I'm just getting into softwash myself and I took a 3 day class in southern California this week and I learned of a product they call pro tool lemony that helps mask the smell of the SH. You definitely need this because your clients or possibly their neighbors might complain plus it gives it a fresh scent.
What class was this? Yes, I definitely think masking the smell would be a good idea. Especially for more residential applications:) I’m in SoCal as well! Do you do pressure washing?
If you finish with oxalic acid you will notice significant difference, its a wood brightener. As far as smell, I do this for a living and don't pay big bucks for surfactant, I use Sun Tropical Breeze and it smells amazing.
Mix a product called Elemonator in with the SH. I use it on house washing. It activates the SH more and causes it to stick more and gives it a lemon smell! It's alittle expensive but u only use like an ounce or two of it to every gallon of SH

When you get a fence cleaning account, go to the immediate neighbors and give a " heads up " on what your doing for concern of Overspray they might have and you might get to do their fence too. Apple wash surfactant would make it smell like Apples. Also agent halt to neutralize any over spray on plants or your neighbors. Interested if any of the over spray between the slats affected the face side of his fence. Also I noticed he appeared to have a tree right up against your fence. Pre treat and post treat vegetation with agent halt and water.

Hes just talking amount of bleach in water mixed. Its impossible to get bleach concentration that high mixing with water. So if hes using a 10% bleach concentration, hes getting roughly 3.5% bleach strength i think. Easy math would be 3.5L of 100% bleach concentration added to 6.5L of water totalling 10L making bleach 35% of the mix, which would make it 35% bleach. Take a zero off of 100% bleach to 10% bleach, and you have 3.5% Bleach concentration. This is close to a standard concentration for house siding cleaning. You can go significantly hotter for concrete or brick, evem straight. Most ppl go 5-8% for roofs. I wouldnt recommend going hotter for wood, as SH breaks down the glue in wood which is why it seems so effective and why furring begins as it gets deeper. For wood, use hydrogen peroxide or sodium percarbonate. (These do not kill plants but kill mold and algae because of how they are structured) Then after brighten it with oxalic acid. This stops the wood from being damaged or furring from radical chemicals.
As long as its diluted it should be fine. He said he mixed his at 35% with water. If itd make you feel safer you can spray all your plants with water before spraying the sh mix. That will give them added protection.
Will this mess up stain? My deck has stain but where I had an outdoor rug I need to clean. It's a new deck but the rug left a dark/dirty mark where the rug was.

Check out a channel called Dan's vlog,he has many videos on using sodium hypochlorite to clean decks,siding,and he also washes concrete and does lawn care. Lots of dos and donts as well as helpful tips. Hope that helps ya.
J BJ's pressure washing reply to the comment you don't need to put soap on a fence the sh is it going to be on there long enough to affect the fence I use 12.5 straight when I do my fences I do them all the time I never have a problem with them.

Is SH safer on grass.? Reason being is when its sprayed its its obviously going to touch the grass.

Yes, SH is chlorine (bleach), it will remove stain but it would be better to remove the old stain and restain to preserve the fence.

Yikes! SH is way too hot for raw wood... Try oxyclean or oxygen bleach instead. Then follow up with oxalic acid to neutralize, brighten, and restore
