Jay's a solid dude. I reached out to him via email to ask how he trains to address asymmetry in his quads. (He had that issue and was able to balance them. I had the same issue and was looking for advice.) Not only did he reply, but he replied with a good amount of information and also a god amount of encouragement. Good guy in my book.
I know..there are those two infamous shots of him onstage (one of them he his flexing his left quad I think, forgot the other pose) They became famous like how Dorian's two black and white photos became legendary when they were seen by the public. Jay looked l like he completely maxed out in terms of how much size he could force onto his frame. It is surreal to the eye, because you just cannot process how huge, ripped and conditioned he was that year.
You could also argue that Ronnie pushed Jay to be as good as he was. And hadn't Ronnie existed Jay may not have been as great as he was with Ronnie being real.

Hey Nick, killer channel. Not just young bodybuilders subscribers. Im 49 yrs old and a former CBBF competitor from back in the late 80"s to mid 90's. Very impessed with your knowledge of the sport/competitors as well as your awareness of the evolution of the game. Throughout the golden era, the transition to mass monsters and today's reemergence of classic physique and insta bodybuilders, you're definitely a student of the game and an excellent role model for today's athletes.
I was never a big fan of his physique, but man I can't lie he came in conditioned most of the time. And his legs are underrated in my opinion especially his calves. I think he has one of the most balanced legs of all time. Especially 2009 seeing those feathers in his legs! Mann he was good that year
I wasn't the biggest fan of Jay back in the day cause of his wide waist, but in 2009 he could've beaten nearly any mr olympia winner ever. Easily the best Quads of any Olympia winner for sure.
Jay is arguably the best ever. He placed 2nd six times, won 4 titles while being the only pro to regained his title. That’s a decade of being one of the top 2 bodybuilders in the world. The way he carries himself and gives back is by far way ahead of everyone else. He’s the best of all time in my opinion!
Only twice in my life has photos literally dropped my jaw... Dorian in his socks, and Jay at the 09' Olympia!! When i saw the cover of Muscular Development, it just blew my mind!
Worth every second. Cutler IS old school. The make it happen excellence, self discipline, never give up attitude and success coupled with humility and down to earth presence. THAT is a role model. The true Mr. Clean. Awesome, thanks Nick
Jay is who got me into this whole sport way back in 04 and 05. He was the most freaky guy I’d ever seen, even better than Ronnie simply for his gut. Jay is the man. He’s a great guy. Respect cutler, respect.
I got to meet Jay Cutler recently in my small town in northern Alberta. He was an extremely rad dude - he hung out signing autographs, taking pictures and chatting with people for hours. It was actually surreal just how available and chill he seemed to be.
Jay was the guy that got me into bodybuilding myself. He was the one that got me motivated to get big. Had posters of him on my walls. Dude was awesome. Meet him one time and he is the coolest guy you will ever meet. Glad to see after all these years the man is still doing good. Great video brother.
Jay's journey has been hard earned. Really a great example of how we can all become great through struggle. I will have to meet Jay when I get the chance. A champion inside and outside of bodybuilding.
jay cutler in 2009 was simply just amazing... one of the best Olympia showings of all thing. lost, came back in one of the best physique showings and took back his crown. Jay is just the most underrated of all time
I think with your builders you talk about, this one Jay Culter you really hit had with passion. You re consistent with how you understand how his rain became the way it is... I really think you Nailed it this time. You're really happy to do this. Well done
Spot on about jay. Met him in 2007 and just a wicked cool guy and a great knowledge of the industry and ran into him again a year later and talked for about30 min just a down to earth guy and humble.
Great video.! Jay has always been one of my favorites.! I used to workout with Becka Swanson world's strongest women at the time and her and Jay were friends so she's the one that turned me on to Jay Cutler and his career.
Nick, You said Arnold was never beaten on the Olympia stage; however, I think you meant he was never beaten after he won. He did lose to the Late Great Sergio Oliva (best proportions in history) on the 1969 Olympia stage.
Thank you for the vid on Jay. I also agree that he's both amazing and underrated. I always thought, while not aesthetic, he was more aesthetic than Ronnie. I'm glad you pointed out that he's the only man to beat Ronnie, that alone deserves to be mentioned when people talk about Ronnie being possibly the greatest ever.
One thing I'll never get about modern bodybuilding is why they allow such wide waists. It completely misses the point of what makes a body look good (proportions).

Great Video about a Great Guy!! I met Jay back in 2004 and found him to be very personable and, as you said, always had time for everybody! I've been training since 1959, and met and trained with many of the greats in bodybuilding, having lived in the UK, USA, China, Greece and now the UAE, and IF I could look like any of them it would be Jay!!
do a video on lee Haney he two has 8 MR O wins, people always forget about lee Haney, in my opinion I think lee was a far better bodybuilder and looked better, Ronnie Colman always had a fat stomic, so why does Ronnie Colman go down in history as the greatest bodybuilder off all time? when lee Haney looked better/
There's a few shots of Jay that make you go wow that looks insane, same with Ronnie and all the great champions. Terrific bodybuilder and ambassador of the sport.

Absolutely! It seems that it's rarely talked about and I don't know why. Cutler's 2009 beats out the last several years competition in my opinion.
Iron World Stomp pose
early 2000s jay is also crazy as fuck
he looked like something that could come out of dragon ball
You could also argue that Ronnie pushed Jay to be as good as he was. And hadn't Ronnie existed Jay may not have been as great as he was with Ronnie being real.
Ronnie was very big but didn’t have the proportions like Jay
You could say that Dorian Yates pushed Ronnie, and somebody pushed Dorian, they do what they must to win, thats it
Competition helps a lot to get better, we've been lucky that we got some of the best rivalries and witnessed the results
By that logic What happen yo kai then ? 😂
