Iman is absolutely stunning. She was always my favorite iconic model of all time. I sold her cosmetics as a independent beauty consultant back in the mid to late 90's. She is the "original" for making sure all skin types fit her beauty brand.
I will always admire Iman. I remember in the 2000’s being a young woman of color and the struggle to find the right shade of makeup. A middle eastern woman at a cosmetic store introduced me to her line of makeup for Women of Color . Iman understood what is was like to be dark with pink undertones , sand with orange undertones, or milk chocolate like me with yellow undertones. Her cosmetics were for women of color from Africa, Asia, London, America, the Islands ( Me) and back! She made us want to be as beautiful as her, and just as confident! Bendiciones Señora Iman ❤️ 🇧🇿🇯🇲🇸🇷
In my view, Iman is what all other models should attain to be like. She gave the Modelling Industry some semblance of credibility. So much for the days of the silent walking coat hangers! Iman had it all. A faultless figure, exotic features that made her an individual, that gorgeous mane of hair, such beauty that it was impossible to take a bad picture of her and the poise she possessed that made her appearance in Out of Africa unforgettable. She could make a potato sack look like a cocktail dress. I'm in awe at her intellect and all the languages she can speak. I was a witness to her modelling years and I doubt that there would be many people on this earth who didn't know the name Iman. She and Bowie were totally in love and it showed. I recently saw a small documentary where Iman spoke of their time together and confirmed that he truly was a gentleman. They looked so natural together that it's hard to understand why anyone would ever say they looked odd. If anyone came across as soul mates, David and Iman most certainly did. It broke my heart when he passed and I felt so bad for her loss. I truly enjoyed this video and enjoyed seeing the fashions that Iman wore during her years as a model which never look dated when she displayed them. Such a great example of a woman to look up to.🇦🇺💖🕊
Iman is beautiful, intelligent, and humble. And she has true class. That's something that is sadly lacking in the entertainment industry. No one will ever compare to Iman. I loved being able to look up to ladys like Iman and Cindy Crawford. May God bless Iman and her daughters always.
Iman and David Bowie were viewed as odd because of the diverse work occupations and what they represented. He was a rocker “ Ziggy Stardust”. She was an elegant sophisticated model. People err in labeling each other because of their career choices. That’s what people did with them. Compared what they saw on the outside. Sad. Evidently the two people we saw through the lens of the camera, was not the couple behinds closed doors in the comfort and intimate moments of their lives 💕💕
@@InspiredByEbonyLove I agree that many women from the countries within Africa are extremely beautiful but it's that 'x-factor' that is required to make that person into something special. I'm afraid you have taken the word "exoctic" out of context and applied a new politically correct assertion to it instead. I never stated anything about her being "foreign", only you did that. Anyone from anywhere on the planet can be described as looking exotic, it has nothing to do with where you are from.
@@jamessanders8895 You've summed her up wonderfully - "true class". Every single photograph taken of Iman shows this without any effort needed. She exudes this from every fibre of her being. No greater example of what young women should look towards. I also wish her well, her family too, into the future. She will always be part of history and so will her love story with David Bowie.💖

