Funny thing is many Japanese see Dragon Quest Overture as the "National anthem". It's kind of official now because it's the first song played in Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony.
When we got to the Chrono Trigger theme I looked away from the screen for a moment to jot something down and what made me look back was that the fact that out of the corner of my eye it looked like pendulum that appeared on-screen was Marco's floating head-circle just arcing across the screen to the music
The funny thing about Dragon Quest, to anyone who isn't familiar with the other series Akira Toriyama did character design for before even Chrono Trigger, is that it's the same exact theme since Dragon Warrior on the NES/Famicon. It hasn't changed outside of being rearranged for newer titles.
The core melody yes, but games have variations of the intro and outro sections. Look at DQ9 it has an entirely unique opening section to the overture not present in the 11 version, itself having it's own unique opening compared to the original DQ1 version. So I'd say this is a half truth.
I never thought I'd ever see you react to anything Syberia! The original Syberia is one of my favorite games of all time, and the main theme of the first one is AMAZING. Pretty much all of the music from that game franchise is amazing. Just a classic point and click adventure experience you can't find anywhere else.
Same, I'm really glad that he checked it out :)), it's the first and second game are really some of my favorite video game experiences ever, can't recommend them enough
Also, your analysis on Syberia 3 was spot on. Obviously no spoilers about the first 2 games, but it's definitely meant to feel very directionless, like you said. Leaving your past behind, but not having a clue on what your future could even begin to be. Just wandering with no real goal, trying to find one.
Props to whoever suggested Isaac's original Flash main theme, everybody just remembers Rebirth/Repentance nowadays but the original one really was my vibe back then. Nowadays I can't listen to it without feeling the tears coming up (ironic I know). If you thought "I'm a traumatized child lost in the depths of nothingness" was bleak, I highly recommend the first Darkest Dungeon's main theme. I can only describe it as "This is the end".
The new Isaac games improved on pretty much everything, but I could never get into them because they dropped the ball on the music. Original and Wrath of the Lamb OSTs are pure art.
If you are interested in music for the Binding of Isaac, I HIGHLY recommend you check out the original soundtrack made for the mod "Antibirth" (the mod that actually inspired a lot of the last expansion for the game, "Repentance") by Mudeth. It has quite a different feel to the original game soundtrack.
I love the Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (and beyond) soundtrack, but god there's something I miss dearly about the original Danny Baranowsky tracks Also massively recommend checking out the OST from the mod Antibirth, that team was later brought on officially and it was reworked to be the Repentance DLC, but the music was changed and some of the original tracks were fantastic
The Siberia 3 "folk tune" should be recognizable as it was inspired by Zimmer's orchestral piece from the Lion King called Remember. Great vid as usual Marco!
In the vein of main themes one of my favorites is the theme from Valkyria Chronicles... it captures the feelings so well, and if you put it over a major period war movie I doubt anyone would notice.
I love exploring the music with you on this channel. Sometimes it is great and sometimes I am like wtf is this? There is so many good music themes, that I might not even know. Sometimes it reminds me of good old times when I played the game. It is so interesting that sometimes you need to play the game to appreciate the music.
I totally agree. And don't forget about Mario + Rabbids. The Sparks of Hope soundtrack was composed by Grant Kirkhope, Gareth Coker AND Yoko Shimomura (so three composers with basically legendary status in the VGM scene). And considering how much he likes "All Stars Burn As One" from KOTOR in this video he would probably appreciate this too.
Also, fun fact: Every Sparks of Hope composer has been involved in performing music from Paper Mario: The Origami King before. Grant Kirkhope and Gareth Coker performed on the fan-made medley "Line Them Up!" and Yoko Shimomura was involved in the actual soundtrack as a vocalist (for example in Origami Castle).
Im so glad it was the original Binding of Isaac theme you listened too, that soundtrack was fantastic, theres some brilliant other ines "Burning Ambush" is a good one, or "....be done". The same artist also did "Crypt of the Necrodancer"'s OST which is also flipping brilliant
Ok, I had to wait to write this comment because I was driving, but holy shit you can't jumpscare me with the Dragon Quest main theme. One of my first memories was watching my dad play Dragon Warrior (DQ in the west), and I would always make him wait the intro out so I could listen to that song. Thanks for the tears while driving❤
the Blade and Sorcery analysis was something i did NOT expect. that game has such an incredible OST. the synth representing the ever-present influence of the Dalgarians even long after all you can do is look through their ruins and read tablets in a language you can CHOOSE TO TRANSLATE MANUALLY just makes me nerd out completely. the composers did incredible. infinitely replayable VR game
1:20 This really sounds like the main theme for Kiki's magical delivery. I think its written by Joe Hisashi which is dunny because i heard someone saying he ripps other people's songs.
One main theme that I feel goes woefully underappreciated is Child of Light's "Aurora's Theme". It's technically the main character's theme but since it plays in the menu and is the first thing you hear, I count it as the main theme. Apart from a couple of twists and the gimmick (they tried to make as much of the dialogue rhyme as possible), I've largely forgotten the game. But that main theme still sticks with me. Very simple. Very pretty. Perfectly fits the vibe of the game.
Regarding the GTA4 theme and why it sounds so much more serious than the other GTA games is that during the development of the game, a lot of the devs were going through a tough time, mix that with them being inspired by russian mob movies and you got yourself a setting where the city you play in has a feeling of coruption and a sense that it is the real antagonist of the game. Great video as always! I'd recommend maybe listening to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron main theme (or the entire soundtrack), the music in it makes you feel incredibaly powerfull.
I know you mostly do video game soundtracks, but as you were talking about Star Wars it made me wonder if you'd be interested in breaking down the themes Kevin Kiner has done for the Star Wars animated stuff - especially his work on Clone Wars and Bad Batch. Crosshair's theme in particular is musically incredible.
I remember when the Street Fighter finals would start in tournaments and that song would start playing it really did what it was suppose to do. SF4 days were so fun.
As a recommendation, the opening theme to Legend of Dragoon, "If you still believe" is one that both brings a tear to my eye and inspires hope at the same time. Certainly helps that Sony also has a music division so that probably was leveraged to some extent for the games production as it was made by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). I always get the feeling of making the best of bad circumstances and getting back on your feet regardless of how tough the road ahead becomes. The longing for those far and for those lost. For those who know the game, Lavitz still is the best :'(
Speaking of Star Wars, the main theme from X-Wing vs Tie Fighter is my favorite piece of Star Wars music, and it wasn't even in the movies. It's a sort of mashup of Luke's theme and the Emperor's theme.
The Silent Hill theme definitely is the most interesting and most memorable one outta those. Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring and Final Fantasy are IMO also top contenders. They simply get you in the right mood.
Marco, I beg of you. Please react to either the original Gears of War ost or the ost for Dying Light 1. Or both. I would love to hear your insight on those oundtracks.
In the recent mh wilds trailer, there's the beginning of arkveld's theme. Someone took that and made what he thinks might be the official theme. Please give it a listen when you can it's so good, and it's actually a bit emotional as well.

