Never split from the dry side of the log, go always to the fresh side (that you just cut with the chain saw).

"I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK, I sleep all night and I work all day, I cut down trees, I eat my lunch......" Hey Taras, do you know anybody in British Columbia? Just kidding. Doesn't take long to sweat bullets when cutting fire wood. Even for a tall manly man like you. Keep up the AWESOME videos my friend!!!

I have had great success with the blue eastwing wedge, but I have to be able to start a groove with the winged maul that is your favorite one. I have hear the tips break off of the spiral wedges. I assume you could just grind it to a point again. I also always use some kind of a base under the rounds, it allows you to transmit energy to the round much more efficiently.

Use TWO wedges on big stuff. On hardwood, like this oak.
    *Eye AND ear protection.*
Split on hard ground (easier splitting), on the cut stump, or move log there. You can use a 4lb hammer to set wedge in wood, then switch to 8-10 lb sledge hammer.
The colder the air temp, the easier the splitting.
Fully seasoned wood -- the bark falls off. Never try to split green wood.
What type of oak? Red, black?

It may be easier to split the word if it's on a harder surface. The wall may be bouncing off the ground reducing the amount of pressure the mall or the log splitter is placing on the wood

Thanks for the video! Those are some big rounds of wood, and the wedge makes the job so much easier. This saved me tons of time and effort.

It’s a tough piece of wood for sure. More strategy with the wedge. Wedge placement can work magic. Good video. Thank you.

you also use the maul to get a indentation in the wood toward the outside of the log then put the wider wedge in and then work your way in to the center
