I'm vegetarian and going to korea always scared me a bit, almost everything has either seafood or meat in it. This definitely will be my guide when I finally go there
Don't eat anything new unless you really sure abt ingredients.. outside India people really don't know veganism..it's not there fault it just cultural difference
Thank you for not only making this vegan street food video but also using your own container, cup & straw to buy food & drinks. Absolutely love your zero waste practice =D
Oh this was just torturous 😩😩 everything looks so so good! This video was super helpful and extensive, you really did your research. Also love how you bring your own containers, cutlery and straw. Looking forward to your Korean phrases video and Japan videos 😍
This is so awesome. I have a couple of friends who lived in Korea who said it was SUPER unvegan. In China I found it was fairly easy to find vegan street food, but not always possible. In Japan, where I live now, at festivals and such it's not TOO hard to find SOMETHING, but not often this many options.
@@laksh_12345 Well, it seems I was lucky with the first few festivals I went to! After the first year all the vendors had different flavors of fries that all had dairy in them for example, where the year before there were some that were fine. There were still things like candied fruits and such, but the festivals my second go around had a LOT less options. Almost nothing.
I am vegetarian and was not sure if street food in Korean would offer anything for me. But this video changed my mind. So happy to see there are so many options on street food for vegan & vegetarian!
I love you for this fast no nonsense only food that also with all details videos. Plus me being vegan.. i can actually drool over them and thanks to you i m sure now that i can survive in Seoul too which i so desperately want to visit.
Omg you are a lifesaver! I went to Seoul last summer and didnt bother checking out the food in Myeondong bc I assumed most things werent vegan. I'm going back this January and thankful to have come across your channel!
This is just amazing. I am just getting into Korean food tbh and it was really difficult at the beginning how to get this really nice Korean flavor in a vegan way ... Thank you so much for all your brilliant vegan food content! Keep the videos coming :)
I've watched this video (and others from this SK series) so so many times :) Please make more content - the production quality is great, and your videos are so informative! Really a treasure
For me one of the most challenging vegan obstacles in Korea is fish. It’s hard to tell sometimes whether or not some savory foods were made with fish sauce, fish stock, shrimp jeot, fish-flavored soy sauce, etc… it hides in a lot of foods!
Great video! I appreciate it so much to see locals showing street food or traditional food that is vegan or where to get it. Very useful for me as a tourist in South Korea! Thank you
Aaahh this made me so so hungry! As 20+ year vegan who visited Seoul once, I definitely have to go there again now. Thanks for the great suggestions. =)
It’s torture 😭 It makes me hungry . I really want to go to South Korea but I thought that it would be difficult as a vegan 🌱 but you made me realize that is possible thank you !!!!
I thought being vegan in Korea would be so difficult because that's what I've heard akdjaja now I'm excited to go when I'm older and hopefully there'll even be MORE vegan options then :D
it's easier to be vegan in korea than anywhere else in my opinion. our food is mostly plant-based and we need to dispel the idea that it's all korean bbq. meat wasn't even a staple part of our diet until after the 80's. and the food is actually delicious. I don't understand how white people can be vegan lol their food is trash
@@ryanmgkim it really depends on your circumstances. If you’re eating homemade food all the time it’s somewhat easy to keep your diet vegan here but if you’re a student/tourist it’s extremely challenging because most 외식 foods have some form of animal derivative in them. Being vegan isn’t just about taking out the meat you know. Eggs and seafood count too which is tough because both are staples in Korean food (not to mention dairy too, although that’s usually easy to avoid here). As a vegan, you can’t even eat kimchi at most restaurants because most people make it with 새우젓 or 멸치액. I would say that Korea is pretty challenging for vegans because not only are there a lot of sneaky, easy-to-miss animal products, but also there isn’t much variety in non-animal protein sources. It’s either plain beans (types of beans sold here are also very limited compared to other countries and freaking expensive) or tofu for the most part which could get really boring for a lot of people. And that’s not even mentioning the social implications of being vegan! Basically unless your whole family/friend group is also vegan (extremely unlikely) you’re going to be put in sooo many awkward situations since Korea has so much shared-meal culture. In other countries it’s easy to just order your own meal at a restaurant but you usually can’t do that here.
@@PumpkinMozie I understood that very easily. I think one has to keep fresh fruits with him to avoid getting in difficult situations plus there are many Indian restaurants where vegan + vegetarian food is available .
I one day want to travel to korea. I am so obsessed with vegan japanese and korean food. I grew up in an area of Germany where a lot of Korean and Japanese Companies settled so I really learned to love their foods.
Love this! I've always wondered how to survive as a vego in Korea, because the Korean restaurants here have so few veg options. You're super cute and love the clear Aussie accent. 🐨🦘 Hello from Sydney 👋🏻
I studied in Korea for a year and this brought back so many memories ! I loved kwangjang, bindaettok is amaaazing ! Mayank Kimball too. I remember going to these ladies' stall and them being like "yeah eat young lady !! Eat !" Because I eat A LOT 😂
Atlanta has the best vegan restaurant. It's actually in a suburb called Suwanee and the restaurant is called "Hajun Farm" or "HJ Farm". I always get the Tofu Steaks and Kimchi Dumpling Soup
I am so happy i saw this video.... I was so worried because i am planning to go to korea... I am gonna write all the dishes and places... And make sure to visit them.. Thnakyou.
Hi, I just want you to know that I've been having Roasted Sweet Potato for lunch once a week for the past couple years thanks you to! TY TY TY Thanks for the inspiration
I think vegetarians have it a little easier than vegans because we're okay with diary and some are okay with eggs as well......so we'd be able to adjust. The problem is that because Korean cuisine relies heavily on non vegetarian products, a lot of seemingly vegetarian or even vegan dishes might have animal products in them - fish sauce being the most widely used. This video is so so so so helpful because it really is reassuring to know that vegan friendly food can be found and enjoyed just as much in Korea!♥️
Oh my good, thank you ! I pretty afraid going to korea after Taiwan, since Taiwan is pretty vg-friendly. You gave me hope, and i miss so much korean food !
Loved this video. Makes me miss Korea. Also Will doing the little hearts towards the end was so cute! My dad can’t figure out how to do it for the life of him. Lol 😂 Can I also stay at your palace?! 😝😂
This is Yum.. i am trying to find your video of the korean phrases for vegetarian and vegan. Can you post the link here? Thank you so much! This is indeed superhelpful.
I'm going to Seoul in April and I'm so excited to try the street food 😍 did you have a list of Korean phrases that are useful to learn for checking vegan / nut free options?!
Wathhing this bcs I am going to Seoul this June and usually when I travel overseas I will just eat vegan food as halal meat is just too hard to find and I want to eat local food. ♥️♥️♥️

I'm still not sure if I really do a Korea trip this year, due to the costs of the flight and well, the language barrier...but as vegam foodie...damn I'm tempted :D
