Guys who buy their cars sometimes get squeamish about scratching the paint because they still owe money on it and they have no clue how to fix it themselves.
I think what is missing here is most of the time the built car costs more. Ever specced good stuff? $15k for a good fuel injection system. $30k for a blower setup. $5k here, $10k there. And all the labor that goes into it. If you're not doing it, you're paying thousands on thousands for someone to do it for you. Versus the weekend warrior who wrote a check and is having just as much fun, with a warranty, and for less money
MSRP on a Hellcat starts at like $75K and I’m pretty you can’t touch one for less than $100K. A basic Mustang GT isn’t really even going to beat anything and it’ll cost you $50K new. My friend’s sub-11 second Civic Hatchback cost him blood and sweat and about $10K all in. With a Hellcat budget he could probably reach lower orbit. @@t_c5266 see there we are probably talking about different eras. For starters I’m not talking about Coyote Mustangs. Those didn’t exist when I was around him. Secondly, a 1999 Civic hatchback weighs about 1,600lbs less than the same year Mustang…which is the Mustangs we were shitting on. You’d have to strap your sand rail to a Civic to make a Mustang’s weight class. The biggest mod he made to the engine was swapping it out entirely for a larger vehicle’s engine and installing a cheap turbo kit. I wouldn’t even argue it was a good build or that it still runs. It almost certainly doesn’t. But when it was good it was great. Scary fast FWD ain’t for me though. Shit ain’t right.

But it was enough And the work only was like 2000
Yeah youre straight capping the Toyota Previa was the only supercharged Toyota van and the speedo went up to 110 and stock top speed was 115. Aerodynamically youre not going 200 in that thing without at least 6-800hp... Come on bruh.
"Built vs bought" is such a low class phrase. We all put time in to go fast. How you get it done doesn't matter. I've built and bought and it's the same sweat.
That's why I loved games like Forza Horizon 5 which exposed builds of weak stock cars -> great modded cars. And let's be honest, who doesn't like "underdog" to win? That aside, even if I got my dream car (Dodge Viper SRT 10) I totally wouldn't shit on "weak" looking cars. I doubt people doing drags in stock sports cars treat them as "weak" competitors either. Custom build was always OP.
Built Vs. Bought is quite literally just Stock vs. Unrestricted. It’s not really that hard of a modification to make a Mustang Dark Horse beat any of these cars.
I feel like most of the "bought" cars also double as daily drivers. The built cars are mostly dedicated drag racing cars, which I assume are extremely unreliable compared to the original stock configuration. You can make a car a LOT faster if all it's really expected to do is make a 1/4 mile between maintenance intervals and anything unnecessary for that task can be stripped out. Really shouldn't even be in the same class for the most part.
But that's not exactly correct. In many cases a built car wasn't at the level of a bought car. But the made it level up by working on it using their own intellect and hard work. The bought car, they paid a professional team to do all that for them.
@@jimmyboy131 Wrong, Bought Cars are meant to be…. Cars. They go on Highways at sixty miles an hour. Now certain cars like Mustangs are meant to go fast, but they’re meant mainly to drive places. A built car has one purpose. Racing. Bought cars have restrictions like trying not to go under ten miles a gallon, and trying not to break down after 50k miles.
@@kindsteel5 A built car can be a race only car, but that's not what I'm thinking of. I'm thinking of a driving car that has been modified for greater performance.
I don't get it. It's not even about Built vs Bought. All these cars are running against themselves. If you had a 20 second car, nailed the light every time and came in right on the 20 second mark. You would be the race winner, every single time. It's not about the car, it's about the driver.
Built cars are great and the mechanics that build them are amazing but this is only fair if they were built on the same price point God only knows how much a built car was put into it and you have to deduct the price of the new car from it once you do that you'll have a fair comparison on what it cost to get that horsepower
Built is cheaper, that’s like half the reason most of us started building. Don’t forget the overhead of the big companies and engineers. It’s nice that people with minimal knowledge or understanding can get behind 600+ horsepower with the swipe of a credit card though and have some fun. There isn’t really an argument for which is better it’s all subjective and up to personal preference. Edit: there’s also guys who can afford super cars and build them or have them built so when the guys who build cheaper cars run into one of those idk what they say😂 but any car can win on any given day if you put the right parts into it.
@devenp.5508 well built should be cheaper depending on how crazy you go if your designing your own frame up sky's the limits you can easily drop $100,000
@pHixiq how so? Do you deny that it takes skill to build amd maintain your own car? Or do you deny that it takes a good credit score to buy a track competive stock car? Which part of that is false? Unless you are a 1%er you are financing that purchase, in order to finance a purchase like that, you have to have a good credit score.
I always go for the underdog myself the guy with a few less dollars in his pocket. I suppose it comes back to having a cheap car as a young bloke myself and remembering the smart asses driving a car given to them by the bank of mum and dad. The time and effort to build something yourself I admire and also the character of those people that do it themselves.

