I’ve had this car from 2017, and I love this car. When it comes to changing the headlight… oh lord, the way you have to lock it in place has me cursing like no other. Glad you emphasize the difficult part of changing this POS. (BTW; taillights on this car are the EASIEST thing to change! 😂)
I don't understand why car manufactures can't just make little things like this more easy friendly to DIY. I have a F250 pick up, you have to take the front end apart to change the drivers side headlight. So stupid. Thanks for watching and supporting!
@@jonathanc-lo1188Long strong fingers with eyes. Good luck. The driver side sux and yes .. the rears are easy. Woopty fkn dooooo. Fk German engineering as awesome as it might be. When you're rich and can pay someone else to do the most basic shit .. everything is wonderful. that's where I want to be in life. I'm tired.
Thanks for this very honest video. I decided to change my daughters bulb. I tried for almost a hour and called it a night. Next day my son tried for a hour. Frustrated we stopped for lunch. Before letting him try again I took one more shot, gently. It fell right in on the first try.
No Problem. That is what my channel is, honest. Sometimes you just have to walk away from a frustrating situation and come back and start fresh. Glad you were able to get it changed. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for the video and showing the process. I have a 2014 Jetta and I was contemplating going to a mechanic or doing it myself. I think I can try since my hands are small.
It's two screws that hold the fins on the lightbulb if you loosen them you couldn't put it in easier. You tighten them up after you get the bulbs in position.
Thanks for the video I'm faced with that exact job on my sons 2014 jetta ,except I have to change both high beams and both low beams and those two little lights inside the high beam lens ,FYI- if you didn't know those little lights have a name and there called,"city lights", the video you did was good ,I just wish you could have slowed it down for the part that there was a stainless steel loop you put back on the new bulb from the burnt one,no worries I'm goin to take pictures as much as possible before I start takin things apart, I'll watch and subscribe to any repair videos you put out on the 2014 jetta, thanks again ! God bless!
Hi John, thanks for watching. I know it's not the greatest video lol. Since then, had to do the daytime running light bulbs. OMG, they are the hardest to do. Figured out that taking the whole light assembly out is easier to work on it and angle your hand in to change bulbs. Just pop off the grill, 4 bolts and unplug the harness, easy to do. Good luck!
Thanks Adam. Just thought I would share such a simple thing to do but more difficult for bigger hands lol. I have recovered since from loss of skin on my hands.
this worked great on passenger side, but on driver side I just can't seem to seat the bulb/socket into the headlamp assembly. Its awkward angle, left hand and tight. On passenger side I removed and put back in super easy . . . any tip? My hands not that big - the problem is odd angle, can't see and it does not seem to fit. . . . I've been at it for 30 minutes. Just keep trying?
Oh man, it took me a while with scratched up and blood drawn hand. You need little hands to do it. It's all feel as you are blind doing it. Try to remember how it came out, put in the same way and turn it opposite. I know this is not much of help. It is hell to do.
@@MBGAdventures Thanks finally got it. Weird the 2 sides same deal but one so hard. I think the problem is using left hand (not was coord) in tight space I wasted huge amount of time w/ it off angle. There is no real positive feel for angle - if is loose fit and does not bottom out hard.' Thanks
Miiike! Yikes! Headlight replacement...UGH! I just did it Saturday on my wife's 2014 Ford Fusion. 1st and LAST time!! You have to take half the front end apart to change a bulb! WTH!! But, it beats $330 labor at the dealership. Good video, Brother. A little disappointed that some TRG wasn't playing in the background! haha! God bless.
Louuuu! OMG, you should see what you have to do on my Ford F250 to change a bulb. You have to take the front end apart. Seriously. Not sure why car manufactures have to make it difficult. They want you to take it into the dealer to make money. Ha, TRG. the intro music is done my Tony in my band. Thanks for watching and supporting Lou!
This is a great video. My wife's car is actually a Volkswagen Jetta sportwagon tdi. It's an absolute great car. I'll need to keep watching this video when I replace the headlight
VW makes solid cars. As easy as a bulb change sound, sometimes they are difficult. My son Justin will be taking it over, (well partially buying it off us lol). Lynn wants to get a standard car again. We miss stick. Looking at a Toyota Corolla SE this evening. 6 speed manual and fully loaded.
Hi Evan, I have no idea. Maybe look up on google and see if you can find a diagram of the light wire or call VW dealer and explain it to the parts department and 100% they will know. Good luck!
I dropped the driver side clip in to the engine compartment once; drove around for a week, hit my local junkyard, couldn't find a replacement for it... Finally I got my telescoping magnet and I found it still stuck in the compartment lower down; Good luck getting yours replaced!
@@lexihaley2887 thanks for the reply. Coincidentally the exact same thing happened to me. I found the clip sitting on the inside of the bumper. Was hard enough to get it out but saved me a lot of money.
Trust me, even with small hands it's a challenge. Because I can get my hand in there but there is no room to move and I have no finger strength. And I'm not taking no tire off. I have a 2016 GLI. Its so embarrassing struggling 😅
The other way is to take the lamp assembly out. On our Jetta, you have to take the grill off to access bolts. Unplug the assembly and now you have a direct angle to fight it. Learned that after the fact lol.
Love that intro Mike. Dimly works for me Lol. They make everything so tight now where you can't get to anything without taking the whole car apart Lol. Wow that bulb really gave you a hard time. That looks really good for a 2014, but they really are great cars. Hopefully the other bulb don't go out. I hope I didn't jinx you Lol. Great video as always brother.

@@MBGAdventures Well I've said worse Lol. Oh man I can't imagine changing a bulb on them. I bet it's hell. Oh yea very great shape. Your very welcome Mike.
SAFETY items should be 1-2-3 EASY to do on the side of the road in an emergency, THERE OUGHT TO BE A LAW!!!! We need to get a list of the cost of these kind of routine maintenance items BEFORE PURCHASE to see what the REAL cost of ownership is - maybe manufacturers would then have an incentive to make at least these things easy and cheap. Thanks for confirming that removing the entire headlight assembly may be the only way for normal-size folks to do this - ARGH!

100% most are not honest and there are edits. Since then I figured that it's just easier to take out the light assembly and do it on a work bench. Better angle. Some take the bumper off and grill, I figured out an easier way to get it out. Thanks for watching. This actually my number one watched video lol. No wonder why lol. Damn VW.
This is literally the dumbest design I’ve ever dealt with. I’ve had to change this bulb several times and every time something that should take two minutes end up being nothing but frustration.
Not sure how you are going with this. Its not rocket science, take off back cover, use your hand to take bulb out. The point of my video is to show where the location is to get to the headlight bub as well, if you have bigger hands, it's a real challenge. Job for smaller hands for sure! Thanks for watching Rod!

I’m not necessarily complaining, but this video got me putting this off for a month in dread. When I finally did it, I got it in 2 mins…
