Great to be watching a man who knows his stuff. Ten odd yrs ago I watched the same man on the axe and have been addicted ever since. Man I've learnt a lot. Thank you Billy. Cheers from HB NZ
Whenever you upload a video you make me so happy regardless of my mood, good or bad! I watch your videos and smile like a little kid without being able to stop😁!! I like your videos so much that I can say that I have been following you for 2 years, a few months ago I started watching your videos from the oldest to the newest because each one is just perfect! Thank you very much billy for the tips in the logging community and of course in LIFE!! The videos that are like this, i.e. 30-40 minutes, are even nicer because I enjoy you longer!! I hope you have a great time and that you and your family are in good health! Now I can say that I feel you are my own person and let me know you through TH-cam! I love you Billy for everything be well!!
Love seeing the splitting videos again. They make me a bit sad because my body is too broken to do it myself but they're also peaceful and satisfying in a way I can't define. There's joy in watching someone doing something they both love and excel at.
just moved to an apartment with a wood burning fireplace and its the first time in my life at 34 that i have the agency and oppertunity to learn about chopping, splitting, making fire as adult. as a kid- sure I saw my dad do it, but he never taught me. so I feel blessed to live in a time some one like yourself with so much passion for this can share this with the world and I can just sit back and observe and take what i see and apply it. thanks for the videos!
Thank you for this video. Just watching you split wood is an educational experience. Obviously, you have some very good axes as well as tons of experience.
That's why I have 8 and I use them all differently. I can almost smell that wood. Just staying out there and having the peace that comes with spending time with that wood is really a blessing. Truly an inspiration for the soul. .
Your interjection around the 29 minute mark about the all encompasing satisfaction from putting up wood with an axe is spot on. When people hear that using an axe is how i put up all my wood this way they think im crazy... Id go crazy if i Didnt. These are the videos when i stop in to see how youre doing. My Wood Bullit ships this week. Can't wait!!!!! Live strong and swing a good axe!
always a pleasure to see this videos and you. Really love that happy and kind behaviour you have. And its so nice to get infos for splitting wood in an easyer way and learn profiles. Greetings from Germany
Splitting wood since about 1969 when my dad taught me. But it's was always a different thing for me. I never split with an ax. Where I am we never used soft wood for firewood, it was always hard wood, Beach, cherry, oak, maple and a couple others. As a kid I spent many hours with a sledge and steel wedges splitting knotty wood. I never remember it being easy, and I do remember getting blisters on my hands when the splitting season was getting started. lol I am wondering how many other people used to split hard wood back in the day using steel wedges and a sledge?
I like the way when you do the sexy little shimmy with the wood you repeat it several times so we all enjoy it again! I'm chopping firewood at the moment and thinking about axes etc. My stuff is even more gnarly hardwood than yours though, and I am rather older!
The emerald ash borers killed off our ash trees so that's our firewood for the next few years. It's easy to split with it's straight grain until you get to the numerous knots. They are like iron! Even a maul has trouble getting thru. I trim down around the knots and leave the bigger ones for over nighters.
I love splitting wood as well, but am having to lay low for a bit due to some trigger finger issues on my left hand and numbness/tingling in my right hand. Sucks getting a little bit older and not being able to go all out all the time. Glad you are getting some good therapy, Buckin!
3:52 I was just working on the haft of a very nice Dandy-nong (Real name = Dandenong) that I have. 100% user, no stamp, nothing. But the profil and the height of the head don’t lie. I could tell from the stump which one of your axes was a Dandy too. Mine is a worn one, 3 lbs and 7oz, still got some remaining of red paint on it, an absolute beauty for a user. I hope to finish it soon enough to be able to swing it during the Christmas break 🎄 ! Salute from Québec Buckin’ 🫡
hey buckin I was driving while listening to this and I noticed each axe has a different sound when striking the wood . all wonderful sounds but different . excellent video !