That looks like the same beetle Volkswagen that came out on Happy Gilmore
I would love it if Disney made another Herbie movie, and he TORCHES some dude’s Charger on the 1/4 mile. That’s what that looked like. Beautiful!
Lol that last one.. he forgot to hit the pedal when the light turned green
One thing about guys who build their own cars is that they know how it went together, and most of us aren't afraid to burn that car to the ground for a W. Guys who buy their cars sometimes get squeamish about scratching the paint because they still owe money on it and they have no clue how to fix it themselves.
3:52 The Blur Class D experience.
not a honda fan but it is incredible how 1.5 litre inline 4s can keep up with 3-5 liter v8 or v6s
Built is always better because you know...
the Patina Beetle though lmao
Who would have thought that drag racers and pc builders have so much in common
🤣
I think that was a Dodge SuperStock, super rare!
Modded beetles are my favorite
Nice
did both those civics at the end blow up? smh.
You might want to check what your warranty says about drag racing.
@@admdubya2107 please explain his kit that totaled to $10k.
And as you do it, look up those parts on summit before you belive the $10k number.
I tell people I spent only $3k on my sand rail, knowing damn well is closer to $6k. With all labor done myself and no large item purchases like intakes or carbs.
If he's got a civic that runs faster than a 5.0 mustang he's dropped some serious coin on it, considering they come stock with 120hp versus the mustang 400+
@@admdubya2107 I guess that kinda is the difference right? The hellcat will race all day and then also drive home. And do it again each weekend without touching it. The civic was probably a deathtrap each go and had to be rebuilt every other week
@@t_c5266 mostly fair…I’d only counter that the Hellcat apparently doesn’t actually get traction until third gear going 105 if you aren’t at the track lol. That’s sketchy as hell too.
Herbie the Love Bug goes drag 😂
Amazing how twin turbos with additives destorys all modern vehicles above 100 Gs
Until you put the turbo on the bought car......
Turns out if you force an insane amount of boost in an engine and tune the fuel appropriately, car go fast. (Assuming the engine doesn't destroy itself in the process)
I think those last 2 Cars at the end may have suffered some engine damage maybe.
I dunno why as I ain't a professional into these, but best I can say is that after Racing/Drag, Best to let the car engine and Tires sometimes cooldown for sometime.
That silver Nova!
What happened to that poor civic at 3:40??
I’m guessing they wanted to shift into 4th but accidentally shifted into 2nd… aka a money shift ⚙️💥
Had a Toyota super charged van, that bit a Shelby mustang on the freeway.
That thing could go over 200 mph.Going 160, you step on it, and the passing gear would kick in,at almost 200, fifth would kick in and kept gaining speed, but my speedometer only went up to 200,so i never found out the top speed.
But it was enough
And the work only was like 2000
Cap
Yeah youre straight capping the Toyota Previa was the only supercharged Toyota van and the speedo went up to 110 and stock top speed was 115. Aerodynamically youre not going 200 in that thing without at least 6-800hp... Come on bruh.
Cool story bruh

"Built vs bought" is such a low class phrase. We all put time in to go fast. How you get it done doesn't matter.
I've built and bought and it's the same sweat.
Objectively it's not buying is the end of your work building you have to build a car silly
Sounds like someone bought a car that got smoked by a built car 😂😂
@@brocksamson9737 nah, my bought speed is a few sportbikes over the years. :)
@@icecl0udyeah bikes are an entirely different beast my dude 😬
@@S.rosalie.lopez1 uh huh. That's not what car dudes say when they win. ;)
Must be an American thing you rarely see bought untouched cars on the drag strips in Australia.
I don't get it. It's not even about Built vs Bought. All these cars are running against themselves. If you had a 20 second car, nailed the light every time and came in right on the 20 second mark. You would be the race winner, every single time. It's not about the car, it's about the driver.
I was hoping the volcho could win that race. :(
MY GN !!!
Bashing built cars is lazy and uneducated. You take a car that has no guys and turn it into a beast, that's a thing of beauty.
Built will always win even if its slower because building is awesome
This wat I live for😂
Built cars are great and the mechanics that build them are amazing but this is only fair if they were built on the same price point God only knows how much a built car was put into it and you have to deduct the price of the new car from it once you do that you'll have a fair comparison on what it cost to get that horsepower
a lot of bought stock cars are more expensive than built ones

Built is skill and dedication
Bought is a good credit score
Not really true lmao.
@pHixiq how so?
