    • @bloodgain
      @bloodgain 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuperAWaC Well, I have one that's about 10 years old and one that's older (14 years, I think?), and aside from some normal wear and tear from almost daily use, they're both in excellent condition. They have a few loose stitches or tears in non-visible places where the fabric touches wood, usually because people (me) push off those places to readjust their position. They need a little lithium grease where metal meets metal once in a while to kill squeaks. But the wood and overall frame is still in _excellent_ condition, as is most of the fabric, to my surprise.
      Now, I do agree that they're steeply marked up. La-Z-Boy can be hard to haggle down, too, unless that's just my local place. But since they've lasted WAY longer than any other recliner I've had, I probably came out ahead. And believe me, I assumed it was a gamble, but I was tired of replacing junk chairs, so I figured it was worth a shot.

    I had bought a recliner from Morris that failed (snapped) within a month of use- and we're not a 'heavy' family. I could have fixed it in the same manner as you did and made it even better than it was, but it wasn't even a second hand purchase let alone a trash pick and I refused to do that to a brand new chair that turned out to have workmanship not even worthy of the dollar store. (The gall some furniture manufactures/retailers have to pass off absolute crap as quality is beneath my understanding!) I returned the chair and after a long battle with the retailer and mediation from the BBB I got all of my money back.

      I am currently working on repairing the wood frame on a 1995 Franklin recliner I saw on the side of the road. It was just like the large recliner I had slept in for 6 years, but due to moving company's policies they wouldn't help me load it in the car, so I had to leave it at the storage place. I haven't had a decent night's sleep in over a year. I am so grateful for videos like this. And yes, I do have a Shark steam cleaner.. I do like to be able to reuse and repurpose things, and not be so wasteful. And with the economy the way it is right now, it's a damn good idea. Soon I and my two furry children will be sleeping in comfort in this huge recliner.. 😁😸😸

    I got a similar one for my kids! They just love it! Had to fix it in a similar way! Great job!

    Wait, so those L brackets weren't for a repair attempt from the previous owner? They were part of the original construction?

    Good video bro. Crafty 🤙🏻 Need to figure how to do this for my recliner

  • @JDeWittDIY

    I'd make a minor effort to at least make sure it doesn't have bedbugs. I have a free recliner I'm using but I made a point of knocking on the door and talking to the people. I also sneaked a peek inside the house at the same time to help judge their cleanliness. :)

      I'd lay out some cut up straws overnight too, just to rule out any potential Peehole-Crawler Silverfish infestation.

      Bedbugs aren't an indication or symptom of cleanliness. You can pick them up at a hotel, movie theater, or work place. They're evil.

    • @jTempVids
      @jTempVids 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. At least steam it and spray it with 90% isopropyl alcohol. Then if you want to go a little further you can spray it with some pyrethrin and/or dust the chair with some DE powder or better yet CimeXa dust.

      If you really want to be sure you can put the piece of furniture in a large bag with one of the Hot Shot No-Pest Strips. They will kill everything. You leave it for a few days.

    I have two identical La-Z-Boy leather recliners which were $1,200 each, about 15 yrs old. One frame structure broke. Took apart and replaced components with 3/4" plywood, glued and screwed. Factory staples and lousy craftsmanship suck.

    A well thought out repair--better than new. [I am a bit surprised--Lane is a relatively well-known maker of (I thought) better-than-average furniture...to fasten an angle bracket with staples is not an approved method, I'm sure]

    • @tinamcdonald93
      @tinamcdonald93 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lane USED be a quality furniture brand, started using the foreign plywood that had massive amounts of voids in it and the recliners fall apart like crazy.
