I remember hearing an interesting tidbit about Fool in that it was the only song Chris Rea played the piano instead of the guitar.
He does play the piano on this.

If memory serves me right, I remember Chris Rea saying something about the record label trying to market him to the audience as a popular piano player after this song was a big hit. Chris had said something like how he felt it mis-represented him because he preferred to play guitar... something along those lines.

That is the first version of this song, you can hear the second version here, which was the commercial version, with a different orchestration, a bit faster, with a verse in less : th-cam.com/video/cCd88ub_Tc8/w-d-xo.html, that I like too . Chris Rea always made two versions of his hits (On the Beach, Josephine, Driving home for Christmas). That is my favourite Chris Rea's song, with On the Beach, of course.
Great choice Brandon to do some more Chris Rea. Fool If You Think It's Over was a great song and became a massive hit in the UK when also covered by Elkie Brookes around 1980. Chris has such a brilliant catalogue of beautiful melodic songs such as Ace Of Hearts, Wired To The Moon, I Don't Know What It Is But I Love It, Josephine, Giverny, Girl In A Sports Car, Seabird, Windy Town, I Can hear Your Heart Beat and of course one the the most famous Christmas tunes Driving Home For Christmas, and there are many more. Looking For The Summer also a wonderfully atmospheric simple song suited so well to Chris's voice. Look forward to some more Chris Rea reactions, all those I mentioned there Brandon are killer tracks.

One reason "Fool If You Think It's Over" sounds the way it does, is because it (and the entire Benny Santini album) was produced by Gus Dudgeon. Gus is perhaps best known as the producer of almost all of Elton John's albums of the 1970s. I have read that Chris was not entirely pleased with the production. But as a big Chris Rea fan, I beg to differ. "Whatever Happened To Benny Santini" is a great album. The title song is one of my favorites. For something different, check out his song "Workin' On It"(1989) where he reminds us just how rock is supposed to sound.

Nice hearing Chris Rea again. I know both songs, haven’t heard either in awhile. My favorite album from Chris is The Road to Hell. You’ve played a couple from it already but there’s some others that are bangers! “Looking For a Rainbow” and “Texas” are incredible songs, also “Working On It” which is found on the Deluxe edition of the album. “Working On It” is also found on a couple of his greatest hits albums. Chris has two different songs titled “Texas”, one is on his album “Water Sign” from 1983 then the one I adore is from The Road to Hell. Currently Spotify is playing the 1983 version on the Road to Hell album as well. The version I like is on TH-cam, although the earlier “Texas” is great as well.

Aww ok, hello from the future LOL...
I prefer the cover version of Fool by Elkie Brooks. Whereas it is a strange one for Chris because it doesn't feature the guitar. Looking for the Summer is more what you would expect from Chris and I feel this is the much stronger song of the two. 😊
His remake of this song sounds like crap, don’t waste your time. I only know a couple of his songs - I would consider this part of the “Yacht Rock” genre too.
I'm thinking his 1st version are often going to be the best (I'm looking at you, "On The Beach"..)
Chris wrote this song for his little sister,she got stood up on a date,so he wrote this song for her.
