Awesome job man! Helpful for 90% of players with a 3d printer. It good and all to see an expert painting a 5 hour miniature but most of us are really happy to play with this level of stuff, and don't get me wrong it's just fine!
I would highly recommend to do a drybrush with less paint in a circular motion. Also, there are way bigger make up brushes, so those will save you a lot of time :D
Thank you for putting the link in the description and telling us where you got the board, I really like it I might 3D print my own, all of your kill team stuff that you've been setting up and painting the last few months looks really great man thanks for all the tips on on setting up different things
For large-scale painting like this, you might want to take a look at Green Stuff World dipping inks - not quite as saturated as speed paint, but even more affordable, and for the price actually really good! They also come in giant bottles, which makes it quite useful for the amount of paint you need for terrain
Next time you're printing your floor tiles, if you want to preserve some of the depth of the surface detail, you can use one of a few free programs like Meshmixer, Blender, or even Microsoft 3d Builder (I think) to boolean difference or cut away the material you don't need. The table looks great though!
Thats the problem though is the floor depth creates issues. I sold off my Necromunda floors for a game mat that looks similar because the bumpy bits always made laying down terrain a PITA.
@@h347h A good point, also at this scale sometimes the depth of the detail equates to half a foot or more which is excessive. I wasn't sure flattenning the tiles was a good idea but the end result proves otherwise.
Even easier is just push models under the build plate directly in slicer. And if those recesses in floor would be too deep he could scale the overall thickens down to 50% for example first.
My current rust technique is a deep red-brown with pink and a pastel pink-white randomly stippled and dry brushed over then a yellow wash followed by a flesh wash if I need it a deeper color.
Great idea! Ive wanted to do something similar but with a metal sheeting base so the magnets just stick to the floor, so you dont have to stick to a grid
My personal go to for terrain like this is black prime, hammered copper rattle can, dry rush of silkver and ablack wash. I'm particular about details so I paint every wire, light, and pipe too. I love the rusty, without look it gives. But this looks like a blueish light is cast all over which gives a very different somber feel!
I would suggest to paint doors and other important bits in an easily recognizable color to help forming an overview of the board layout faster; paint the handles bright red or similar.
I often start with a burnt umber base coat, then a few patches of burnt sienna, then heavy drybrush of silver or gunmetal. This gives a good background rust effect but with surface “traffic” areas rubbed back to bare metal. You can always enhance it by masking around a few areas, applying some toothpaste with a sponge, spraying a different colour, then scrubbing with warm water to reveal a chipped paint effect.
Hi, what made you want another set of similar walls when you already had some? You’ve kept the tabs on the new walls and are not going to magnetised these ones? Can you do an update on your GW walls about how and why you have now fully magnetised them, since your initial having only some of it magnetised video? I’m starting my GW walls shortly and any ideas how to fully magnetised them would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hi, the main thing I wanted here is to have everything so it kinda stuck to the floor, with GW's stuff everytime I went to open a door everything moved, this new board and wall pieces nothing moves 🙂
Great video! Perfect use for the floor tiles and 3d printing. Just expanding on the idea a little, you have some height between the dice trays and the main board. You could stack several flat MDF thickness board tiles and using magnets in the exact same places the board itself could also be modular. Imagine your setup with two more interchangeable boards on it for a bit of modular board variety. I would put felt of some type of soft layer on the bottom of those to prevent any damage to the board stacked under it but really great idea here. If you kept the boards uniform and flat, it looks like you could have 3-4 boards within the height of the dice trays.
Hey yeah thats a pretty cool idea, I have thought about having small areas of floor above the ground floor just to make the game even more interesting 🙂
Nice board, I'm looking forward building one myself. Magnets in floor are nice idea but I'm afraid it's not good idea in practice. Many people as myself have magnetised bases of all models. And for the printing if you want to preserve more detail and little deeper recesses in floor easiest way is to just push your models partly under your build plate in slicer. It will automatically cut bottom off. You can combine it with scaling to achieve proper depth of details.
Awesome idea! Love the little section for token holders & Dice! Tempted to give this a go myself! Love your ideas for making things look cool and yet super easy to take out and play.
Just an idea how to reduce the height of the tiles without flattening the details. You could either prepare the files in the freeware "Slic3r" or you could lower the tiles below the buildplate so only the parts you want to print stick out. Other than that ... great build!
@@MiniatureHobbyist great. Obviously the details weren’t distorted enough to be of concern? I picked these up for FDM printing but now I may try resin.
Look into oil paints and mineral spirits. They can be pricey but you'll never run out. Also, if you like Slap Chop you'll probably like oil paints and mineral spirits.
You could have maintained the detail depth by just doing a boolean function on the underside of the tiles in Blender. When I get around to designing my own I'll make the underside hollowed so they can be magnetized but use minimal resin. Also make it possible to put LEDs under the floor.
How much would you sell one of these for? Also, I'm going to start my TH-cam content journey in the new year and would love to do a collab vid of painting or something mate :)
I would use cheap acrylic hobby paints and find some random metallic paints and keep the walls the way you have and just lightly dry brush on top with a small amount of metallic
Hi Tyler, yeah thats similar to what I did with the Into the Dark box set walls, I kinda want to add some colour but not sure which and how vibrant it should be lol 🙂

GW "legal". Come on, the only guys that care about only using GW bits are their own stores and hardly even them
Yup and I only ever play friendly games so can do what I like 🙂
I dunno, there’s a LOT of rabid fanbois
You're so humble. But also a freaking pro! Love your channel
YOOOOO THIS IS GREAT HOBBY ART 😱
Board looks fantastic. Good work.
Would Like to see some of you kill team games
I will do some battle reports once me and my mate know the rules better without keep checking lol 🙂
would a bronzer brush like midwinter minis used help with something this big?
Wow, that looks great! Nice work! I'm going to have to get a 3D printer someday. Do you have a link to the brushes you use?

Awesome! I'm really happy to see how those looked squished down! That's extremely helpful information! 👌
You did an amazing job with the floors and walls, so much detail that still looks great squished, I am a cheapskate lol 🙂
This looks super sharp! Good job!
Looks great!
That's cool. I'm surprised how well those tiles came out after they were squished so much. The monochrome walls have a really neat graphical quality.
Is there somewhere I can purchase these boards

nice
You should make a Blood Bowl pitch and some Necromunda buildings and just embrace a few more addictive GW games
Haha if I had the money I would, Im addicted to Kill Team and thats expensive enough on its own 🙂
Very nice, your warhammer stuff is looking great!

Magnetic lids for the top of the trays.
Yup I have magnets in the trays so will make lids one day 🙂

Haha yup, I cut the tabs off my GW ones and magnetised them instead 🙂

A magnetized board like that could make d&d dungeon crawling so much better!
Yeah its great for keeping everything in placed and so easy to move and change around 🙂
