher, Agger and how did that turn out

Here's some context for Slot not winning the title with Feyenoord this year:
1.Psv have the best season in history... likely of all Eredivisie teams ever!

The whole analysis is from a photo moment because if he had watched the match it would have been different.
Finally, a long-form video from The Athletic
Would love for you to go over Liverpool 19/20 campaign because it encapsulated the balance of possession and counter attacking
I came back to watch this again, after Slot guiding LFC to the top of the PL, and CL.

Love the joke at 6:58. I have watched it ten times. It is inexplicably hilarious. Love this channel. Hopefully FSG spend on a centre back this summer.
Re: JOTA -- if an opposing player DROPS his full weight on your knee from three feet, I would suggest ANY player would be injured for a couple of months. That's hardly his fault. I believe his other injury was also from a very bad tackle. That's just the way it can go.
expectation for next season:
1. beat the low block. it has been an achilles heel for a long time.
2. be consistent. we can have some dip in results but not dropping off a cliff like we did customary, usually around the month of AFCON, but this season it was April unfortunately.
3. at least retain the league cup.
though I do hope we can win the league but realistically its not going happen. We can remain as challengers, as it has always been except for a season. So the final expectation is get over the finish line. We always compete well but fell on our face at the finish line.
Let’s get top 4 , and I’m to win a domestic cup .
Great vid. Watched the whole thing.

Sorry but that away game against Atletico was the best game we played and we didnt play a 4213, we played a 442. We lost because of awful refereeing and honestly bad luck. That home game we just fucked it

Revisiting this after Slot’s Liverpool just embarrassed United at OT.
damn the production has really received a boost huh. Very happy for you guys and you assimilation with The Athletic! speaking as a coach in the 4th danish division with big ambitions you are so good at explaining relative complex tactical ideas in a simple and understanderable way with humor added :) great work
Zerrouki played instead of Minteh in the first leg against Atleti. Zerrouki is a cdm so they actually played with a double pivot the first game.
The kind of content we love to see!

Should be nice weather for the game tonight. 82F/27C with a nice breeze coming off the river
Aren't you okay at CB with Konate, VvD, Gomez and Quansah?
I would 💯 keep Matip
@@jackjudeKonate too injury prone. Gomez is a bit too. Quansah needs time to develop. I'm more surprised Edwards isn't going for a 6 first.

Evryone put a lot into this. Very good
I'm not worried.

The end of era moment came when Sadio Mane left. Playstyle completely changed.
Last two seasons have been preparing for his departure, I reckon next season they'll be as competitive but will have a bigger and more experienced squad so have a little more depth for the end of the season.
the pause with the head scratch is the highlight
Would be good to have an interview with the guy so we get a sense of who he is
As much as I enjoy these videos, and they're very informative. Boy do I miss the fun unhinged, borderline psychotic content these lit used to make on tifo. I hope maybe they can bring something back for the euros, even if its just a one off show
Agreed! It made stats fun. The euro 2021 livestreams were peak TIFO
I'm worried about the system that leaves big space between the full back and centre back. That's the main defensive issue Liverpool had in 22/23 that dropped them out of the top 4.
To all Liverpool supporters: your getting an amazing manager! Greetings from Rotterdam
Football tactics and picking teams won't be a tough task for Arne Slot it will be building relationships with Klopps players and convincing everyone in and outside the club he's good enough to get the job done.
Not seen this show before but I like the palpable contempt all the presenters have for one another
I hope to see at least a pre season game with most of the existing players. I most of them with a bit of tweaking, can Slot into the team.

Well done
I don't how he can solve the 'Nunez can't hit a barn door' and 'Salah needs 15 chances for 1 goal' conundrums. Those are the biggest problems with this Liverpool side
@ynwa9621 yeah, I'd say both those 'claims' relate more to Nunez. Salah's shot conversion has dropped but isn't bad.
Or the fact they can't keep a clean sheet
Nuñez scores plenty. Your second best striker getting over one in three is not a problem for anyone.
And conceding first
Will he ‘Slot in’ ?

The best thing of Liverpool is its recruitment. When they spend they spend really intelligently without the resources of Man City. As a Barcelona fan I wished things where run this way.
I hate to be losing him but we have to give our newest appointment the highest backing! YNWA 97 ❤❤❤❤❤
Is there a site I can look out playstyles like this?
I’ve been waiting for this
The biggest issue is the lack of the Firmino role and anyone who can do it consistently.
Arne snot it's all going end in tears
Maybe you guys can do Enzo Maresca next?
Can’t wait for him to start he looks like the real deal

Liverpool fans' expectations at the start of this season was to get back into the top 4. No one was expecting a title challenge.

Love you guys and your dad jokes
