I agree. I remember 2/3 years ago being subbed to luimarco and nick for all my bodybuilding history. I don't like the new videos as much but still subbed and watched because I like seeing nick do well and love the way he handles people when they try to beef with him. Good dude all round ✌️
18:00 even in an old low resolution picture you can see the cross striations in Tom Platz's legs. He may not have ever won a Sandow but he is definitely deserving of the title of Quadfather.
Prejudging vs. actual show. I remember that contest. The consensus was that mentzer blew it at the show with a less than perfect presentation. I think Frank’s wins over Robby were closer. Then again I think Robby at his peak was better than Arnold.
1981 takes it for me. Bodybuilders who were better than Franco that contest. 1. Platz, 2. Dickerson, 3. Padilla, 4. Callander and a good case for Tinnerino too.
Backstage at the 1980 Olympia Arnold was starting sh*t with other bodybuilders and kept babbling about how he wanted 2 weightclasses at the Olympia but wouldn’t give a reason for it. Boyer Coe asked Arnold to give a reason for wanting this, but in response Arnold just called him a baby. Mentzer got pissed, stood up, and told him off like a child and they almost came to blows
Nick, you do a fabulous job as a documentarian of bodybuilding history on YT (and generally). I come to your channel nearly daily to take in your volumes of well-researched and narrated work that is entertaining while educating new generations about all eras, including the high regard for the classic, statuesque physique. As a journalist myself, I appreciate your integrity and clear view of how to report ethically and with principle. Keep it up!
• Rushank yes Nasser was truly a beast , I think he really intimidated a lot of the industry back in the day and the judges didn’t want to give him the title in 97 due to him being a black sheep and dorian a golden child ... IMO this led to indirectly make Nasser only comfortable when he was max weight , even off season which definitely lead to his death in 2013 ...
Yep. Lee was untouchable during his reign, flawless from the back, strong front, small waist, good arms - the full package. Could probably win a couple more if Dorian didn't show up. Could probably beat Dorian for a couple of years too, but he didn't want to play the size game.
In 1980 Arnold was not near his 1970's competitor form or shape. But overall he looked well enough to win. As a whole he was just better. Mentzer was down from his "perfect" form, Zane looked too small compared to Arnold and Walker looked too smooth despite bigger legs. No way that Franco should have won in 1981. Tom Platz and Danny Padilla both looked better than Franco.
100% agreed. I was at the 97 Mr. O in the LBC. During pre judging it was obvious Nasser was 1st. Even Lee could have been higher. It was a very controversial show. Great vid as Always Nick👍🏼 Train Hard Win Easy 💪🏼Haus
I believe 2017 needs to be included in this lineup or future similar lineups for sure. The fact that a pregnant Phil health wins a 7th sandow and William Bonac, who was clearly the most complete bodybuilder of that night, was placed 3rd only due to his height is an example of judging by favoritism/namesake over physique .
The head judge of the 1981 Mr Olympia, Roger Schwab, owned the gym that I went to and he was a brilliant guy with unquestioned integrity... in light of the controversy from 1980, he had written some letters to the ifbb to try to ensure the fairness and competence of the judging. The sense I got was that there were forces at work beyond the jydging that prevented a fair decision... even Frank Zane said that Danny Padilla should have won.... John Hanssen did a great video with him specifically about the 1981 Olympia and Rick Wayne wrote some great pieces on both the 1980 and 81 Olympia.... to me, those two are the ones that stand out the most... I really wasn't following the sport in 1997....
I've been an observer of the iron culture for decades and I'm glad to see that you are now starting to see some of these champions for what they really are. I'm still waiting for someone to call out Frank Zane whom Weider convinced the bodybuilding community that Zane was the most perfectly proportioned man despite the fact that he had no muscle mass and was still given the Mr. Olympia title.
Pretty impressive that he beat guys so much bigger than he was. I thought and was small until I saw him in person. It was his development that carried him. He was so developed he didn't look human. I can't describe it but he looked unreal.
People think Arnold should've lost 1980 because they compare him to his best self. The reality is Arnold can come in 90% and hang with the rest at their 100%.
