      Just wonderful, I have been researching "how to rotate hips in golf downswing" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Penamillorn Peerless Prevalence - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a smashing one off guide for discovering how to learn an effective golf swing method minus the headache. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my colleague got excellent success with it.

    I’ve reached low single digit handicap in my younger days. ALWAYS fighting a tendency to come over the top though. Tossing the club was the light bulb in my brain I’ve searched for a LONG time. One thing I did to mimic inside my home and was HUGE for me was to pick a spot on the wall. Line up as if I was setting up to a ball. Holding a club head cover with both hands I would swing back and toss the club head cover at my target spot on the wall. 50 times daily. HUGELY valuable for me. So thought I’d share. You’re the the GOAT, Adam!

      it's not the downswing, it's opening up the shoulder, the right shoulder. You can see it at 2.02, the guy in red opens his right shoulder up as he transitions. This is BAD and injures you. The girl in the other frame probably does it too, but less. Stop trying to throw the ball, that's the issue...

    Pro’s can speak about the technicalities of the swing.But unless you actually “feel” it for yourself,it means nothing.Just seeing this vid has shown me for the first time,the weight shift to the left before contact.My golf Pro,who I am having lessons with, has tried to get me to shift the weight to the left before contact.To my shame and my cost I didn’t believe him.Suddenly on my last lesson,I “got it” and what a difference.Now I have also seen it on vid by a pro.I have watched dozens of swing vids,mostly it is almost imperceptible.But here I can actually see Adam doing it.Now I understand it,I can practice it.Thank you Adam.

    I have not looked at any of your videos for a while Adam as my golf was fine for a while, but then I started to slice the ball a bit in which I have not done for a while, then I noticed that in the golf swing one need to keep the right elbow close to the torso to achieve a good follow through and in keeping the ball flight going towards ones intended target! - many thanks!

    Adam, looks like magic. Now I have to tell you how good I find your instructions, there is a reason. I recently came across your vids and watched one, best thing I have done re golf. Further to this, r the last 2 days I have been binging on your instructions, particularly the ones on driving takeaway. I went to the driving range today, you probably know the result. After a few warm up swings with my favourite hybrid I began with the driver. The first dozen shots could not have been better, ok 2 of them not so good as I got a bit too confident. I soon came back to ground. So I look forward to more. Thank you, your the man and very good at what you do. Neil.

    Thank you again Adam - straight to the range with this. I'm also a fan of Fred Shoemaker and it's a real blessing to have his approach integrated with your teaching. The "shiver" makes a whole lot of sense to me. BTW - in many ways thanks to you, I played a championship course here in Sydney yesterday for the first time in heavy weather and shot a 79. Currently off 9 and having only been back for 4 months after a 10 year break, that was a very satisfying result - could easily have been a 75 (4 birdie putts were 4-6" short). Cheers and thank you from Aust - Dave

    Another good video, I use to squat a little; press down into the ground but the instructor at the time said to stop doing it, he felt it wasn't effective for what I wanted to accomplish; increased distance. I think I will go back to squatting a little; no longer with that instructor. I personally found it worked for me, so I will try it again. If I combine what you're saying in this video with your clearing the hips video I think I might have found my solution to more distance & clearing my hips. By the way no longer hitting pull hooks. Your clearing hips video helped a ton, shots going a lot more straight.

Straighter and longer shots. Thanks Adam!

      Thanks for watching the video. People get bored easily, so we make these videos reasonably short.

    Thanks Adam I really enjoy your videos and review them often as on this occasion. The narrowing you describe in this video is surely not as dramatic as you suggest.. You describe the narrowing as illustrated by the different position of the hand position relative to the background objects. Simultaneous with the arm downswing is a forward shift of the hips which accounts for much of the change in the hand position on the downswing relative to the background objects. Surely the more vertical fall of the left arm in the downswing initially accounts for any narrowing simultaneous with the small forward shift of the lower body accounts for the appearance of narrowing before an aggressive lower body turn.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wight shift in the downswing does account for some of it. Also though, if you look at slow motion video from directly behind a great player the trail arm (right for righties) is noticeably more folded, and up against the body in the downswing vs the backswing. Additionally there is an increase in wrist hinge.
      Hope this helps.

