My personal headcanon, even after watching this, is it's azrael's suit. Bane still broke the bat at some point but of course he got better and after lending jean-paul an early prototype (yellow) suit, takes it back and shamelessly displays it next to everyone else's retired crap, making fans across the world who even noticed such things to question their reality. Besides, what other major bat-family adult male ally did he have at the time, either in comics or show. Bold strategy Cotton..
The most logical answer is that it's simply an updated version of the Bat armor he wore when he fought Firefly, which will eventually be the inspiration for the Beyond suit in the future.
The only thing I want discussed right now is...why the hell hasn't a live action Batman Beyond movie been made? People are already getting sick a regular Batman. This needs to happen before all interest is lost

Loved the fact Sean Murphy paid homage to this suit. In Beyond the White Knight Bruce ends up using this suit so he could go up against the superior, more high tech beyond suit, without running the risk of being caught by sensors or any futuristic gizmo.

I know I'm 2 years late in this response, but hi! I'm one of the co-writers of the Batman Immortal fan-film and I appreciate the shout-out! When we wrote the yellow Batsuit into our film, we figured it was almost certainly a re-used background with a slight edit, but decided to make it "canon". The first six months of our writing process involved combing through the entire DCAU, making sure that nothing we wrote directly contradicted canon, and happened across the yellow Beyond suit and figured "why the hell not". Originally we were going to use the cape one, but decided on the yellow one primarily because of Starcrossed. Anyways, great video!

And in particular the Galaxy model was a PITA to work with. During remaster (not just a high resolution release) they fixed this stuff where possible. Apparently they did not go that extra mile for Justice League.

That Batsuit Insignia is Yellow like Batgirl's. Bruce developed/started developing the suit after Barbara developed PTSD or something, to make her more powerful in the field. But she didn't respond to it or the technology was faulty or risky like the later bat armor. Bruce kept it around because it was an ongoing project/backup plan and could stretch and conform to any body type and later informed or became the Beyond suit. The later second beyond suit is just a tech less fabric copy to scratch the OCD of Bruce having an incomplete stand after 20 years. Or someone made a mistake. But that's impossible because they're Gods.
that's actually hilarious. the idea that bruce is so used to seeing the full case and having 100% control over his legacy, that having the suit gone while terry is out irks him so much he went to Party City and BOUGHT a batman costume just to fill the gap. like, can you imagine old bruce angrily shopping for Rubie's costume quality batman costumes while someone else's small child is running around him making a racket while wearing one of those plastic batman masks that only cover the face and are held on with a string? 🤣🤣🤣
6:30 also in Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker, when Terry throws his backpack with his Batsuit in it on the ground and runs up the Bat-stairs (see what i did there) to leave the Batcave after Bruce tells him he doesn't want him to be Batman anymore, as Terry is running up the Bat-stairs, you can see the Batman Byond suit in the display case while also being in Terry's backpack on the floor, I noticed this when I recently watched Return Of The Joker on HBO Max, i laughed really hard when I saw it and i thought of this video too.

Here’s just a thought. I think there would’ve been a problem if they just re-colored the red parts of the suit is gray. Then it would resemble that fire proof bat suit from the new Batman adventures that had the gray logo and the old covering mask.

