It's a perfectly crafted pop music song. Was never intented for a single but they finally got "pressed" and released it due to huge public demand from the Aussies who went crazy there after the song got exposed and started insistently asking for it. After this,RCA gave it a 7 inch release and it hit No 1 there for 10 weeks! Then UK Epic record label also released it and then got released everywhere .Rest is history.

I’m not a huge fan of Mamma Mia but it was really a highlight at the Voyage concerts. I highly recommend going if you can. It’s a technological wonder. Honestly you’ll be blown away by the lights, the stage, the music and just the sheer magic involved in it all.

Love "Mamma Mia" - it's a deceptively complex and addictive pop/glam/rock song with top-notch hooks, melodies and a great chorus. The instrumentation, with the distinctive marimba/guitar riff in the intro and superb keyboard, drumming and Rutger Gunnarsson's great bass line make this one of ABBA's best.

Hope this doesn't get blocked like the last one. Great song, like nearly all of theirs. Fun-ish fact. This took the number one spot in the UK form Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen which included the lyric Mamma Mia.

Abba/Waterloo. Not a slow song but it was Abba's first top 40 hit in the USA!

Actually top 10 there(peaked at no6) in a market that Eurovision song contest meant nothing. So all of it's USA success was based on the song's own strength.

I'm so glad that You follow a reaction to ABBA with "Mamma Mía"
"Mamma Mía" for me is 'pure pop'
If someone ask me for what is a pop song, i give this song
"Mamma Mía" have all elements: catchy melodies, more hooks, beauty voices and harmonies, it's funny ... It's a great song!
There is an iconic video for which in Australia they asked that "Mamma Mía" be released as a single
They did it in 1975 and it was #1 in Australia for 10 weeks and ABBAmania woke up there
When the single was released in England it had a slow but steady rise to #1 and from there toppling none other than 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen ( in January 31, 1976)
"Mamma Mia" together with their predecessor "S.O.S." are the songs that gave ABBA its musical identity as a pop group (as Björn Ulveaus words)
With both songs began ABBA's great series of more than 20 worldwide hits for six consecutive years 1975/1982 included:
    Fernando
    The name of the game
    Take a chance on me
    Summer Night City
    Chiquitita
    The winner takes it all
    Super Trouper
(I see that all these you didn't react; all these have TV performances that wasn't blocked the videos)
I hope to see you in another reaction to ABBA
    My best regards from
    Buenos Aires Argentina
P.S.: after ABBA's split in 1982, in the 90s return music ABBA with the recopilation album ABBA Gold, and then the songwriters Björn & Benny wrote a musical "Mamma Mía" and two movies "Mamma Mía" with all ABBA songs

Benny and Björn didn’t “write” the Mamma Mia musical. They agreed to let their songs be used in it and were producers for the show, but the originator of the idea was Judy Craymor, while the plot was written by Catherine Johnson.

I agree that Abba's slower songs are probably the best. You've been quiet recently. Hope to see more content soon. 🙈

I love ABBA but I don’t think this song is one of the best of them actually. It is more like a symbole of them and their success, from the theatre and movies. Two of their better quicker song - Gimme, Gimme, Gimme or Lay all your love on me. My fav. of them totally: The Name Of The Game - funky and romantic.
