She admitted her wrongs after she got caught. What the article doesn't mention is that her teammates on the relay teams also lost their medals, and had to return the money they received from competing and placing. So, she effectively screwed them all over too. Jones was selfish, a cheater, and dishonest, and people who trusted her got hurt.

      Scarcely
      1. She never returned the prize money, she obtained by cheating, which would be worth well over a million $ today.
      2. The judge wanted to give her at least 2 years prison : this is shown by her suspended sentence. She was involved in a multi-million $ cheque fraud scheme.
      3. She never admitted doping : she was forced to admit to dishonesty, meaning cheque fraud, on the steps of the court, which the journalists surrounding her misinterpreted as meaning doping.
      4. She was associated with CJ Hunter from age 16 : she needed Johnnie Cochran of OJ Simpson fame, to get her off a lifetime ban for doping as a teenager : she served a 4 year ban.
      5. Given her poor performance at cross fit, and her teenage dominance, the suspicion is, she was doping from age 12.
(Her high school coach, was known to be a coach of Evelyn Ashford, the 10.7 second world record holder before Flo Jo. Evelyn Ashford sported a moustache. )
      6. And as has been pointed out elsewhere, she cheated multiple others, in a blatant fashion, of their due medals, advertising revenue, Diamond League prizes, and also spread doping.
      7. It is also unknown whether she was a drug dealer : athletes have been tested as positive for THG, CLEAR, from BALCO, and the route is unknown.
      8. She may yet suffer her due : all the drugs she is known to have taken are likely to have side effects such osteoporosis, heart problems : the most common symptom of a heart attack is death (50%), and other health issues.

Due to THG being undetectable by the methods used in the 2000 Sydney Olympics she was on the maximum dose, her body could stand, throughout competition. Even given advantages of the better tracks in 2000 and maximum doping, MJ could not match a performance, 10.49 100m, Flo Jo considered disappointing : in an interview immediately after, Flo Jo stated she had run faster, and wanted to run faster in the future.

It truly amazes me that Marion Jones was the only professional athlete to go to prison because of her performance enhancement drug use. There were quiet afew high profile professional athlete‘s ( Roger Clemens, Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, Jose Caseco and others ); who were involved in the BALCO scandal and nothing happened to them. Anyway! Im glad to know that Marion Jones have moved on with her life and doing well. Im also glad to know that Marion is giving back to the community; and a role modle for young women and women in general.

If people would be honest with themselves and not so self-righteous, this is a good example of the tribulations of normal life. If you are talented, there is an early time period of fantasy land where everybody thinks you can walk on water. So, you try not to disappoint people, but you soon realize it is an impossible standard to uphold. Eventually, you either cheat or come to grips with how you actually cannot walk on water. Then adult life begins.

It was BALCO, CONTE, etc., who was hunted by the FBI. Some FBI agents felt drug cheating had to stop.
MJ got caught up in the BALCO scandal because she neglected to make sure the trail of evidence from BALCO, the doping calendars they held, were destroyed. This was purely due to stupid behaviour on her part : a level of stupidity even Trump, who is mentally classified as a moron, would be surprised by.
The only reason MJ got into adult athletics was due to her family using highly competent people to ensure she didn't get banned for life for doping. Her high school coach, Johnnie Cochran of OJ Simpson fame, and CJ Hunter.

You will be delighted to know MJ was the greatest cheater in Track & Field history. The THG, she was taking is undetected by Gas Chromatography, the method in use during the Sydney 2000 Olympics, allowing her to take the maximum dose her body could withstand throughout the Sydney Olympics.
Flo Jo had no such possibility : all steroids available in 1988 were detectable by Gas Chromatography, and anyone using them had to maintain their physique without steroids.
The fact MJ was unable to beat 10.49, when Flo Jo was merely pleased to have won decisively, and stated in an interview immediately afterwards she had run faster, shows MJ was merely a doped up washout.
(Flo Jo achieved 10.16 in the 100m relay, it is apparent from videos of the relay, she did not accelerate until after she received the baton. Her true potential at 100m was 10.16. )

I felt so bad for Marion when this came out! She was the best female track athlete in high school her senior year. Besides track she was an outstanding basketball player. She didn't need any steroids! She got involved with the wrong guy CJ the wrestler who got her into steroids in their relationship. Whatever Marion is doing i hope she is happy, and living a great life. 💯👏

Did you never question why her first 2 husbands were heavy drug cheats ? Given MJs mediocre performance in cross fit, she was likely doping from age 12.
Her high school coach, was the coach of Evelyn Ashford, the 10.7 100m World Record holder, who sported a moustache. Additionally she changed her school districts : consistent with looking for coaches.
It took Johnnie Cochran, of OJ Simpson fame, to reduce her teenage lifetime ban for doping to 4 years. This was an insult to all honest athletes.
The solitary she suffered during her 6 month confinement did her a favour. It forced her to recognize she was on a bad path, which would lead to either many years of prison, or serious injury from involvement with the wrong type of people. Once she realized this, she recognized she had to change direction. It took her time to fully change direction but from all accounts she has. (She is married to a man, who has an excellent reputation for honesty. )

She is a great role model, obviously not regarding drug taking in sport - but in coming clean with it , admitting it and reinventing herself to live a better and more spiritual life of being truthful to yourself and others. Thats far more that can be said of many, many others not just in sport but in business as well particularly those in finance and commerce.

She has never admitted to doping. Her admission to being dishonest, meaning cheque fraud, was forced. Had she not done so, she would have been looking at years of prison.

Dang...I'm glad i saw this but feel sad for her, truly. She was and one of my favorite Olympians, still is. I think it's that smile...still is. Imagine all the athletes still denying drug use...walking around with no jail time and haven't lost a dime, homes, etc. Too many to mention...you can fill in the several blanks.

Wow, you lose your reputation, money, status, credibility, and your prized medals. Your name is removed from the record books. You tainted the athletes you performed with. Was it worth it? How could it be?! It breaks your heart.

The Love I have for Marion Jones will never die in me. As for me she's the best female athlete with a beautiful smile. I am happy that she chose happiness, peace of mind and family over a lifetime of regrets. Her admission of guilty is a lesson to all humans. I LOVE Marion.

This was very sad, that she had to endure all of this. They really stuck it to her because she's a black woman. How many times that Caucasian people use the same thing and never had to go through any of this.

She was impulsive. She said this herself when giving antidoping warnings to teens. She regrets not taking her lawyers advise, had she done so, she would likely have escaped any punishment. It amounts to not playing the game, the legal game in the US, smart enough.
(With the kind of money she had, she should have boxed clever, with the help of her lawyer, and gotten away clean.)

I was her biggest fan . I was so disappointed when it all became the truth. Life is hard no matter what you do,like she says it's important to stop and think about important decisions that you want to make. I wish her peace, love and health!