Main themes I've always had stick with me? I liked the Street Fighter II theme, the Final Fantasy VI (3 in NA), Mega Man 2 from the NES days, Legend of Zelda for sure (I know I'm dating myself with all these 8 bit references). I liked almost all the soundtrack from Breath of Fire I, from Battletech, From Metal Gear Solid, Dawn of War, Age of Empires II have to get mentioned. RTS and RPG defined my gaming experience (after the early platformer/fighter phase of early consoles) but there are just so many and I know I've forgotten more than I've thought to list here but that's a good sample. It's music that grabs your attention and holds it (like the theme from saturday night slam masters) and if you've ever heard it before, upon hearing it again you're transported back to the time you first heard it. That's the magic of good music as a storytelling medium.
There is a game I think you would be interested in reacting to its music. It's called workers and resources soviet republic and the composer, Rotem Hecht, made some really good pieces, especially with a lot of vocals in it. There are 3 songs I can name off the top of my head I think would be good to start off with. The Vodka Waltz, Working Class, and Working and Singing. They all are in the style of Soviet music, as the name suggests. Damn good soundtrack, in my opinion. It also has a really good main theme too. I haven't seen anyone react to its music, so it would be nice to see you do it, especially with your background!
Hey Marco there's a really good musical about the Odyssey here on youtube called Epic the musical while i know you usually cover video game music, you can just listen to it on your own time if you don't want to mạke it a video. Pls and thanks for all your hardwork
From others, I can recommend: - Anno 2205 - "Global Union Anthem" - Stellaris - "Faster than Light" - Aer: Memories of Old - "Home" - Planet of Lana - "Horizons" - Far: Lone Sails - "Colored Engine" - Offworld Trading Company - "Red Planet Nocturne" - In Other Waters - "Symbiosis"
"traumatic experience of playing that game"...ay yo play Senua to take added psychic damage :D "you don't stop being an opera singer"...had a lovely older lady at the story sing opera happy birthday(in style of William Tell) for me the other day, and it was fantastic!
I love how those jarring and chaotic stings in Silent Hill theme create an unnerving and mysterious vibe, but to me the shift to a lo-fi punk rock is too sudden, and I would've preffered to hear the rest of the string part instead...But sadly there is no extended version
I looked through your channel and noticed you haven't done reaction/reviews of Streets of Rage and Streets of Rage 2. If you're not familiar with those titles or their music, I very much recommend them as they were composed by the great Yuzo Koshiro. He is a mastermind of a composer and it would be awesome to watch you break down his music. I can even provide a list of tracks if you want
Syberia! Now taht's a nostalgic one. Never got to play it but I remember it being a big talk back in the days when i was a kid and being very interested. I should correct that regret and get it someday
I remember first time hearing this OST from Severance: Blade of Darkness by Oscar Araujo in Pewdiepie LWIAY video, when subscriber on Subreddit was showing Pewds his Church-house in Minecraft and he used that soundtrack there. Then after a lot of time i heard it again in Black Halberd mod for Elden Ring video and it suited perfectly to the standing under the rain Black Blade Kindred gargoyle before Beastial Sanctum. In the original game this music plays when MC retrieves the most powerful weapon in the game the Sword of Ianna. Since then i always play this music in my head whenever i imagine or witness Temple or some kind of other holy or sacred place.
I'm very passionate about video game music, and there's a lot I love from a lot of different genres, but there is no song that has a more reliable effect on my emotions (and tear ducts) than the outer wilds theme/travelers
While the Binding of Isaac theme indeed was a bleak way to end, it gives us an opportunity to sit with it for a bit. If we're able and willing. Exploring uncomfortable states of being can be very meaningful. Besides, if we don't care to, simply look up a cheery theme for ourselves. Ain't no one stoppin' us.
Binding of Isaac is probably still my favorite roguelike, despite being the one I have the least hours with(~100 hours on flash and ~150 on Rebirth). Its story is just haunting. While Repentance ends the game on a relatively happy note, the content of the game doesn't change. Story's tough to take in.
@@blazingmonolith4323 The entirety of SFV soundtrack goes really, REALLY hard, which is a feat because IV was one of my most listened OSTs as a teenager. Falke, Seth, and of course RAAAASHIIIIDOOOOOOOOO

