What AoS Armies would you love to paint? Where do they sit in your tiers?! Let us know in the comments!
I gave my full teir-list. I was surprised at where I put a lot of the armies I don't own. Specifically Soulblight, Flesh Eater Courts, and Sylvaneth. I may not own a Seraphon army, but I know why I rated them as high as I did. Because that army is absolutely beautiful now that they have their range refresh. I kinda wanted to rate Idoneth higher, but they need more models to justify it. I don't want to spend half of my life painting only the eel cavalry and shark chariots, no matter how cool they are.
Having painted something in nearly every faction I'll give my top 3 and bottom 3.
Top 3: Sylvaneth, Seraphon, Lumineth. Ease of painting and they look beautiful.
Bottom 3: Kruel Boyz, Cities of Sigmar, Fyreslayers.
If I'm honest, bottom 3 is mainly because of details, or lack of a WOW model for Slayers.
Paint some fec! lol give me the inspiration.
And directly with the first one i tought: this is why poorhammer had the chaos trim zone😂

If I saw this a few years ago, Id agree wholeheartedly. But after painting some kf my Tzeentch army, I have to say thag Disciples of Tzeentch don't have nearly as much trim as Thousand Sons in 40K do, or as much trim as other armies in AoS.
Sure, Kairic Acolytes have alot of trim, but it's contained mostly to shields, shoulder pauldrons and shin guards. The various Tzaangor kits have some pretty fine trim, but it's still not as bad as 40K's Rubrics or Scarabs, because those armored bits don't cover their whole bodies like Thousand Sons, or the armor of your average Chaos Marine.
I honestly think there's armies with worse trim in AoS than Disciples of Tzeentch. Specifically Slaanesh, Khorne and Lumineth. Even Slaves to Darkness I'd argue has worse trim simply due to how many more units there are with trim compared to Disciples of Tzeentch.

Loving painting my Stormcast but would also love to paint either Soulblight Gravelords or Sylvaneth love their models and the move away from shiny armour and Dragons
Both are some great options! We each paint both of those armies so perhaps we're biased 🙃
KO are genuinely *painful* to paint - Skaven tho, despite being ancient, are still lovely to paint. Screaming Bell etc. #StopRatHate

Was surprised about the gitz; Trugg, gobbapalooza, the spiders, the other shamans, so many great models. And the squigs at least are kinda fun by giving you variety, like the snufflers, mangler, bat squigs, etc. plus you can go with any color you feel like and it just works. My poor boys deserved B tier at least if not one day 😂

I find it funny that "I dont wanna have to paint ghoulish flesh" came after FEC were placed in Super Duper Yes Me Please 😅 That being said its interesting how you guys have ended up with horde heavy armies near the top and some of the more elite nearer the bottom.

Seen true the eyes of a non-painter gamer:
S-tier: easy peasy
Flesheater Courts (my main army, just refreshed, awesome, god-tier, I'll fight you over this, got 8k models of them, buying more)
Sylvaneth (even the older models are still cool, easy with airbrush + drybrush)
Ossiarch bonereapers (airbrushing them into pink-marble, warlock purple lightning patern, ignoring the detail)
Seraphon: It has Lizards, Dino's, Floating toads, Flying Reptiles and Skinks...Maya Temples! If anyone says 'no' to this, their inner 5 year old will wet their beds... you had it comming!
A-tier: doable in a week, if I'm motivated
Krullboyz, Nighthaunt (Spooky, easy and room for complex)
a pure Gobo spider rider army, if it does not come with a spider, it will not be part of this army
a pure Troll only army
B -tier: (only because I got an airbrush):
Tzeentch Daemons, Sons of Behemath, Idoneth Deepkin, Magotkin, Soulblight Gravelords, Daughters of Kaine, Headonates of Slanesh.
C-tier: I'll put the mandatory 4 colors on:
Karadron Overlords, orks, gloomspite gitz, ogres, fireslayers, Stormcast (I'd rather waste that time painting my Iron Hands SM wh30k).
D-tier: I'd rather play with them gray or undercoated, I'd rather paint other things:
Cities of sigmar (too much detail), Slaves to Darkness (same), Lumineth Realmlords(

Another great video! Most of your takes were pretty fair. Though I think you neglected some of the Slaanesh Mortals like Blissbard Archers and Myrmidesh Painbringers in favor of just talking about the Daemons. Because I've considered getting a Slaanesh army a few times just for their gorgeous Mortal models. Also, Bonereapers don't have to be "bone" colored. You can do black or grey bone with them. GW even shows it off in their battletome. But here's my Teir-List. There's a surprising number of armies I've rated highly that I *don't* own:
Super Duper Yes Me Please: Stormcast Eternals, Nighthaunt, Seraphon
One Day: Soulblight Gravelords, Sylvaneth, Ossiarch Bonereapers, Flesh Eater Courts, Gloomspite Gitz
B Teir: Daughters of Khaine, Maggotkin of Nurgle, Cities of Sigmar, Orruk Warclans, Fyreslayers, Slaves to Darkness
If I Had To: Lumineth Realm-Lords, Kharadron Overlords, Ogor Mawtribes, Idoneth Deepkin, Disciples of Tzeentch, Hedonites of Slaanesh(I love the models but they look like Hell to paint)
Nope: Blades of Khorne, Beasts of Chaos(unless a Range refresh happens), Skaven(need a refresh), Sons of Behemat
I’m still baffled that people still to this day- overlook the new Slaanesh range especially when it’s some of the best sculpts in aos.
Slaanesh have got some beauties that's for sure!
This looks like a really solid list! Absolutely fair on both accounts re Slaanesh and Bonereapers, I think it still stands with OB for us because it's still very coherent through the entire army, lots of the same thing. Same goes for Tomb Kings and even Necrons tbf, that being said the range within Necrons in 40k feels a little more diverse than OB.
@the_kieran_show That's an entirely valid rebuttal.I haven't painted my own Bonereapers yet, so maybe painting the same bone color(whatever it may be) on my 60 Mortek Guard will eventually get to me. I just just thought it was worth pointing out that there's more than one way to do "Bone." Since I also remembered that it was mentioned in your top 5 AoS armies video as well.
I’m currently painting up an OBR army ready for 4th. I already have maggotkin and seraphon. I’m just waiting for some decent spraying weather.
I’ve got a video idea for you both. A short series over weeks/ months where you paint up new armies. You can call it “A Tale of Two Kierans“.

