If you’re getting into fishing, run the spinning set-up! It’s a great introduction and helps with the learning process: Casting, Baiting, Tying Rigs…. You’ll know when it’s time to add conventional set-ups to your arsenal.
Hui aloha braddah. My name is Pono from Hilo. I just wanted to pick ur brain and also ask for advice. I have and own ulua poles and reels. But I have a hard time casting conventional reels. I was wondering if I could do an ulua setup with a spinner reel and like a super heavy rod to handle those big 100+ LB uluas. I found a spinner reel. A Fin nor offshore 10500 or a Penn 10500 just looking for a rod that can handle that much weight and power. I want to do more slide bait action then bait casting or dunking. I really want to get into ulua fishing. Please any help or advice would be helpful and very much appreciated. Mahalo for ur time aloha
Before you go and dump more money into new spinning set-ups. I highly recommend taking some time to practice your casts with your Ulua Poles. You already have the gear for 100lbers, take the time to learn how to use them, before you take a step backwards.

10-12’ Battalion Surf is a great place to start like the 12’ in the video.