Came looking for this again after four years, that batsuit, we might finally have an answer in the Batman Beyond the White Knight issue I think 2 or 3, where Bats goes to get the new batsuit from Harleys basement, its a futuristic batsuit with a yellow symbol just like this one
Personally I see why he couldn't make 2 different suits like the giant Armor and the yellow bat suit Because Batman definitely had multiple suits for special occasions
If we assume that it wasn't a mistake but go for Bruce Timm's "anything on screen is canon": Batman has his standard batsuit, later makes a few other variations of his suit and a fireproof bat armor as seen in TNBA, later starts to develop a stealth suit (with a yellow bat symbol) with the technology of the invisible man from "See no Evil" by making the suit resistable to the radiation of the invisibility technology (this is also why the suit is fireproof and radiation resistant as seen in fights with Blight in the future). He may have developed and tested this stealth suit during JL time and this is why we see it in "Starcrossed". Later when he starts to get weaker he makes a mechanical arm with servos as seen in the flashback in the first issue of the Beyond comics, then makes the whole big exosuit out of "this stuff", then realizes it's too bulky and puts "too much strain on his heart" around the time of the near apocalypse of '09 when he almost died probably and decided to get back to the stealth prototype (with a yellow bat symbol on it) and improve it with the newer advanced servos of doctor Corso who we see in "April moon". He used this prototype for a while and in the meantime developed an improved version of it (that he painted with a red bat symbol on it), added more functions to it like built in cables, batarangs, disc shooters and other stuff and put the old, weaker yellow prototype suit away somewhere. After all of this Terry comes along in BB and uses the red suit but it gets stolen in "Lost soul". At the time Bruce tries to discourage Terry from going after it by mentioning some of his old costumes with bullet holes in them but Terry goes anyway. After this accident Bruce decided that they need a second suit as a backup, pulls the yellow one out of the closet, repaints it red, upgrades it to be more like the improved red suit and they hang it on the Batcave display to have a spare if something like this happens again. 6:28 If he can make one, he can make a second. This is why we see a second red suit in the cave in many episodes ONLY after "Lost soul" - in ROTJ when Terry leaves the cave, in "The Call" pt.I when they get the kryptonite, the "History Lesson" short by Darwyn Cooke and other stuff. LONGEST COMMENT I ever wrote. Will it canon? You tell me. And while we're at it make a follow-up video to this one. It's a very successful one.
If you want to indulge any of the below theories you can substitute the "stealth suit" part with any of these: 1. It could have belonged to a version of the Cassandra Cane Batgirl, Batwing or The Signal (mainstream comics sidekicks) if they were in the DCAU; 2. Could have been a version of Azrael's costume if something like The Adventures Continue has happened; 3. If Barbara lost her ability to walk in the DCAU it could have been made to help her walk and be Batgirl again (World's Finest theory from their Dark Knight Adventures comics); 4. Could have been made to have servos to enhance the strength and speed by aging Bruce Wayne to help him fight during the near apocalypse of '09 (Project Batman theory for the "Batman Immortal" fan film/audio drama). + an interesting version of a yellow batsuit just appeared in the Batman Catwoman comic (that introduces the Phantasm in mainstream comics) and it's worn by *[spoiler at the end]*. It has a yellow bat symbol, yellow gloves, ears are more wide apart like in "Starcrossed", retractable wings like the Beyond suit that are stored in the back of an armor chest piece that is very similar to early Batman Beyond armor concept design. *The spoiler: Helena Wayne
Srsly, people, WTF is up with the DCAU designs (or at least the preliminary versions shown at 3:20 anyways, having all the women be 2/3 of the height; that appears in far too much anime to be honest. It makes the men they're involved with seem somewhat disreputable.
The yellow suit could be a really early version of the beyond suit. I could see a mix of overheating or trouble charging being the reason it was abonded.
Funny, because I remember in the Batman Beyond episode: Meltdown, when Terry was somewhat stuck in a block of ice, the bat on the suit was blue. And then in the very last episode: unmasked, the bat on the suit was yellow when he was walking in the fire to save the kid. But apart from that, the bat was red. Although, I still found it to be cool and I am a huge Batman Beyond fan. I don't know if the examples I mentioned above were mistakes, or maybe the creators thought that it would be cool to add some sort of special effect when Terry was in a different kind of environment. But if that's the case, why didn't they make the bat blue when Terry was in the fortress of solitude (episode: the call)? P.s. I enjoyed the video and the humor

Came looking for this again after four years, that batsuit, we might finally have an answer in the Batman Beyond the White Knight issue I think 2 or 3, where Bats goes to get the new batsuit from Harleys basement, its a futuristic batsuit with a yellow symbol just like this one

Personally I see why he couldn't make 2 different suits like the giant Armor and the yellow bat suit Because Batman definitely had multiple suits for special occasions

