You can be unequally yoked even in a christian relationship. Sometimes the other person is not spiritually on the same level as you are. And that becomes a problem.
Yes I like how I got a new perspective on the unequally yoked when he mentioned basically will the other hold you back or stifle your progress in pulling for God .

Also I like how he differentiated dating verse courtship. You can go on a date with your friend in my opinion. But courting is dating with the intent of marriage.

Great video, excellent points and scripture-based evidence. However, it came a little late for me! After 3 years of dating, I married a nonbeliever in 2010. Before our first date, I let him know that God was my priority and that if I ever had children, they would be raised in church. I prayed for him to find God every day, and a whopping 7 years later, he did! He is an excellent example of a good, Christian man for his sons, and I couldn't be prouder of my husband. Now we pray daily, together, for his parents to find faith as well. It is true that you cannot change your partner, but we serve a faithful and redeeming God, and I am so thankful to finally be "evenly yoked".

I was a non believer was was dating a Christian. And I will admit as a non believer i did do things that were not good and he didn't like me doing like getting drunk and smoking but I believe we were brought together so he could teach me about Jesus and God and who he really is, his love, mercy and grace for us and now I am a believer and we are married and we both want God in our relationship
Now I am working on not doing those things anymore and what a real woman is in Christ.

And this exactly why I don't think we should push someone away specifically because they don't believe in God. We are taught to love everyone, believer or non. Dating someone that has a different view than you can also strengthen your relationship with God because you stick up for him and you find arguments that support him. If you do date somebody, just make sure that their views do not influence yours. If they do influence yours, make sure they influence them in a way that makes your face stronger, not weaker
I can very much relate to u. I was an unbeliever and my ex was a christian. But truly the relationship didn't go well because of the differences. Our relationship went downhill, it even became idolatrous. And that made me seek God. So we decided to call it quits and surrendered our lives to God. Although i became a believer in the process, i still wouldn't advise people to date unbelievers. What happened to me was a work of God. He alone can transform people. Let's not put our hope on our situation/people. Instead before we enter in a relationship, we could pray for wisdom. Like Lord if You wills this person to be in my life, touch his/her heart, reveal yourself to Him for our relationship to bring glory to Your name.
it definitely is complicated. i wasn't a believer, but my boyfriend was. we both came from christian families so we started going out. but after a while, religion started becoming a bigger and bigger issue. he was constantly trying to save my soul and i kept being stubborn and always feeling insulted that he couldn't leave my beliefs alone, but here we are, over a year of dating later, and he's managed to bring me to God and the church. very happy. :)
Everyone please take my advice. We in life will always be unequally yoked with either our friends, family, and loved ones. It us believers to be the bible they haven’t read yet. And if this person seems to be WILLING to learn about your faith and go to church with you (before dating) then give them a chance because although I was talking to an unbeliever, I learned so much about my God by showing them. Don’t convert them, show them why you believe in this. And let your actions do all the talking(: If God wants to change their hearts for you, he will.

A cursory study shows that Christian women outnumber Christian men by a solid majority in the US and Canada. That means there are not enough Christian men to go around for the Christian women who want them. Statistically mixed relationships can and do work so an atheist is a viable choice in some situations. Also it's far better to marry a kind, loyal, thoughtful atheist of good character than a Christian who lacks those qualities. When looking for a mate there are many other things to consider besides religion.

Jeanette Ferreira it is! It can be very tough especially when you love someone so much. I'm still stuck on someone but you can't move on with your life unless you commit to letting go. If God can let go we can too and that's what I try to always remember! God has a reason for everything and I wouldn't be hurting if there was no reason.

I'm a Christian and I started dating a non Christian girl. For about 3 years I believe I was lead astray because of that. But now Jesus lifted me up and I'm "back in the game" and I believe he used me also to bring my girlfriend to Jesus.
The point is. It is a risky thing to do because you can be lead astray easily in my opinion and I don't advice no one to do it.

I recently got out of a relationship with a non believer, it was so hard because I felt like I had to hide my faith from him. When I was a little bit open with him about it he would change the conversation or let it fly over his head. I eventually started to chose him over church, and then got really lazy to do my devotionals. Sometimes it does work for some people but man it was so hard for me.

Dating a non believer is one of the hardest most painful things ever. I agree the purpose of dating should be pushing towards marriage and even if your nonbeliever partner has the same belief, if God isn't included in your relationship, it just won't work no matter how much love and respect there is. God is a jealous God and if he isn't number one in both of our lives like Jon said, our partner becomes our idol and then God will tear that relationship apart. I'm speaking from experience, I'm a Christian and I dated a Muslim man and I thought if I prayed and prayed Jesus would reveal himself to him and then he'll convert and our relationship would be perfect in God's eyes. I thought if I taught him some things about the Bible that it will plant a seed and he'll eventually come around. Boy was I wrong... so I think save yourself the pain brothers and sisters in Christ. We are meant to love like Jesus and if you are dating someone that doesn't even believe in Jesus, then it won't work, never ever. They won't be able to love you the same.