I would love to buy your sweatshirts but have issues with the ones everybody sells! As far as yours it doesn't have a zipper in the front. We'uns older folks don't want our chicks to have to pull this item off after we use it? I have worked for a living, and use a sweatshirt for centuries, if it doesn't zip. for medium to semi-medium, to cold all the way zipped, for the drive to work, when the thermostat in the truck suddenly needs a new OEM one? A pull over at 68 challenges me more than a sharp chainsaw blade? Loved this video you 6 million dollar Man, but some of us need a sweatshirt with a Hood, that unfortunately wood split your Logo in Half? Love Ya Stay as great as you are Billy.
Nice axes billy! I use a old plumb 3lb axe but I need to get a splitting axe. I use a 8 pound mintcraft maul it works well and the fiberglass handles last forever. But gets heavy after awhile. I've only had one come apart in the last 15 years still on the second one I bought.
I found an old French curve ax handle and loved the feel of it. Something about it made the swing feel much more powerful and just a joy/ comfort to have in the hands versus a straight or slight curve handle. The wrist flick hit split is a touch I haven't quite got the hang of. A short tutorial on that would be nice. Definitely an art to it, but timing seems to be crucial. Any tips would be appreciated.
fiskars are far best of any because handle cannot be damaged while this wooden handles and even those protected with metal are damaged by time or depend on amount of splitting
Hey Buckin’ In this video you mentioned that you put the ashes from the stove in the garden? Does the help with keeping the grass greener or vegetables growing better? Stay safe, love wins ❤
Ugh, I wish I could use an axe. I live in the midwest, and none of the hardwoods I burn split for a darn. Oak splits good - but I prefer to use a 6lb or 8lb maul. We have green ash, maple, etc... but those end up so knotted up that beating wedges seems to work the best. My new axe will be a skid loader with a hydraulic splitter attachment.
They are quite similar profiles but the bullet does release nice there was allot of thought in it . But Jeffrey’s works great any axe with a similar profile to these will split ok . But what you noticed is the secret sauce
Billy, ive always used an 8lb maul for firewood, and im proud to say that it still has the original handle since 2001 when i purchased it. Ive probably split 80 cord with it. As im getting older, it is much harder to use it. I picked up a Stihl splitting Axe, but what do you think would work as well, but save on the weight?
Hey Billy I've been watching you since you were on discovery channel. I really get into your little sidelines about treating yourself correctly. I've got a problem with a Homelite 410 the guy said it would not stay running because crank case seal is bad. Is there any place to get parts like this? I'm in Wisconsin? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Dave.
I enjoy splitting wood by hand also but I’ve always used a maul. I would love to try using an axe. Do you have any recommendations for a vintage axe that I could find on eBay for splitting?
I use my fiskars 6 pound maul the most, I had the 8 pounder and sold it, the 6 is big enough. I have a dozen axes to pick from, the old double bits are fun to swing but the fiskars gets used when I need to get sh*t done.
Personally I gotta have an axe that sticks. It nice to throw it around instead of bending over to move the wood. I’ve found out as well that if it won’t stick you are basically crushing the wood and hoping it opens up a crack whereas an axe that sticks enters the wood and causes it crack. I’m just not a fan of an axe that won’t enter into the wood.
every load of bugged up beech i get , i laff thinkin' of you just poppin' wood apart and my 15ton hydraulik is near PEELING thru the twiste grain . but , occasionally i get a nice Ash or clear frozen beech just pops apart and i can enjoy the split until shoulders "aks" for a break 😮😅
After swing what your axes do I’m not sure you can consider mine axes I have a 3.5 pound wedge banger works good for me and a council tool 5 pounder on a BBR HANLE that’s my best
Buckin it's great to see you back doing what you enjoy 🪵🪓 not everyone is cut out to be a ball point labourer and believe me paperwork does my head in so do what you enjoy 👍
😊😊 HI BUCKIN when U take the ashes up out of the wood 🪵 😊 stove make sure U put them in a bucket 🪣 😊 of water 💧 😊 make sure they are OUT 😊😊 OMG 11 11 2O24
got a few chopping profile axes, but I need a good splitting axe hopefully I will find a head soon, but what pattern besides a tassie is your favorite for splitting?
Buckin, I got a Garry oak coming down because it’s old and now a hazard to the house. I’m gonna need an axe when it does. Do you have a recommendation for an axe profile and where or who I can get one from?
Hi Buckin! I want to switch from Fiskars to something with a wooden handle. It will be used mostly for splitting. Is arvika 5star a good choice or would you recommend something else?