Yo Marco, could you talk about Doors OST? It's a Roblox game with very cool songs, I have some suggestions for you: -Dawn Of The Doors -Oh Dam -Ready Or Not -Ready To Rumble -Guiding Light Theme -Make Haste -Unhinged II If you want to react to trailers, these are my suggestions: Mines Floor 2 Trailer HOTEL+ Update Trailer The trailers are in LSPLASH channel. This is day 7 asking this
I loved the main themes to The Last of Us, Jedi Fallen Order, RiME, (undertale too but I can’t remember if it had a main theme) RiME is a really cool game I recommend checking it out also Jedi Fallen Order is another recommendation too
Well, the Suikoden 1+2 Remaster is coming out soon. And the Suikoden 2 opening is still one of my fav. of all times. Then there is Grandia 1. You can hear the epic adventure in the themes.
22:56 Well now that I see KOTOR mentioned, you should listen to Cal Kestis Main Theme from Jedi Fallen Order, is so good and it has all of what you like!!
GTA IV is by far the best one. Play it, 100%. The DLC too, there are tie ins to the main game. Also, IV is more serious than the others, but it does have the trademark GTA humor. It’s hilarious. Especially the radio station Integrity 2.0, which is unlocked once you reach a certain part of the game.
Hiya Marco I was wondering if you’d do a musical let’s play of signalis? (Of course there’s not a lot of music on there but it’s still a pretty good game that I recommend)
Unfortunately the GTA and SF4 themes got copyright claimed so i'd expect those to disappear from this video :( what other main themes do YOu love?!
A lot..., But recently, it is Mh Wilds !
Half-Life 2 and Mario Galaxy
Please make more videos where you listen to the binding of isaac soundtrack
Assissin's Creed 3 main theme
Baba Yetu of Civilization IV ? Or the new main theme of Civilization VII. You have also the main theme of Heroes of Might and Magic 5
Ah yes, the Smash Ultimate opening:
"Thank you for buying our game. Everyone is dead"
"Except Kirby because he is my son"

The final fantasy main theme should've 100% been here, especially the version from FF12. It's so, so good
Nothing compares to Chrono Trigger's main theme.

You have to do Cinnabar theme from Houseki no Kuni. It just calls your name!
Silent Hill 3's version of the original theme hits pretty hard in my opinion. Called "Hometown"; you should definitely check it out!
The medal of honor theme is always good one
You should look up Smooth McGroove’s cover of the Chrono Trigger main theme. It’s incredible.

Mines Floor 2 Trailer
HOTEL+ Update Trailer

Give Knights of the Old Republic 2 The Sith Lords' theme a try - it's so quaint.
I loved the main themes to The Last of Us, Jedi Fallen Order, RiME, (undertale too but I can’t remember if it had a main theme)
RiME is a really cool game I recommend checking it out also Jedi Fallen Order is another recommendation too
Also the multiplayer menu music for Black Ops II is a banger. Not sure if it’s “good” though but 🤷
Well, the Suikoden 1+2 Remaster is coming out soon. And the Suikoden 2 opening is still one of my fav. of all times. Then there is Grandia 1. You can hear the epic adventure in the themes.
You HAVE to listen to Code Vein's main theme! It is amazing!!!
Castlevania lord of shadow 1 sound track's
Is really just Underrated...
You might enjoy the main theme of arma 3 and many of its variants for the different DLCs :3
I think the Ender Lilies OST would be a nice soundtrack to listen to.
I find it very interesting and I think you would too.
I dunno why I enjoy the Silent Hill theme so much.
Some more great Main Themes to listen to:
- Metal Gear Solid 2
- Xenoblade Chronicles
- Wild Arms 1, 2 and especially 3
- Secret of Mana (original)
Check out the main theme for Summoner (also the rest of the OST). Its great.
Hiya Marco
I was wondering if you’d do a musical let’s play of signalis?
(Of course there’s not a lot of music on there but it’s still a pretty good game that I recommend)
