Brings back a lot of memories from my graduation from MCRD San Diego in '90. I Remember marching across Parade Deck, and when the CG told us that we made it and were now officially US Marines being one of the most important things to happened in my life. I went to boot camp a sniveling little momma's boy, I left as more than just a man. I left as a US Marine.

@@usmc-veteran73-77 It was the top 10% when in during 1969. The Guide, and 4 squad leaders and high shooter and top on the Pt Tests. Or around 10%. Now they can promise someone PFC out of boot camp---and that should never happen. You should still have to earn it-----but obviously that's not happening these days. Need a Commandant who takes a tougher line on non-earned promotions. Makes boot camp a bit of a joke-----when it isn't just the best getting promoted.

I served from 76-82. I'm not one of those 'Well, back in the Old Corps' types. I think Marines coming out of Boot Camp smart, motivated and disciplined; our standards are higher than ever! That being said, I miss seeing leather dress shoes that have been spit shined for 2 1/2 months! Not including the week of prepping the shoes! There's nothing like the shine of high gloss leather.
The other is inspection brass. Weeks of sanding, polishing, re-sanding until it looks like an Aztec treasure. My brass looked like it had a 100 coats of lacquer on it! I know I'm not the only one in the Marines who still knows how to shine brass and leather.......🙃