Been chopping firewood for 47 yrs used mostly Mauls 6lb & I bought a Fiskars x27 last year & I like it!
Try the Fiskars x36
@@michaelh5942 Yes! I have that one aswell love it!
Love my x25 and x27 . Great 🪓 axes
Who knew? Choppin wood was such a joy inspiring art form. I learned so much by watching your manly skills. Thank you.

Great video, lovely to watch some
Honest hard work and humble advice and experience being shared.

What a great day split wood all day and got to watch you split wood tonight thanks Buckin.
You bet
32:56 - A tutorial on chopping blocks would be great! There ain't nothing like your Wood Bullet!!
Thanks Buckin
I’ll see what I can do
Splitting wood since about 1969 when my dad taught me. But it's was always a different thing for me. I never split with an ax. Yes,used wedges and a sledgehammer many times splitting years ago..usually knotty iron bark or grey box
I like the way when you do the sexy little shimmy with the wood you repeat it several times so we all enjoy it again! I'm chopping firewood at the moment and thinking about axes etc. My stuff is even more gnarly hardwood than yours though, and I am rather older!
Outdoor therapy good for the mind even though one would not think of hard work as relaxing. May your life journey continue to smooth out. ♥️👍
Thx Marto
Good work man.. here is a brazilian lumberjack I apreeciate his videos. Keep make it!!
I would like so much to get a temporary job in American or Canadá. Someone here know any boss to hire me? Thanks ;)

Great video again! Would love to see a boot tour video!
Thanks
Buckin, very beautiful pile of wood 👍💪😮😊❤
Lovee the look of your wood bullet. I wish they were a little less expensive. I'll stick with my 'sticky' collins for now.
Good to see ya swinging’ axes. Healthy movement!
I love splitting wood as well, but am having to lay low for a bit due to some trigger finger issues on my left hand and numbness/tingling in my right hand. Sucks getting a little bit older and not being able to go all out all the time. Glad you are getting some good therapy, Buckin!
This is just what needed today... Billy Ray swingin an axe!

Good ear friend. That’s where the word sound comes from
My kind of video. Thanks buck!!!
You do have a mean swing, I guess splitting a zillion rounds of wood will do that to ya 😄💯
been waiting for another axe video. LOVIN IT BUCKIN!

Next time😊

Mauls work
God I hope Im in as good of physical condition as you are Sir when I get to your age!Awesome!❤
I found an old French curve ax handle and loved the feel of it. Something about it made the swing feel much more powerful and just a joy/ comfort to have in the hands versus a straight or slight curve handle.

Buckin!!! We love you!!
Some day I will get a wood bullet I am blown away every time I see you swing it
It’s like a pristine oiled machine
You got alot of Wood Cut Buckin. Liked seeing what different Axes do in different situations.
It’s important isn’t it
Great now I’m itchin to get out and split some wood 🤣 love the videos brother stay safe!
Love it, great advice on axes 👍🏻 over here in germany I use a lot of Fiskars and Ochsenkopf axes these are great too for splitting logs.
fiskars are far best of any because handle cannot be damaged while this wooden handles and even those protected with metal are damaged by time or depend on amount of splitting
The smell of split wood on a cool crisp morning. Pure bliss. For me anyways...😂 who smells their wood splits . I love the fresh smell of white oak.
Nicely done Billy. But the post oak in southern oklahoma dont split anything like that.
BE KIND!
... and do it for a long time ☺️👍🏻
Hey Buckin’
In this video you mentioned that you put the ashes from the stove in the garden? Does the help with keeping the grass greener or vegetables growing better?

Wow that woodbullet
Look fantastic to play with
Good skills , nice axes --sound on lol
Nice job.

