Good review, I just got one of these. I went off on a tangent and got the Navaho Mining, I just liked the color scheme and the separate rear horn with it's different sound is really neat. I guess I will have to order some more coal cars, as I only have one. Have a blessed day.

The BNSF units got a huge color change to their orange too. Looks much better than the previous runs, the old runs were too reddish.
They are nice looking. It would be nice if Scaletrains would do older EMDs like the GP18. Not everyone models the modern cookie cutter era.

Engines much more realistic w/crawl start, than before with "jerky" performance. Stopping would be more realistic with "momentum" engaged- but overall running much improved....

Agreed. The detail is exquisite but the UP paint disappointed me when mine arrived. The grey looks fine, but the yellow is too mustardy? TBH I feel the reflective stripe along the bottom looks closer to armor yellow than what they used for the rest of the shell...
I want the CSX so bad but unfortunately it won't fit with the other HO things I have because they have different couplers

James, do you feel the BNSF is right on color on this run. I have earlier release which has wrong color.
I honestly can't comment on reds and oranges...it's a bad idea because I'm red/green color blind.
My thought is after you weather and grime them does it matter
I'd say it's dead on, as well as the UP yellow. After it's weathered, you probably couldn't tell if the paint was incorrect or not.
Amazing detail, the detail is where HO has O gauge whooped while O gauge has better sounds and smoke!
I think LokSound and Tsunami 2 are far better than MTH and Lionel sounds that O scale is restricted to. And honestly the smoke is a gimmick, it doesn’t look realistic anyway especially on a diesel

Just an idea, I know you mentioned in your 10th anniversary contest video that you were trying to add some variety to your channel. Great review as always.

Uh, no. Tier 4's are specifically for freight service. Could the be used for passenger service, yes. Will they, no. HEP would have to be added, etc.
A cowl body et44ac tier 4. That would be cool looking.

I have the latest GEVO, pretty cool model, amazing puller but I absolutely hated the prime mover sound above anything but idle. It sounds like the speakers are blown as all it does is burble around the track and sounds nothing like an engine. I recorded it and sent it to scale trains and they said thats how its supposed to sound. So like my other scale trains I ripped the lok sound out and installed a board and an newer tsunami2 with the GEVO file and it sounds amazing. I also rewired the sugar cube speakers. Scale Trains runs them in parallel so I wired them in series.
Im now completely satisfied with the model even though I had to spends more money to get there. From now on I will only buy units from scale trains without sound and install my own. Beside they have the loksound encoder locked down for options based on whats prototypical. Lets say I want the ditch ligths to flash on my UP model, with the loksound its not possible because in real life UP doesn't flash their ditch lights. Prototypical is cool but I would rather have options.
Try lowering the volume of the prime mover.
West Texas Railfan That was the first thing i tried. To the point you could hardly hear it. I ripped out the lok sound and replaced it with a tsunami2. Very happy now.
@@MikesProjectsandHobbiesMC man, sucks you had to do that. I like Tsunami 2, but for certain locomotives. ESU is much better, in my opinion.
West Texas Railfan My other scale trains seem fine running ESU decoders. They sound good and perform well. To honest i see no difference in performance from ESU, Soundtraxx or the Paragon3 decoders. Ill just avoid preinstalled decoders now if its an option. That way I can do my own thing. :-)
Bnsf orange is good yellow is still bad
I hate that cream color on the union scaletrain! I had paint issues with all my scaletrain! Athearn has better sound better paint !
That's because scaletrains use acrylic paint. If they used enamel paint it would been much better and athearn is such a shit show company who don't care about their customers.
The UP yellow is real ugly. Even if it's the real color used on the locomotives, it doesn't look right on a tiny model. Fun fact, the color UP uses for calendars and their website is completely different than the actual color for that exact reason.
I thought I was the only one who noticed that. To me, it seems light yellow VS. the cheddar yellow I see in person.

BTW Last year these were going for $249 for DCC/sound MSRP straight from the factory, whats with the $324 MSRP?! Its a good thing I dont model modern day so dont really care but how is that $75 cost jump justified?! Why did they raise their prices by almost 25%? #lame