I’m Somali too but I never actually knew there was a Somali super model like Iman until quite recently, only Somali models I’ve seen were the Instagram/influencer models
Wow. Thank you for the lesson, I never knew the correct way to refer to someone born in Somalia. The things we tend to not know is amazing. Thanks again.
Iman had the exact silouet of a beautiful Barbie doll. Apparently Iman was a gifted woman in every way and did not let her giftedness go to waste. She is to be commended for fulfilling all or most of her potential. She did what she was created to do. She was a good representative of her people as well. She maintained her dignity all along the way. Very admirable.
A beautiful and extraordinary woman. Her background being born into an educated upper middle-class family, helped expose her to certain opportunities... Anyway, in my mind she is Queen Nefertiti. Her and David were a gorgeous couple
She’s truly an elegant and graceful woman. She commands and exudes a sense of confidence and humility all at once. As she explains that she suffered from insecurities, one can understand where that humility comes from. She’s much more than external aesthetics.
Iman is a beautiful woman inside and out. Intelligence, class and grace is Iman. I started reading fashion magazines when I was really young back in the seventies and eighties. Iman's beauty was breathtaking but you could tell there was more to her than just a pretty face or gorgeous body. This woman also has a beautiful mind and soul. I always had a lot of respect for her. She paved the way for women of color to have a voice and true beauty comes in every skin tone. Also her and her late husband David Bowie were true soul mates. This beautiful woman is a true icon in every sense of the word.
Iman is not just beautiful, she is also very strong and intelligent woman. And you Karine is an amazing story teller. I can listen to you whole day. Thanks for honoring these amazing women! They deserve to be archived.
Elelelelel🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴 I love being Somali man. It’s funny bc I discovered David Bowies music when in was 15 in 2015, didn’t know they were married till bout 2 years after
Iman is an important part of my life. She is the one who revealed to me my own beauty by being the first black model I had ever seen for a cosmetic line dedicated to black people. I am From France which has taken the longest time to acknowledge our black beauty. In the early 80 it was impossible to find any French make up that would suit us. Iman has highly contributed in the promotion of black beauty and models like Mounia, kadidja, Naomie Campbell………may they never forget.
WOW Iman charged a stranger she just met her whole college tuition for some photographs that weren’t risqué. She really knew her value. Now a days its pictures of women everywhere with their ass out for free. The modeling world and photography profession will never be the same bc women everywhere are so easily accessible for free and small-paying modeling jobs. The World of Supermodels is over. Now its instagram models with extreme photoshopping and plastic surgery, these women get switched out quickly for a new face within a year. Unfortunately instagram modeling isn’t really as iconic as being a Worldwide Supermodel continuously working for high fashion brands.
@@V.E.R.O. Yes I understand that but Supermodels isn’t as “popular” and in demand bc of the over-saturation of women online “modeling.” Society does not focus on the Supermodels like how Tyra, Naomi, Giselle, and Iman had the majority of the spotlight during their run. I can’t name 1 famous Supermodel. The world has changed due to social media. Movies and music has changed too bc ppl watch movies from home. Its all about clout chasing. Supermodels with that unique look are not really iconic anymore, the ones back then were bc most of these girls want to look like Instagram models so the market is more heavy on that side. These companies save more hiring women online, and its so many women advertising themselves they come and go they don’t have longevity. Kind of like how it was hard to get in the music business unless you really had TALENT nowadays anybody can tap their fingers on a computer keyboard, add autotune to their voice, and make a quick hit that does not last long and its not iconic.
I was a teen in the 80s, when I saw Iman she was gorgeous, stunning, exotic, when I saw her in MICHEAL Jackson video as Nefertiti I was yes you really could be believe she was a Queen

‘Unspoiled African’ 🙄 the fetishization of black Africans is exhausting- don’t get me wrong, she’s absolutely beautiful, but I can’t help but feel like lots of these white people who promoted her saw her as a ‘slender swan-like white woman with black skin’ who couldn’t help where she was born, which in itself is offensive. Her success is deserved because she worked hard for it, and she’s beautiful and I’m proud of all that she accomplished, especially for black women in the beauty/ modeling industry
@@overcomerbtboj Oh honey they fetishize all women from. Sweden to Somalia from Thailand to Tanzania from Ukraine to the Cherokee . I am hearing ya! Blessings and peace.
I always wanted to be Iman, she is the blueprint of beauty. Paving the way for Somali women to dominate the modelling industry i.e. Ugbad Abdi, Fatima Siad, Abla Osman, Yasmin Warsame, Halima Aden, Ikram Abdi etc.. Fun fact: Somalia produces the most supermodels of any country in Africa. That smile, those eyes, that neck, that luminous skin, that statuesque physique. True pearls of the Indian ocean 🌊
I loved the story of how she and Bowie met. They talked the night away at a party and at the end of their conversation, they said they knew they would be a couple, like love at first sight. I know he thought she was beautiful but he spent the evening trying to get into her mind, not her pants, and I think that meant a lot to her, that he saw her as a real person, not just a conquest.
I am fortunate to work in the fashion industry for 30 years...I consider myself blessed with what I learned and what I have been able to accomplish...and It's wonderful to see women like Iman do so much with their lives. I continue to live a glamour life which includes Iman 's fashion line...I always purchase a few pieces every year looking good even during the pandemic in Zoom meetings!
Stunning model! She was every fashion photographer’s dream! How she used her body in all those poses were breathtaking! She was a SUPER supermodel in her days indeed! Thanks for sharing this video!
Beautifully spoken! I've always had a big love for this Sistah! East African people often tend to be naturally very beautiful in appearance. Iman's look and vibe were so spot on, I honestly believe that the ancient people of Kemet and northern African countries looked more like these people.
It is because East Africans(Liye Kebede, Waris Dirie) are built naturally slimmer. I worked in Cape Town airport and there is an Ethiopian airline flying regularly. ✈️
One of the best videos of Supermodel Imam ever🍀💜 I hope you'll be able to make video about Waris Dirie, a famous Somali model who later became advocate against FGM. She even wrote few books about her childhood to her journey as a model and later as activist against FGM.
I used to LOVE The Face of Africa, which was something like a Ms. Universe competition for gorgeous African women all over the continent. And a lot of the contestants stories about getting discovered, sounded like Iman's.
I used to love Face of Africa. One of my High School friends was selected for the competition and actually had a very successful modelling career. Not as big as Iman or Oluchi but still very successful.
@@Whitechapelchap That was almost 30 years ago. I cannot remember her real name 😣😣. We used to called her Giraffe because she was sooo tall and skinny. All I remember is that shortly after Face of Africa she moved to Europe and I would see her on FashionTV doing runway shows.
She is my favourite too. For me she stood out from all the other models. Pure class , brains and beauty words can not describe. No wonder people thought she was a princess.
Iman is so regal dignified and was successful in her humanitarian work business and fashion too like no other model even models who hate each other respect Iman so does the entire fashion industry. She truly is the Queen of fashion!
That interviewer asking if she would lose her accent irritated me. Why would she? You could understand her perfectly. We’re all supposed to sound the same way?
When I first saw Iman in a video years ago, I could not believe my eyes! I thought to myself, "This is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen! And who has a neck like this? No one!" To me, she truly is THE most beautiful woman in the world. And on top of that, a smart business woman. Anything she has made, I have purchased. And it's all made with great quality. Honestly. I have a pair of pants I bought from her line that are probably 10 years old and they still look good.
Growing up, I was mesmerized by her...in retrospect it was the fact I felt the actual respect for her and wanted to be be that. Like her a person to unite understanding of what meant regal, Beautiful a piece of invaluable art that every human is. Diana Ross another. Cicely Tyson another. These women were beyond inspiration, they were truth of what it is to be a black woman. Class, grace, intelligence Beauty..art. and so much more.

