Hi Rod. Great video. You make it look pretty easy and give ample information that anyone should be able to make one, and, I suppose with enough practice, most probably could. That said, few ever do. Your handles are incredable and that is undoubtedly the result of your knowledge, experience, skill and desire to produce an excellent quality product combined. Another fantastic handle for another lucky customer.
Well.....I'd like to think so. I'm not rich, handsome or incredibly intelligent, but I sure do like to make a sweet handle. (...and pass along a few pointers for those who would like to try!)
Number 1. I love your channel and have been a fan for years. Number 2. I will one day if I have to spend my last dime buy one of your Aussie pattern handles. Thanks for everything. I’m currently trying to make my first handle at the moment. Unfortunately it was a 1x so I had to laminate palm swells. But I have the perfect head for that Aussie handle.
Hey Mountain man - thanks for the kudo's. I think a laminated palm swell is gorgeous...and might try that one day. Our kids and I made laminated paddles a few years back and its a pretty sweet way to add character and color to a project. All the best.
Good evening; Thank you for helping others to find confidence an a sense of autonomy. Now here is the difficulty,,,,,,,,,,,,,I never thought I would be a "safety nazi",,,,,well,,,,loose shirt cuffs while operating???????here is a practical solution,,,,,,bicycle pant clips!!!!! push up your sleeves and hold them up your arms with the pant clips,,,,,,cheap comfortable and effective. Carry on my friend,,,you are doing the right thing...
LOL! Actually Dave, I teach chainsaw safety and I preach this all the time. I just watched the video again last night and I noticed the same thing!! Thanks for pointing that out - and a good piece of advice. I appreciate you sharing that.
That’s a lot of templates, designs from all over the world, Himalayan axes, Russian axes, Afghanistan lybia patterns, Aussie, New Zealand, Swedish, German, French, Spanish, central South American. Alaskan, north & South Pole, Egyptian, Mediterranean, everything!!!
Yes....I specifically save the butt pieces so the kink in the neck runs perfect with the sway in the neck. More about it here: th-cam.com/video/vSeHaC3fzEw/w-d-xo.html
Hmmm. Just checked them out on line. They do seem like they are aggressive enough. The Lee Valley Shinto have too many "extra: handles that I don't like - seem to limit the tool's maneuverability. So found another on line. I'll do a video of it once I get it.
Great way to produce a handle . I can attest to this man’s work . Top shelf , and even better , shared his knowledge
Thanks a lot Buckin' . Good to see you here and still at it as well. Everyone out here knows you...you're doing a great thing buddy. God bless ya!

Nice quick way of doing one. I just use a hatchet, draw knife and a spoke shave now adays. Do you ever use the root section for a hewing handle?

Have you ever tried a Shinto rasp?, they are amazing for shaping handles.
Had several other folk also suggest the Shinto. Where does a fella find them? I'm game to try anything that works!