I appreciate your honesty to the fans above everything else Nick's Strengthen and Power, you do a wonderful job for all the hard work that you put into these videos. Through your videos I became a fan of the sport of bodybuilding and your complete honesty is the gold standard of this sport, in my opinion. I look forward to your next video, have a good day.
I honestly feel like Dorian deserved to win: - Back Double - Front Lat Spread - Back Lat Spread - Side Chest (controversial but Dorian wins for me because of overall thickness and density) - Side Tricep (same thing) - Front Double is the one pose where you can see the injury. Even if he gets last on that pose is just one. What about all the others. And Nick himself has said this before, that in order to dethrone a raining Mr. Olympia you have to without any doubt beat the champion. To me Nasser didn’t do it. I feel like most people judge that Olympia mostly on the front double bicep because is the most popular picture, and forget that is 1 pose out of a total of 11.
Dorian looked like a fridge: - Deformed melting toothpicks for arms. - Small shoulders - Small chest compared to the rest of the guys (Nasser, Kevin etc) - No ab definition - Bloated Waist spilling out over the sides He should have been 3rd place after Shawn Ray IMO, that ugly ass showing of Dorian shouldn't have been rewarded at all.
I agree with you in the majority of those mandatories, except side chest (i think Nasser edged him, but it was very close). The problem is that the assimetry was too much and wasted it's phisique flow.
1997 mandatory poses: Front double bi - Nasser Abs and thighs - Nasser Front lat spread - Dorian Side chest - Nasser Side tricep - Dorian Back double bicep - Dorian Back lat spread - Dorian That's 4/7 poses for Dorian, not counting the relaxed poses. 24:13 That's quite a ridiculous statement you made there Nick.
1997 the most controversial and thats why dorian yates in guilt took his face off from the scene i must say as a great sportsman he must handover his Mr olympia to naseer . Even now he can do that in memory of gr8 naseer RIP
Awesome vid Nick! These are important parts of history to all who enjoy following bodybuilding. I also have a recommendation that you do a sort of comparison video, year by year of the level of improvement/change in the mr olympia physique.
Nick, I'm a new subscriber of your channel because of the high quality, honesty and integrity that you have in compiling these. Have you thought of applying for a jury at the Olympia? They need ppl like you to obliterate the unnecessary politics. Let body-building be body-building. Cheers.
This is great. Been a subscriber for a couple years now and this is the kind of thing I subbed for. The news videos and drama stuff can be interesting sometimes, but you're so good at these bodybuilding history and physique analysis videos. Keep it up!
The 1981 Olympia was the worst robbery of a competitor, but the 1980 was the biggest robbery overall because we the fans were robbed of seeing Mike Mentzer reach his full potential.

Lol when someone beats arnold at the front double bicep and the side chest (Mike Mentzer) he defeats arnold but granted it was his worst year but still shouldn't have won
Good video here. I remember hearing Dorian won most of the poses in the 97 O but it’s hard to imagine. He definitely didn’t win the front double bicep.
Good job @NickStrengthAndPower! I rarely comment. Regarding your question on our thoughts of the video format, I would like to say you did great. I am into bodybuilding but do not like watching any of it. Many times I found myself wanting to click the upper right (x) on my screen, but you kept the it the subject level throughout the presentation; hence I watched it through it's entirety.
I saw Nassar walking through the Nashville airport and was totally blown away at how MASSIVE the man was. All I could think was how in the wide world of sports is this guy going to fit in one seat on the plane LOL!!!!
BRING BACK THESE BODYBUILDING HISTORY VIDEOS
;)
Killers eddieeee
He just did 🤨
11:04 is one hell of a cool pose
RIP Nasser El Sonbaty he was one of the best 🙏💙
Yes one of the best but not the best.
In my opinion he was the best bodybuilder of the '90s along with Dorian.
Thulsa Doom that’s what he said you fkn idiot
Got a chance to meet him in San Diego at 24hr fitness a few months before he flew back to Egypt and he was just as humble and cool as could be.
José F. Arndt He was a jerk.
The way Nasser was robbed will never be forgotten, RIP Nasser we won't forget you
The 2007 Victor Martinez would have OBLITERATED the 2019 Brandon Curry!!!
