    American political scientist John J. Mearsheimer on Tuesday described India as an “aspiring great power” that is growing strength to strength in the geopolitical rivalry involving the United States, China, and Russia. Speaking during a session at CNN News18’s Rising Bharat Summit 2024 in New Delhi, Mearsheimer said that the United States was the most powerful country on the planet during the unipolar phase, which started with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and lasted roughly till the mid-2010s.

    I think INDIA will have to do a lot more than talk on forums , when the Chinese had a GDP as India is now they did not spend their time trying to get validation from anybody , they knew they were not there , NOW EVERYBODY in the WORLD ,Including the USA KNOWS THEY ARE There....when you reach a super power status the world will know even if you do not recognize it yourself.

      India's GDP is slightly higher than the total combined GDP of sub-Saharan Africa. GDP per capita wise is is ranked 138 out of 191 countries. The bottom 30%. Even with India's GDP growing at 10% a year for the next 35 years in 2060, it 's GDP will still be the same level as China's in 2023, or the US's in 2015. India has never achieved a 10% annual GDP growth. The closes it got was in 1975, 1988, 1999 and 2021. Its average annual GDP growth historically had been between 3-6%. Let's say India's GDP growth averages 6% moving forward, it will take India close to 60 years to achieve China's 2023 GDP, or the US's in 2015.
      India is lacking behind in all technological indicators. I am talking about way behind. Today, China leads globally in 37 out of 44 crucial technologies. USA leads in the other 7. India leads in none.

    Mearsheimer's argument misses a very big point here. The US didn't abandon cooperation with China for containment because they saw China didn't convert to a "democracy". The best example is Japan. When japan in the 80s was rivalling US economically, they did the same to Japan and Japan hasn't been able to recover since. So this argument of democracies is a hogwash. Dont challenge america's economic hegemony is the only message out there. hence India should be very weary of getting too cozy to the US.

      The jet engine deal definitely won’t be 100% ToT but it would be as much that would significantly shorten our own R&D and time spent in catch up to that tech.
      We can develop that tech on our own but time isn’t on our side.

    American Political Scientist John Mearsheimer on Tuesday described India as an "aspiring great power" that is growing strength to strength in the geopolitical rivalry involving United States, China, Russia. Speaking during a session at CNN News 18's Rising Bharat Summit 2024 in New Delhi, Mearsheimer said that the United States was the most powerful country on the planet during the unipolar phase, which started with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and issued roughly till the mid 2010s.
    Arguing from a realist perspective, he said the world today was a multipolar one where great powers are vying for dominance. "By 2017, Vladimir Putin had rescued Russia from the dead and Russia was back as the great power -- and China (too) because of all the economic growth that had taken place, during the 1990s and the first 17 years of the 21st century," said Mearsheimer during the session titled ;Geo Calculus' cracking code, the US expert said the world is now in a system where there are three great powers, namely, China, Russia, and the United States.

    • @darthvadeth6290

      India isn't a South East Asian nation. It's not a great superpower either. It does not have the capability to become a "hegemon" in anywhere except within India itself.
      If sub-Saharan countries decide to consolidate into one union, will it be considered a superpower just by mere size?

    I am deeply puzzled by John Mearsheimer's logics. He claims himself as a realist, and then he has his opinion on how the US establishment should handle Russia and Ukraine, and he is well aware that his opinion is not adopted by the US establishment; on the other hand, he has his opinion on how US should deal with China and Taiwan, in particular, fight for Taiwan if China adopts a military approach for the unification, and he is still 100% confident that the US establishment will act as he wishes...not to mention he has ignored all the facts that the US pulled out from Afghanistan and did not send troops to fight for Ukraine. As a realist, can he tell wishes from reality? LOL...

    • @hrduan7674
      @hrduan7674 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think John's logic is highly consistent. The question is not whether the U.S. government is willing to adopt his opinions, or even the opinions of a large group of people, but how strong the government's willingness to go to war is. Obviously the U.S. government’s willingness for war is quite strong. Since it is willing to encourage and sponsor Ukraine, which is not so important to its strategic interests, to go to war with Russia, it is very likely that it will directly participate in the war in the Taiwan Strait, which is extremely important to its strategic interests. Yes, I think this is John's thinking logic.