That's the problem, right from the beginning if it's so important for you for the other person to believe in Jesus and God well make sure to start dating someone who does. I think that dating someone shouldn't about religion. Dating someone should be about love above all. You don't choose who you want to date because he or she shares the same religion than you, you actually don't choose at all. Moreover, if Christians only date Christians and Muslims only Muslims and Jews only Jews ect. how is the world gonna be ? To me, the most important is to find someone you love and who loves you back and that your love is stronger than everything, stronger than differences ; that your love can actually turn your differences into a strenght. Dating doesn't mean matching, dating means sharing.

Definitely understand your view but the differences in belief can and will cause conflict in how the two deal with life situations. If we can't agree or build in our faith together than eventually we'll have to always agree to disagree without ever finding common ground on issues or problems that we both may avoid because of our beliefs. The Bible does not talk about dating, so it is a gray area. If you are married to an unbeliever that is not a sin either. So dating an unbeliever cannot be a sin, but it can lead you to sin since they are of the world.
2 Corinthians 6:14 is not talking about dating or marriage specifically, it is talking about idolatry (which the Corinthians struggled with). If being unequally yoked had to do with your relationships, Paul would have told them to divorce their unbelieving partners, but notice he says the exact opposite. Paul says that being unequally yoked is like Christ partnering with the devil, so if it were about relationships this would mean leave the devil! That would also mean you should apply that verse to every other aspect of your life, work, friends, family, etc. But clearly that isn't the point.
There's also the other issue of you cannot ever know if someone is a Christian or not. You can make your best guess but ultimately that is between them and God.
I once dated a non believer and she came to know Christ and be baptized. I don't look back at my relationship and think "thank God I was sinning so she could become a Christian". Continual, unrepentant sin, doesn't lead to good things for us. God wouldn't have you keep sinning, until it is not a sin anymore. That's because dating (in a vaccuum) isn't a sin, and marriage or being married is not a sin!
I am not here advocating that any Christian should go out and find some secular guy or gal. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do your best to find a Christian. Trust me, you'll connect with them far more than you do anyone else. I've had super close non believing friends for years! But my Christian friends I've had for only 1, and I already feel just as close to them!!!! That's because your believing friends understand who you really are!!!! Your unbelieving friends can not understand that!
If you are currently dating a non believer, do as I did, and make sure you are pursuing God and being a light to them always!!!!!

i am dating a non believer for 6 months now honestly it is not easy i love him so much what is funny is he treats me good i know he doesn't cheat He even understands that i can not have sex outside marriage i have been praying to God to see signs that will give a reason to leave him, when i end things he keeps coming back of course i take him back because i love him ,Deep down i want a Godly man He does not drink nor smoke ,He has such a great personality but this is hard for me i feel like am sinning .

@@thecia4493 I dated an unbeliever too..I would say that it may be best to walk away from the relationship and allow God to work on you and this person and either two things will happen: God will either supernaturally change this person and then supernaturally bring you two back together or he may lead you to someone else. In the end God needs to get the glory.

I just left a relationship with a non believer but I’m honestly still having a hard time accepting it was the right decision to make. We both initially believed in God but as time went on a lot happened in her life and when she recently lost her grandmother she decided that she doesn’t believe in god anymore and doesnt have any interest. This was heartbreaking to hear but I knew I couldn’t move forward with the relationship. Apart of me feels like maybe this was just a rough period in her life and she’ll find her way back to god but I also understand that I can’t stay mainly because of that.

The answer is greatly appreciated and detailed, and overall a wise answer. One member of our church named Jim, teaches Bible study Sunday evenings, he told us a story similar to this. A family member of his in the past was attracted to this girl during his college years. He asked her out, she said no, he asked why, she said that she was a Christian and that the Bible says not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. He thought it was ridiculous. The professor agreed with the woman and encouraged the man to read Scripture for a week. In that week, he got saved, and I think four more got saved including Jim. All because the woman said no, multiple people got saved. She took the radical approach much like Jesus being very radical in Luke. I agree it takes wisdom and there are key points to address, and it's clear that being radical is very effective. :) Although it may not always work. But when dealing with people who have a free will, the outcome is usually unpredictable to us.

I was with someone for 2 years. I was engaged and everything. But he was my #1 focus. So God has ways of getting you straightened out. I ended things with him and now I'm happily single and with my children :)
