Great job Thanks for the video, I just bought a ranger 53 k miles good compression it runs but Has no power won't go over 50, If i hit any grade / hill in the road it will almost come to a stop dropped it off at a shop they told me the fuel filter was so clogged that they never saw one that dirty and was surprised it even ran at all and said that they think the fuel pump is clogged from a lot of shit in the gas tank And that it will need fuel pump and new gas tank or maybe the gas tank could be cleaned if not to bad shape ,And the truck needs a tuneup They said they won't do the gas tank and fuel pump unless I also get a complete tuneup too !! ,And that everything will cost $875 ...Just subscribed
Thanks for posting. I rewind and paused it several times just to make sure I was seeing that “ Made in Chinamart” logo. I thought my old eyes were fooling me.
Unless there is after market accessories, under the bed is one connector that disconnects the taillights etc. So you do not have to remove the taillights, license lights etc.
From what I can tell Spectra doesn't make any Fuel pump assembly's for the American market anymore... anyways, pretty solid vid. Pretty solid camera work.
@@MattsShop bro i have a striped bolt on the bed the one one the back left off the truck i been trying to drill it out I'm in need off some advice I'm stuck
It's not necessary to completely remove truck bed - just slide it rearward ~12" or so... (Truck bed has a lip on front - raise it up enough to gain clearance before moving it)
@@MattsShop I sprayed the bolts with some PB blaster, went inside and got a cup coffee when finished I went back outside and was surprised how fast I finish this project. I went back inside to tell my wife I was done and she said oh my god really.
I could only imagine how you felt after doing all that work just to find out it was out it was out of gas lol. I guess the bright side is you had to pull the pump to fix it anyway.
overall very nice thank you.... i took the bumper off and slid back the bed about a foot,to access fuel pump.......BAD DESIGN...how about some kind of Removable access panel FORD! Thanks again
Yea, either way gets the job done. Pretty sure that's just for the fuel pump itself. Is your fuel sending unit still good? Most people just replace the whole assembly.
Find the part of the video with the inertia safety shutoff switch, check the fuel pump relay under the hood for power, check the fuse, look for corrosion.
yeah i'm just about to crawl under my 2005 ranger. it's really hard to start when cold. it might need a fuel pump, or if i'm lucky, the filter's clogged.
I'm needing some help I can't tell if the fuel pump is out on a 1996 Mazda b2300 (ford ranger) it would only basically run on starter fluid but if you step on the gas pedal it would stay running is it a bad fuel pump or clogged injector?
I would test the fuel pressure at the rail first. You can rent fuel pressure testers at auto parts stores for free. Pretty sure I showed how to do it in this video.
I bought a set torx heads at Northern Tool, for 11 bucks. Unfortunately all my torque bolts, are stripped, obviously by previous work. Stripped AND rusted (i think) to the frame. Very frustrating.
That sounds like a mess. If it is an older truck you can weld large nuts on the stripped out heads and try to get them out that way. It's going to destroy the paint. You can forget pulling the bed all together and drop the gas tank. Which is probably what I'd do.
I have a 2006 ford ranger xlt 3.0 I was wondering should I change my coil pack even though truck running fine but I changed the plugs and wires but was wanting to change because it’s the original

I ignored mechanic and replaced safety switch cause harness plug to shut off switch was getting hot. It was fuel pump. 2004 ford ranger. Looking for parts? Rock auto.com . parts come to your door. Hope this helps someone with similar problems. There are so many fuel pumps. Need the wheel base measurement.
I'm stunned you have to take the whole bed off for this. my 1998 ranger just shut down with a quick bump then nothing it will crank but not start. you think it's my pump
Check the fuel pump inertia shut off switch, check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail, check the fuel pump relay, check the fuses, and put your ear to the gas tank to see if you can hear it spinning. You don't have to remove the bed, you can drop the tank, but on these little trucks it is a MAJOR PITA to get the tank out. You have to jack the truck up just to slide the thing out. Don't even mention removing the fuel lines. Trust me, removing the bed is the easiest way!
Matt's Shop checked my switch it's good checked the gas hole it makes the noise when I turn the key. I'm not sure how to test the other things. how can I check the fuses and pressures
appreciate your input. you sound just like my x step pops. he was a mechanic. sad I can't get in touch with him. but I'm about to start auto tech school so soon I'll know this stuff
Don't give up! You'll get better at fixing this stuff. I'm pretty sure I showed how to test the fuel pressure in this video. Just search TH-cam for everything you don't know how to do. Then you will know how to do it!
@Damnit Bobby i seen that video. i wonder how the corner of his rear bumper didn't mess up the rear corner of his bed. i did mine the he man method and slid it back some. taking off the rear tires ahead of time probably would have made it alot easier on me.
Dude Im replacing my fuel pump in My 94 ranger splash 3 liter In a couple days What is a good brand fuel pump I don't want Chinese shit And where can I buy one ,I was going to buy a pump from Napa ,Any help would be appreciated
A cut sharpie cap works great in place of that special tool for the fuel lines
Great Idea!

It's a cheap pump for a cheap truck. This one still has a lifetime warranty. It's up to you.

Ty very helpful, I’m getting ready to do this in my 2006 ranger 4 banger
It's not too bad.

that funny shit lol
You don’t need that tool to pop the lines off a old sharpie cap works just fine
WOW. Great trick. Never thought of that.
The locking ring and gasket can be got at all parts stores

Yea, I know right?? An acess panel would be nice.
Great video
The sending unit can be got separately at advance auto.
I like to replace the whole thing. I hate double work.
Great vid. Thanks
No problem 👍
Doing the same job but choose to drop the tank. Would be easy, but I live along the rust belt. Bough bosch pump on rockauto for 75$ CAD (~55$ USD)

I'm replacing the fuel pump on my 2002 ford edge. I have the new one in but it isn't getting any power. Any suggestions as to why? Thank you

Please let us know if this pump fails. I see it was made in China so interested if it holds up.
Where can I get that hamburger for $2.99 a pound? Seriously, great video. Very helpful. Thanks.

In one word, NO! If it works PLEASE don't mess with it! If it works fine you should find something else to change/maintain. How many miles are on it?
Matt's Shop 120,000 what else should I look into maintenance
Yea, don't touch it with only 120,000 miles. You know, air filter, motor oil, rear end oil, transmission fluid. That kind of stuff.
Matt's Shop yeah I change my fluids religiously
Mark Herrera That's good!
How heavy is the bed?
Maybe like 300 LBS. 2-3 guys can lift it.

Yea the safety switch can be a PITA. It's so hidden if you didn't know it's there you'd never find it.
Would u just randomly stall while driving
You could, but that could be a lot of things.

It's not hard, but requires at least 2 guys because it is big, awkward, and heavy.
