    Before removal, you probably want to mark how the driveshaft aligns with the flange it's bolted to (the rear axle pinion flange). But I'm still struggling to get those bolts loose! Truck, don't make me get the torch... PS, for my 99 RWD ranger, the workshop manual specifies a torque of 94-123 Nm (70-95 lb/ft) on those 4 bolts. And a little bit of medium strength threadlocker seems to be a popular choice. Fruits of an amateur's research.

      That is what l was gonna say. Don't know how important that is , but l do know that these are balanced from the factory.

      @@philipengleman7655 that's what the yellow mark on the shaft is for, should be some yellow on the flange. Green paint on the transmission side

    If you’re doing this without a lift don’t forget to prop the wheels or once you pull out the drive shaft it’ll basically be in nuetral

      Thank you for the added tip! Yes, This is 100% correct if doing this repair in the driveway. We typically use a lift to show better camera angles of what is going on.

      Made this mistake once. Thankfully my CP impact was sitting conveniently in front of the tire.

    Thanks for this info! I was moving states towing a trailer and my rear U joint broke. Had a $1,400 tow bill. Anyways trying to save so money by doing it myself rather than paying a shop. We’ll see how it goes!

    Thank you for the vid. Looks simple! I need to replace my drive shaft. What do I measure to have the correct length ? It’s a single cab with a long bed. I wanna have the correct length before I order it online

      Have your local Ford dealer run the VIN # for your truck. Then they can tell you what the correct part number is for your application.

    Place a visible mark or scratch withik differential flange, matching mark within one rear torx flange bolt. Will have vety noticeable vibration, if re-setting wiithn any direction, beyond original existing manufacturer setting. Drive shaft balanced , designated particular to each vehicle. Alao within torx bolt re-,setting, med-,locktite within torx boly threads. Another, that nearly any-all place within existing original torx bolts to rear flange. Both pre-mark, also med locktite, due to vibration, not only will create vibration, but also vibration influxes with create torx bolts to be under torque recommend setting, loosening as example.

    At 1:54 the camera guy says: “when you put the driveshaft back in, you wanna put the transmission …garbled.” What? Put in neutral, reverse, gear?

    • @HomeownerRepair
      @HomeownerRepair  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah probably in neutral so you can turn the driveshaft.

      You may want to use a pry bar and gently pry it our from the tranny. It should just slide right out. Hope this helps you out.

  • @andrewcastleberry4921
    @andrewcastleberry4921 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    do you think this would be the same for a 2000 ford ranger 4x4?

    • @HomeownerRepair
      @HomeownerRepair  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should be the same or a similar procedure.

    • @jpegjake
      @jpegjake ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a '06 ranger 4x4, the slip joint is integrated to the shaft (sometimes called a fixed joint) so you will have 4 bolts to remove on the front similar to the back.

    Yeah, how to take out drive shaft with the vehicle raised up to where you can walk easy under it. What I'm facing is a whole different task. How to squirm my fat azz under and work with little room to move and parked where I get the cops called on me if seen.

    • @jpegjake
      @jpegjake ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah you kinda need the big jack stands to work on the rear

    Shoulnt you index that driveshaft ? ?

    • @HomeownerRepair
      @HomeownerRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      You should put it back in in the same spot that it was removed. Before you remove the driveshaft you can mark it and the coupler with a line so that you can math it up when putting the driveshaft back in place.

      These bolts are super tight, can an impact be used to loosen ?
