- This video will show you how to replace the fuel pump in a 2001-2011 Ford Ranger.
If your fuel gauge is not reading correctly on your Ford Ranger it may be due to a bad sending unit located on the fuel pump assembly.

If anyone wants to do this the easy way, just take the bed off. 6 t55 torx bolts, fuel filler neck and wiring harness just takes minutes and you dont need a lift or jack.
Thanks for watching
Thats the difference in $1000 labor job and a $200 labor job
How long does the job take once you remove the bed?
@@tfloraditch 10-15 minutes tops if you don't have to wait in parts forever
I took my bed off. It was stupid easy compared to what this guy did. I can't believe a professional went this route.
I think it would be best to remove the bed?
You can do it that way as well. It's a pain to do also especially if you live in the rust belt like we do.
A few important tips:
1. Before removing the fuel lines, depressurize your fuel system by pulling the fuse for your fuel pump (see owner's manual) and cranking the engine for 7-10 seconds.
2. Work on an empty or near empty gas tank, if possible. If a source of ignition were to ignite the gasoline, the consequences could be catastrophic.
3. Do this job outside, if possible. Once again, if the gasoline ignites and you have the vehicle in your garage, your whole house could catch fire.
Auto Zone rents Fuel Pump Replacement Kit 57160 with a tool to remove and reinstall the lock ring (or collar) that holds the fuel pump in the tank. The Ford factory technical manual lists the torque specification for tightening the lock ring for a 2002 Ford Ranger at 66 lb/ft.
Very good tips. thank you.
If your pumps not pumping fuel then there's no pressure in the line and what little fuel was left was used when you're turning it over yelling,
" Not the fuel pump" but heat expansion, open the filler cap.
The bed is the only way... Especially if you have fuel in the tank. However it is a though job for one person. Me, I have a cover, that becomes dead weight when the lift supports are removed and the bed weight, you have to scootch it back walk around scootch it back... Undo the four corner bolts on the inside of the bed and candalever the bed back. The fuel pump is squatty and doesn't need much height for clearance.
Thanks for the added tips.
GREAT VIDEO A great help on my 2006 ranger, perfect camera work Thanks Again
Glad it helped
GREAT VIDEO BRO THE BEST WILL UNFOLD FOR YOU
Thanks for watching!
Great video! I have a 2011 with no start condition. Cranks but won’t start. The inertia switch is ok. How can I know if it’s the fuel pump? I’m going to check the fuel pump fuse next. The truck sits for long periods without use, can it be bad fuel? Fuel filter?
It depends how long it sat for. If it has been over a year the fuel might be bad in it.

lol..it's not easy. Thanks for watching!
Why drop tank, just lift the bed?
Yes this is another way to perform this job.
Don't have to drain the tank, no shit falling in your eyes and you don't have to look for the gas caddy that's probably has 20 gallons in it
Just move the box back resting it on the rear tires Blow all the crap off the old unit and r&r it , you need a strong helper to help lifting the box or use an overhead come along .Way faster nnad you will kill the lab opp time on it
Thanks for watching.
Nice video

Yes on a 2006 ranger I had to measure wheel base which was 10'6"
Thanks for watching.
What can you do to keep the lock ring from popping off when threading?
Make sure the pump is seated properly and tighten it down with even pressure and that should help.
can you get replacement clips for those kind of fittings? to save replacing the whole end? I need some for the fuel filter fittings. the worst retainers ever made.
You might find them in the help section at the auto parts store or the dealer may be able to get them for you.
@@HomeOwnerRepair i pulled the old locks out and took a dremel and modified the ends to accept the older U shaped locks. So simple now, I also safety wire the ends together.
what is the flat rate hours allowed for that job?
Most shops are getting 100 an hour now or more.
How much does it cost ?
If I remember correctly I think it was around $130.00
Can you tell me where to find the fuel supply hose on 2003 ranger edge 3.0
You may want to ask the dealer.