Also her relationship with Bowie was couple goals, they clearly were soulmates and I'm so glad she got to experience that, although it's devastating that she lost him.

Thank you for this one. I love this woman and so admire what she's done after her modeling career. I still wear her makeup. She has made a quality product that is very much affordable. My niece resembles her. PURE CLASS ACT👑
I have purchased her clothing from hsn. Her line of clothing is beautifully made and no spare of expense. However, unlike others, she does not price gouge. The materials and colors are vibrant and made just as you would expect her to. Highly recommend her line.

As a Somali woman Iman has always been an inspiration for me growing up.
I came to know her from Michael Jackson’s video and thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world!! Then learning she was married to David Bowie my first actor crush :) I was just amazed .. 🥰❤️❤️❤️
That music video was my introduction to her! She’s beautiful
She literally is drop dead gorgeous! That’s how I was introduced to her too.
That's where I saw her too!
I felt like I've seen her before and I asked my mom. She said that's Iman and my mom had a magazine with her in it!! I loved her energy. Iman, Dorothy Dandridge, Naomi Campbell, and Diahann Carroll were my first loves. They are also how I grew up loving my skin!❤
I used to use her makeup all the time. I hate that it isn't in stores anymore. I had an almost perfect shade match with hers.
@@ShanyShannon Did you know she has a clothing line on HSN? Iman has great taste in clothes and bags. Have a beautiful and blessed day!
Iman understood what is was like to be dark with pink undertones
, sand with orange undertones, or milk chocolate like me with yellow undertones. Her cosmetics were for women of color from Africa, Asia, London, America, the Islands ( Me) and back!
She made us want to be as beautiful as her, and just as confident!
Bendiciones Señora Iman ❤️
🇧🇿🇯🇲🇸🇷
Yes for the milk chocolate with yellow undertones ✔️
Such a great example of a woman to look up to.🇦🇺💖🕊
“ exotic”??? She looks like many women in the Horn of Africa. Nothing strange or foreign about that if you’ve dem it. She’s human
Yaaay! I just got home in time to watch this and relax. I’m Somali and look up to Iman so much. Thank you for covering her. She was the first to help revolutionize the make up industry as well. Love your content love 🙌🏾
Ps: most people don’t know but it’s Somali ** not Somalian. 🇸🇴🎉
Iman is intelligent business woman.
She’s a boss lady!
She's the definition of a real model. A role model and a beautiful woman inside and out.
The amount of Somali women who are killing it in modelling because of Iman is insane. 🥰
God bless Somalia. 🇸🇴
A beautiful and extraordinary woman. Her background being born into an educated upper middle-class family, helped expose her to certain opportunities... Anyway, in my mind she is Queen Nefertiti. Her and David were a gorgeous couple
Nerfertiti indeed
Iman to me has always been the definition of black excellence, intelligence, class, and beauty. She is so humble yet regal
EXACTLY
She’s truly an elegant and graceful woman. She commands and exudes a sense of confidence and humility all at once. As she explains that she suffered from insecurities, one can understand where that humility comes from. She’s much more than external aesthetics.
IMAN is the original IT girl, she’s an icon only by her first name! She’s an inspiration to many generation of women.
It’s funny bc I discovered David Bowies music when in was 15 in 2015, didn’t know they were married till bout 2 years after
My grandma used to babysit her back in Somalia when she was young
Stop fucking lieing lamo
Iman is an important part of my life. She is the one who revealed to me my own beauty by being the first black model I had ever seen for a cosmetic line dedicated to black people. I am From France which has taken the longest time to acknowledge our black beauty. In the early 80 it was impossible to find any French make up that would suit us. Iman has highly contributed in the promotion of black beauty and models like Mounia, kadidja, Naomie Campbell………may they never forget.
I love that you now include “receipts” in your videos. It makes the storytelling a little more authentic.
PS: I’m still waiting on your Debbie Allen video!
Facts
Now that's a boss move
The IG supermodels are generic, you have to have a unique look to make it into high fashion.
I peaked that too 😁