I hope your videos stay alive for 100 years man
Mee too
In 94 I met johnfilupsusa's kid from Maine he had all kinda advice about wood this was in the Bitterroot
Well, Buckin, that was quite the impressive hockey blow at 21:34. You just may have passed a section of your lung. 😅😂😊
That Raven! 10:51 ❤
Thanks brother
Love the video
You bet
I'd choose the wood bullet just because of how easy it pulls out of the wood. Lets you work without losing your flow 😁
They are quite similar profiles but the bullet does release nice there was allot of thought in it . But Jeffrey’s works great any axe with a similar profile to these will split ok . But what you noticed is the secret sauce

Thanks!
I love getting lost in the process of splitting firewood.
Just need a half dozen more axes and I’ll be set! 🤣
I was out in the backyard splitting straight white oak and some knotty red oak. I cheated a little bit with the 026😂👊
In my opinion the fiskars is the best splitters )
Man I been feeling that all day. I put my harpoon throu the boot. Shout
Sounds painful 😳. You ok?
Nice to see the master at on the axe what brand of axe head is the gorilla is it a sager❤
Gorrilla. It’s Canadian
Right ok 👍
Last year I was in b.c.
Now I am in Quebec Canada
I miss splitting the Doug fir tree
Here I need the big maul....
I enjoy splitting wood by hand also but I’ve always used a maul. I would love to try using an axe. Do you have any recommendations for a vintage axe that I could find on eBay for splitting?
far best for money are fiskars just like durability and if log have bulges then with any axe will be hard to split
I use my fiskars 6 pound maul the most, I had the 8 pounder and sold it, the 6 is big enough. I have a dozen axes to pick from, the old double bits are fun to swing but the fiskars gets used when I need to get sh*t done.
I would like to see Billy go after an Elm round with an axe! You split hem with a saw.
❤ I love Your Videos ! ❤ Grüße aus Bayern 💥

Sounds alright
SUPER
AHWOOOO GET ONE 👍❤️🌲
I am really interested on your opinion about gränsfors and fiskars splitting axes. Did you ever work with one?
Greetings from Germany
Both good I prefer gransfor
Buckin it's great to see you back doing what you enjoy 🪵🪓 not everyone is cut out to be a ball point labourer and believe me paperwork does my head in so do what you enjoy 👍

Why wouldn't he?
How well does wood bullet work on hardwood like maple and birch
I have one it’s incredible, it splits everything, the best part it doesn’t get stuck in the wood, it’s well worth the money 🙏🪓
Incredible
Buck it Billy ray. Gotta keep you warm.
got a few chopping profile axes, but I need a good splitting axe hopefully I will find a head soon, but what pattern besides a tassie is your favorite for splitting?
Don’t have a favourite. It’s about profile
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith 👍👍thanks
he's a wood surgeon dissecting this wood with different tools. makes me wanta get out and split
Hey does anyone know the pattern of the double bit?? It's beautiful!
"this is actually a dissector" (pause - lean in - gaze) Brilliant.
So glad he dont mention "the dissector" is a Tassie Hytest. Then everyone would want one!! Such an exquisite tool.
I think double bitted axes are cool, but why double bitted axes?
Buckin, I got a Garry oak coming down because it’s old and now a hazard to the house. I’m gonna need an axe when it does. Do you have a recommendation for an axe profile and where or who I can get one from?
HoffmanBlacksmithing.com sells my wood bullet
I think i have to grind one of my axe's down so it looks and works like one of yours does. (my axe's work but no like yours) haha🤙🏻✊🏼
THE VOORTEXXX SWING !!!!!
Hi Buckin! I want to switch from Fiskars to something with a wooden handle. It will be used mostly for splitting. Is arvika 5star a good choice or would you recommend something else?
I wood look for a thicker profile . The arvika is a felling axe
How can I purchase one of those from you sir?
Where can I buy these axe heads?
Pitch piñon good hot wood ..!
I don't think you could get a better profile than Jeff's ax...wish you could elaborate on the subject...what's not good about it