    Funny that since i learned to take a decent back swing from your previous video and i know that my feet are already planted on the ground; my only downswing thought is as I am looking down at the ball, I Imagine trying to rapidly swing pass the middle of my abdomen with my straight lead arm and lead elbow; surprisingly the rest of the swing takes care of itself. Trying to focus on any other parts of my body simply messes up my swing. One thing i know for certain with this one downswing thought It is impossible for me to go over the top and guarantees that I will stay on my original shaft plane i had at set up. Thanks for reading. Have you ever heard of such a crazy swing thought that I swear works!

      Thomas,
      I've heard of (and done) a thousand of them. The main thing is that the thought helps you get in a good slot, and gives you confidence. As we all know, the ball reacts to the club and not to what we think.

    The club throw is a very good visual representation of how you want to move your shoulders in the downswing. The right shoulder comes in underneath the left, and not even with it (which can lead to some massive pulls).

    Dear Adam, your videos are just INCREDIBLE. Like previous comments, the way you explain the small but so critical details (lag, hip turn, etc.) and their corresponding excess to avoid are a true value to me (4years of golf, improved from 90 to below 80 in a few rounds :). Thanks so much.
    Now quick question please : Is it possible to strike big ball "too much" past little ball (and top it) if great hip turn combined with a lot of responsiveness in the wrists for lag ? It occurred a couple of times when having very good feels about this too elements. A little less hip slide with still soft wrists and solid strikes back again. Thanks in advance for your answer. Very Best regards.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much Fred. Yes, it's possible to hit the ground too much ahead of the ball, and for the reasons you state. Usually someone with these tendencies (pretty rare) flight the ball low and take deep divots also. You sound like you have the right answers, just paly with it a bit until you dial in the right combo.

    Hi Adam. Been playing for 20 year plus. Have never seen such outstanding stuff. It's like - YES - THAT'S IT! watched your videos and took it to the course the next day - difficult to remember everything but I will watch over and over again. In any case I played at least 6 shots better. One question. In this video you talk about decelerating the hands and letting the clubbed accelerate (like a whip). Problem is, how do you finish the swing? My major problem is not finishing so I tend to hook when I try and finish. Thanks

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Nagib, glad you are finding the videos to be helpful. Regards the question, once the ball is struck the best players re-accelerate the hips/body/arms , taking them to a finish. At full speed it looks close to continuous motion with most of them. I hope this helps a little.

    Adam, it looks like the hands and the belt buckle are both ahead of the ball at impact. Explain how the separation of the upper and lower body minimizes at that point in the swing.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      CK,
      The lower body should lead the downswing, but once it starts to decelerate the upper body starts to catch up a bit, eventually passing the lower body in the follow through.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jim,
      The hip turn doesn't stop, but does significantly slow down (as should the trunk and arms) in order to transfer energy to the club. As the club picks up speed and lashes through it helps re-accelerate the body to the finish.
      Hope this helps.

    This gem: "...the quicker you decelerate them...". Wow.
    To make a short story long...After a 8+ year layoff from golf, completely [was a 6 handicap, due only to a LOT of range time] , at nearly 60 I've got the bug again. A few rounds found the same old swing, only shorter and less consistent.
    What a chance to re-build it - correctly this time around. So, armed with a mat, a net, iPhone slow-mo video, Doppler RADAR thingy, many weeks of rummaging through the Net...no improvement.
    Good setup, good lag UNTIL waist high then it all goes away. Zero shaft lean. Little margin for error. Average clubhead speed [for an amateur my age]. High, weak strikes.
    Your drill with the short, 'whippy'-like swings - with the _deceleration component_ - have produced the only progress I've seen so far, where it counts. I'll stop now. But thanks. I'm subscribing.
    PS: the club-throwing thing (I read that in Shoemakers book years ago) never translated to my swing, but this does.

    Instead of throwing a club, which is very effective, you can get your students to throw a ball or any object for that matter in the same motion to get the same feeling going on. It's all about restructuring those muscle memories!

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gary,
      It's a move you've made in other sports (throwing a ball, skipping a rock etc), you just have to feel it. Do it without a ball, the key is no thrust down with the arms, if they are truly passive it's easy to start the lower body.
      Hope this helps.