Iman was absolutely breathtaking the first time I saw her in Jermaine Jackson's video "Do whatcha do". She was already an icon at first sight to me.
Great video Karine. Nicely done.
She looks stunning breathtaking fr 💯

I love David Bowie and Iman's romance; it is so beautiful and adorable :,)
Being like Iman is life goals. Beauty, dignity, intelligence, grace and humility.
I just LOVE how you really do your research and not just saying, “famous photographer…” but, naming them as well.. plus, how you Beautiful tell the stories of those Iconic figures!!!
Your voice is soothing and enjoyable to listen to…

‘Unspoiled African’ 🙄 the fetishization of black Africans is exhausting- don’t get me wrong, she’s absolutely beautiful, but I can’t help but feel like lots of these white people who promoted her saw her as a ‘slender swan-like white woman with black skin’ who couldn’t help where she was born, which in itself is offensive. Her success is deserved because she worked hard for it, and she’s beautiful and I’m proud of all that she accomplished, especially for black women in the beauty/ modeling industry
I caught that too- I’m sensitive as a woman of color ( not AA) to women of color being fetishized as well and being called “exotic”
@@overcomerbtboj Oh honey they fetishize all women from. Sweden to Somalia from Thailand to Tanzania from Ukraine to the Cherokee .
I am hearing ya!
Blessings and peace.
The European man who 'discovered' her, said that Iman was a "white woman dipped in chocolate". Definitely fetishism.
WHAT does that even mean?
Exactly, hearing how they were making up fake stories about her and describing her just made me very uncomfortable and is just so weird and gross
She’s so gorgeous and has such a captivating aura about her!

Exactly and there is lady from 🇹🇿 Tanzania name Miriam odemba very beautiful too from East Africa
TO SUM IT UP, IMAN IS SIMPLY ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MODELS EVER, AND EVERYWHERE SHE GOES SHE MAKES A STATEMENT OF GLAMOUR OF WHO SHE REPRESENTS!!😊
She gave me such pride growing up as a tall Somali woman we’re the same height ❤️❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The union of Iman and David Bowie still inspires me to this very day. She's the ultimate goddess of true class and style.👑🔥💎♥️
They had/have a soul connection ❤️
Totally 💯 Agree ❤🎉
Iman is Truly a Beautiful 🤩 Doll ❤
Iman is a queen. I agree she's the absolute most beautiful woman I have ever seen. She has a beautiful spirit and a great sense of humor. Pure class.

Iman looks so amazing even now. She carries herself with so much class. I cannot wait to watch this.
Even looking at her now she is stunning and sublime with no exaggeration
Beautifully spoken! I've always had a big love for this Sistah! East African people often tend to be naturally very beautiful in appearance. Iman's look and vibe were so spot on, I honestly believe that the ancient people of Kemet and northern African countries looked more like these people.
The men are beautiful too :) I watched a documentary on Somali people and they are just beautiful!!
They are very beautiful, almost unreal 😍
Yes. And for me, that's the case throughout the horn of Africa and all the tribes that migrated from there in modern times.
@rabbit It’s really not a generalisation East Africans or horn Africans are truly beautiful.
It is because East Africans(Liye Kebede, Waris Dirie) are built naturally slimmer.
I worked in Cape Town airport and there is an Ethiopian airline flying regularly. ✈️
@@zigzig9938 it's not only the slim built their features their hair and the Somalis are blessed with height

I hope you'll be able to make video about Waris Dirie, a famous Somali model who later became advocate against FGM. She even wrote few books about her childhood to her journey as a model and later as activist against FGM.
beyond gorgeous God took her time making her
I used to LOVE The Face of Africa, which was something like a Ms. Universe competition for gorgeous African women all over the continent. And a lot of the contestants stories about getting discovered, sounded like Iman's.

Wow! She is so smart and calculated, I love it.
Also her relationship with Bowie was couple goals, they clearly were soulmates and I'm so glad she got to experience that, although it's devastating that she lost him.