If we assume that it wasn't a mistake but go for Bruce Timm's "anything on screen is canon":
Batman has his standard batsuit, later makes a few other variations of his suit and a fireproof bat armor as seen in TNBA, later starts to develop a stealth suit (with a yellow bat symbol) with the technology of the invisible man from "See no Evil" by making the suit resistable to the radiation of the invisibility technology (this is also why the suit is fireproof and radiation resistant as seen in fights with Blight in the future). He may have developed and tested this stealth suit during JL time and this is why we see it in "Starcrossed". Later when he starts to get weaker he makes a mechanical arm with servos as seen in the flashback in the first issue of the Beyond comics, then makes the whole big exosuit out of "this stuff", then realizes it's too bulky and puts "too much strain on his heart" around the time of the near apocalypse of '09 when he almost died probably and decided to get back to the stealth prototype (with a yellow bat symbol on it) and improve it with the newer advanced servos of doctor Corso who we see in "April moon". He used this prototype for a while and in the meantime developed an improved version of it (that he painted with a red bat symbol on it), added more functions to it like built in cables, batarangs, disc shooters and other stuff and put the old, weaker yellow prototype suit away somewhere.
After all of this Terry comes along in BB and uses the red suit but it gets stolen in "Lost soul". At the time Bruce tries to discourage Terry from going after it by mentioning some of his old costumes with bullet holes in them but Terry goes anyway. After this accident Bruce decided that they need a second suit as a backup, pulls the yellow one out of the closet, repaints it red, upgrades it to be more like the improved red suit and they hang it on the Batcave display to have a spare if something like this happens again. 6:28 If he can make one, he can make a second. This is why we see a second red suit in the cave in many episodes ONLY after "Lost soul" - in ROTJ when Terry leaves the cave, in "The Call" pt.I when they get the kryptonite, the "History Lesson" short by Darwyn Cooke and other stuff.

If you want to indulge any of the below theories you can substitute the "stealth suit" part with any of these:
1. It could have belonged to a version of the Cassandra Cane Batgirl, Batwing or The Signal (mainstream comics sidekicks) if they were in the DCAU;
2. Could have been a version of Azrael's costume if something like The Adventures Continue has happened;
3. If Barbara lost her ability to walk in the DCAU it could have been made to help her walk and be Batgirl again (World's Finest theory from their Dark Knight Adventures comics);
4. Could have been made to have servos to enhance the strength and speed by aging Bruce Wayne to help him fight during the near apocalypse of '09 (Project Batman theory for the "Batman Immortal" fan film/audio drama).
+ an interesting version of a yellow batsuit just appeared in the Batman Catwoman comic (that introduces the Phantasm in mainstream comics) and it's worn by *[spoiler at the end]*. It has a yellow bat symbol, yellow gloves, ears are more wide apart like in "Starcrossed", retractable wings like the Beyond suit that are stored in the back of an armor chest piece that is very similar to early Batman Beyond armor concept design.

Srsly, people, WTF is up with the DCAU designs (or at least the preliminary versions shown at 3:20 anyways, having all the women be 2/3 of the height; that appears in far too much anime to be honest. It makes the men they're involved with seem somewhat disreputable.

The yellow suit could be a really early version of the beyond suit. I could see a mix of overheating or trouble charging being the reason it was abonded.
It's OBVIOUSLY a stylized version of the 1989 Michael Keaton batsuit.
Funny, because I remember in the Batman Beyond episode: Meltdown, when Terry was somewhat stuck in a block of ice, the bat on the suit was blue. And then in the very last episode: unmasked, the bat on the suit was yellow when he was walking in the fire to save the kid. But apart from that, the bat was red. Although, I still found it to be cool and I am a huge Batman Beyond fan. I don't know if the examples I mentioned above were mistakes, or maybe the creators thought that it would be cool to add some sort of special effect when Terry was in a different kind of environment. But if that's the case, why didn't they make the bat blue when Terry was in the fortress of solitude (episode: the call)?