Yes he absolutely would
Definitely, at a quick glance he looked very similar to phil heath
Victor and Nasser got robbed. You can't tell me politics didn't interfere with those decisions.
Yep, IFBB wanted white poster boys as Mr O not an arab or latino, it's obvious.
Robberies since day 1.
@@skatevidcentral you might want to check the history of Mr.O winners up to that point....
Dorian won majority of poses, put the pipe down
Victor and Nasser got robbed. And so was Günter Schlierkamp in 2002.
Phil Heath was robbed in the Mr Bubblegut 2018 contest
Hammy B
He deserved to lose 100% in 2018.
He wouldn't have been robbed if he didn't have to go to the hospital to give birth
So glad to see a video from Nick that isn't a current events or bodybuilding news, these are the Nicks S&P videos that i remember subscribing for!
This is possibly Nicks best video!
Hard agree on this.
@ryan rogers diagree
I agree. I remember 2/3 years ago being subbed to luimarco and nick for all my bodybuilding history.

@@goal-goal-goalllllll yeha i aggre but theres not so much more history ge could cover
Dorian's arms, especially the left, are the worst arms to ever win an Olympia.
ahhhhhh chooChris Dickerson.......excuse me
Mr M it is actually Chris Dickerson, Moredan Justaman is right, Google some of his front double bi pics from his win in Mr. Olympia of 1982
Shown roden
Mr M yea Dorian came in looking like shit VS Nasser .
That’s cause his left arm was the torn bicep and tricep arm. His right arm was just a torn bicep. This is well known.
18:00 even in an old low resolution picture you can see the cross striations in Tom Platz's legs. He may not have ever won a Sandow but he is definitely deserving of the title of Quadfather.
Year 2050 :
Top 5 most controversial mr golden era
I like your comment :D but it is a fanvoting, it can only be controversial if nick had manipulated that.
Why call them controversial? Call them what they are robberies!!!
Honorable Mention:
1979 Mr. Olympia, Frank Zane vs Mike Mentzer where Mike got a PERFECT SCORE and Frank Zane still won, how does that even happen???
Prejudging vs. actual show. I remember that contest. The consensus was that mentzer blew it at the show with a less than perfect presentation. I think Frank’s wins over Robby were closer. Then again I think Robby at his peak was better than Arnold.
Make a video on "What if Arnold, alone, still lost the 71 Olympia?"
John Cena and Drax
“He was being groomed by Joe Weider”
You got that right!
Yep, Weiders ruined the sport.
exactly...one contestant beat no one to win olympia...unreal how can you count that win win you biggest rivals are not there
he was muscle worshiping. lol
I really like that you put the 81 Olympia above the 80 Olympia, since Arnold wasn’t too bad, but Franco clearly was not the winner
“I’m Nick here, with Nicks Strength and POWER!”
Dylan Gorbet Even Hadi was shaken by it
*Larry Wheels has entered the chat*
Steve where’s back guy when you need him
POWWWAAAAA
The OGs of this channel are loving this vid
Literally just got done watching the Nasser vs Dorian vid. You rock Nick, thank you for all you do.
Thanks for the video Nick, Nasser is really the biggest uncrownd Mr Olympia ever , really sharp placings
1981 takes it for me. Bodybuilders who were better than Franco that contest. 1. Platz, 2. Dickerson, 3. Padilla, 4. Callander and a good case for Tinnerino too.

always a fan of the bulky 71 Arnold. wished more pics were around. He was better bigger

Nick has a good speaking voice for these video's. Thanks for taking the time to make them.
Padilla should have won the 1981 Olympia. Perfect physique.
Der Häusel agree
Great video Nick. As a bodybuilding fan I appreciate your passion for the sport and the work you put into these videos. Fantastic!
Nick, was Lee Haney the only Mr.Olympia that won more than 3 times without any controversial victories? Just 8 straight undisputed victories.
Good question. Apparently, yes.
Yes he was consistent throughout his reign
Did Ronnie Coleman have any really controversial wins?
lee haney is the true and real GOAT!!!
Yep. Lee was untouchable during his reign, flawless from the back, strong front, small waist, good arms - the full package. Could probably win a couple more if Dorian didn't show up. Could probably beat Dorian for a couple of years too, but he didn't want to play the size game.
