She was a drug cheat, the testing at the time, weren't very good, all tests were performed before an event, by then, people were manipulating the system, they took enhancement drugs for weeks or months before an event, then take other substances to erase all traces of the drugs before the completion, this is why she was never caught.
The IOC found out about this trick and decided in 1989 to change their test process, they stipulated that all athletes were to be tested randomly in the year, during training, before an event and anytime of the IOCs choosing, this method proved effective and is still being used today, infact, the vast majority of drug cheats are caught by random testing.
Immediately after this announcement, Flo Jo made her decision to retire, she never ran another race, because she would have been found out.
If you look at Usain Bolt and many other world record breaking sprinters, they all won multiple gold medals in their careers before breaking their respective world records, not Flo Jo, she won 1 gold medal in Italy in 1987, and it was the relays, not her own individual effort, her time was also poor, nothing ground breaking.
She was running for over 10 year's professionally and never won a single individual gold medal, her time in all of her races were also average, she ran sub 11 twice in her life before she did multiple times in 1988.
Flo Jo was a drug cheat, it was the drugs that killed her, Steroids have a way of destroying the heart, many pro wrestlers and body builders die this way, so too did Florence!!

Have you ever heard of Darrell Robinson? If we go by what you posted, the answer would be no. So we suggest you go on TH-cam and check it out. While you are at it, check out Victor Conte and his data. You do know who Victor Conte is don't you? "COACH"??? What about WADA, NADA, IOC, and how they played into the whole scheme? "coach"? you know about them too, don't you? Do the deep research, gather all the data, numbers and then run your mouth. You may want to start with her numbers 1984-1987. If you were ever on the track, explain how YOU would be able to go from a 10.96 to 10.49 in less than six months. That's a drop of .47s, or a gain of about five meters. We remember Bolt saying he trained for over TWO YEARS, just to drop .5s. You do know who Bolt is don't you? "coach"????????? put a sock in it.

Being "GENETICALLY GIFTED" was how she did it. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a prime example of what it means to be BORN A CHAMPION. His structure, muscle fibers, cardiovascular system, etc, were unusually perfected toward bodybuilding IN THE WOMB.
Few humans are born this way. He even admitted training with and without steroids, and was able to excel without them as well.
Likewise, everything in Flo Jo's body was waiting for her to discover "TRACK" from the day she was born. 1 person out of millions, over many decades might be born with these ATHLETIC GIFTS.
But, where great gifts are given, there are flaws too. She pushed beyond human limitations and her heart had all it could take. Or, we can say, "GOD wanted his GIFT back".

Flo-Jo was elegant, she brought elegance to Track and Field, and because of that her detractors had to remove her from standing next to their plain Janes. No longer could flowing blonde hair be the standard of beauty in Track and Field, a woman with a honey complexion and gorgeous accessories pushed everyone to the back of the line. Flo-Jo was the definition of elegance, she was stunning, she could have taken the Field in an evening gown, that's how gorgeous she was, and "they" have yet to find a plain Jane to compete on or off the Track.

Thank you for covering Flo Jo! I believe Flo Jo was the epitome of a strong black woman and woman period, she worked and trained extremely hard to obtain her goals. She was a woman of substance, style, grace and kindness, she was and is one of the GREATEST Athlete's Ever! I was heartbroken to hear if her death when I was younger, it was just a huge blow and loss. Thank you again for covering this ICON, I believe she was a clean athlete who truly loved what she did with style and grace. RIP Beautiful Flo Jo! ❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏

She was amazing! So many of us remember the magic of watching her run in the Olympics. I had no idea she had passed so soon! So sad! She was a world champion who stood out from the rest. I think some people are just jealous. I'm glad her life was a happy one up to the end, even if she is gone too soon. 😥

The enemy ALWAYS goes out of its way to discredit The Power of Us. She was a Pure Divine Powerhouse on that Race Track. She was AMAZING, that's ALL I know.
I am not an athlete, nor can I imagine the stress they go through just to entertain the rest of us with their physicality. She was a intense force to be reckoned with. She was Beautiful, Elegant, and Kind. She made every Little Black Girl believe they could run as fast as a Goddess.
For that I will ALWAYS adore her 🙏🏾💗

Oh I don’t care if she used drugs or not. She was amazing. And at a time where there wasn’t many a brown skinned female you look up to, she was the goal for black girls Latino girls that you could dig your way out of the ghetto and The boss lady and No you didn’t have to lose your culture and doing it! When she died I was in middle school and I remember I was so sad.

when you say Latino, what do you mean? as for black girls, break it down. Don't just use a wide paintbrush, put some facts on the table.

Oh my God I had no clue that she ever even passed away I used to love seeing her on TV with those nails and everything she was the bomb! I'm going to stick around and listen to the whole story and thank you for posting this. I've also enjoyed your story on Brooke Shields and Rita Hayworth and Rita Moreno I believe.
