Great review, I do like to locomotive but the smoke is a no. Also the sound is amazing accept for the GEVO 12 Prime Mover, its not even close to the real thing.
I just received my rolling thunder ES44AC CSX 1776 could you possibly tell me if I need to use the funnel to fill something in my engine for the smoke?
Has anyone had an issue with these engines jerking forward and backwards when it moves? I have four of them, and all of them do it. They seem fine when they're first out of the box but once they do some running they start jerking. Any thoughts? I've tried resets, and voltage changes, and changing the BEMF, and nothing fixed it

I just picked the exact same unit up from my hobby store. My cab light doesn’t work, and the smoke unit worked and then promptly stopped, melted the plastic casing
@@shak0009 The radiator grills on the back of the engine (on top, the big part behind the exhaust stack). Take the part off of the engine, and there is a switch under there, with "ON" and "OFF". The radiator grill part might be on there a little tight at first, so don't yank it off too hard, to avoid breaking it. Let me know if the switch was set to "OFF"
@@shak0009 Yes, drop the smoke fluid through the exhaust stack. You can remove the exhaust stack if you use the provided funnel to drop the smoke fluid through.
No worries James. That's what vacations are for, so you can detach from the norm for awhile. Not sure about the smoke yet either. Some folks complained about the prime mover sound but it sounded pretty good through the Rolling Thunder system, just a bit tinny I thought from the onboard speakers. Please, not the "fat finger'! The model looks good but the smoke is not exactly prototypical. Honestly, it looks more like cigarette smoke than the dark particulate exhaust of a diesel engine.
As a retired railroad engineer the sound in nothing like a real diesel locomotive. The only sound that comes close to the ES44ACe or the ET44T4 is MTH and Scale Trains.com. l pay for true life like sounds regardless if the diesel smokes, but it must smoke currently if it is a steam engine. 4 chuffs per revolution.

Nope. Broadway limited doesn't make locomotives without sound. Only manufacturers that have made gevos without sound would be walthers, athearn, mth, intermountain, and tower 55.
the smoke output is adjustable on these engines, and when you purchase the model, it comes with the smoke output on high by default. you can adjust it to make it put out very little smoke, or you can turn it off
Excellent video. The mistakes you made were no biggy. As you said, knocking off the rust from vacation. Something we all go thru in some fashion at one point or another. One thing I have noticed that you do is to move the unit to start the sound. Broadway Limited locomotives are factory set to F9 for sound startup by default. I will admit that I am not a fan of the smoke at all. All my BLI units that smoke are steam and first thing I do is turn the dip switch under the fireman's side of the cab to off. That smell of diesel turns my stomach after a bit. Another thing I noticed about the unit is the ditch lights flash. I believe UP's do not in real life. It's a nice model though. Thank you for another excellent review.

In your movie you can not turn off and on the ditch lights with F7, I can not do it either, but I turn on and off the smoke with F7, is this like yours and others' models too ?? Operators manual says nothing about the smoke so it seem they have re-programmed something without giving any notes?

Smoke doesn’t look good, it it was a slight vertical amount would be more prototypical but everything else is on point!
If you press F9, it will start the sounds and you don't have to bump the throttle forward to activate the sound
The clicking sound at 12:54 came from the last wheel on the rear truck assembly. Might have been something on the wheel,or need ballast adjustment.
Great model! They nailed the horn! But prime mover doesn't sound good at all.
I hope there's more than one horn sound; that one just didn't sound right - more like a car horn. :)

Danny Holt The prime mover is completely wrong for a GEVO, it's not a matter of hearing the quality through a video.

Puts out to much smoke. The prototype is designed to pollute as little as possible while this thing looks like it could smoke out the room real fast

F7 turns on and off the smoke, F24 turns off and on the ditch lights.