Ive painted 3 unclean ones, they are very easy to paint but so much fun!!!

Funny, Ossiarch Bonereapers is my next AoS army. I'm really looking forward to painting the bone and armor with drybrushing and stippling.

Good to see that my taste in AoS armies is good(orruks and seraphon). This was really interesting but I don't know whether I would change up any of the rankings apart from maybe bumping up the warclans because I like all 3 prongs of the army(yes, even the bonesplitterz)
Its really interesting comparing our current tier with what we'd actually have a crack at painting!
Gloomspite have so many different types of models, they should be higher! :)

Nighthaunt genuinely has one of the coolest and most aesthetically pleasing model ranges among the entire GW franchise, stupidly easy to paint, and every single model in the army has a dynamic pose (in contrast to other armies with very static "mook standing still with a pointy stick" models). Not to mention, the painting range for them is nearly limitless: you can do dark-robed wraiths, bedsheet-white spooks, blood splattered specters, or even synthwave neon! For a hobbyist, NH are one of the best armies you could ever invest in!
The problem Nighthaunt has always had is that their rules just SUCK. Every unnamed model does exactly one thing and nothing else, being entirely dependent on the rest of the army to work together like clockwork... however, if one of those "gears" is dealt with, the rest of the army quickly falls apart. And their mechanics, while flavorful, hinder Nighthaunt as much as it helps them, resulting in a very mid army that has consistently ranked at the bottom of tournament results more often than not.

I know it would take way more editing so i get it but as someone who doesnt collect sigmar i cant picture a lot of the models you guys mentioned. Woulda loved a showcase with em, but it was still nice to listen to the back and forth while i built some 40k fish men

Gitz number one mad Alice and wonderland goblins who r dark especially if you read gloomspite. They r so cool all hyped up on mushrooms.
They do have some amazing miniatures!
Agree on Bloodthirster sculpt; really odd pose.
Sad about the Gitz. Troggoths look loads of fun to paint, as are Gobbapalooza. Also squigs can be all colours of the rainbow. Squiggy goblin mushroom friendship is magic guys 🌈
We're so split on Gitz 😂 I like Trugg if that's any consolation.
I’m surprised that you don’t rate the slaves to darkness range that high, it’s one of the best ranges I think, especially with darkoath. Also I love Idoneth : (

So far the Sylvaneth has kept me pretty busy. They just keep getting new box sets and/or miniatures for the past 2 years. There a few more armies I would eventually like to start on. Before I went all in on Sylvaneth, I originally was back and forth on Sylvaneth, Seraphon, and Idoneth. Both Seraphon and Idoneth suffered from a lot of older sculpts where Sylvaneth had gotten a new range release and that is mostly what affected my decision. Luckily I dodged a bullet on Seraphon as their new range refresh is phenomenal. Idoneth I think will get a range refresh come next ediiton so Im not concerned with them at all. Currently the new Serpahon range has me interested and surprisingly Slaves to Darkness. Their recent army box kinda got me hooked and I just kept looking at their model range and grew to love it more than 40k's chaos aesthetic. I think for both armies Ill start with Warcry and Underworlds just to dip a toes in and see how I like painting them up
It would be interesting to see what a refresh to Idoneth looks like, but there are other armies in AoS that need it more to be honest. That new Seraphon range had EVERYONE interested!
@@the_kieran_show yeah I definitely. Well will the supposed skaven refresh thats one army that desperately needed it. Theres a small handful left that need a refresh so I like my chances with Idoneth. Seraphon was the aos glow up it needed along with the recent FEC. Between those and cities Im definitely looking forward to seeing how these older armies get handled
I would never start AoS, but I think in 1-2 years I might end up with Hedonites and Slaves of Darkness as proxies for Chaos Warriors in The Old World for some kitbashed Tzeentchian and Slaaneshy warband. Hedonites have some very '300' Persians that just seem depraved fun and the slaves chaos warriors just hit the nerve of what I wanted Chaos to look like back in the 90s.

Quite frankly I think that archaeon is the derpiest model in the slaves to darkness range. But I think the armour is a a little bit too bulky on the other models but they are fairly fun models to paint and convert. With the massive variety of warcry models I think it's pretty hard to not find something you want to paint.
In general I don't think I have many armies rated the same as you guys.
In fact I think that most of my first choices fit in your if I had to tier.
That’s a hot take on Archaeon! It’s the great thing about this hobby that they all go into different categories for everyone 😀
@@the_kieran_show I really like Bryan Ansell, Toumas Piranen's vision for chaos and particularly the Artwork of Ian Miller. Archaeon comes across in both lore and the model as much more of a Saturday Morning cartoon villain. It also doesn't help that I don't particularly like named character models, I much prefer if each army I play has their own special characters rather than seeing the same ones over and over.
Would be fun to force the other Kieran to paint something that they are Nope about (like Cities) to see if they change their mind?

Found stormcast boring to paint, so they'd be If I had to , for me. My kharadron are only if I had to now, as I've painted so much of them (near enough 6k ish) so I'd only paint more if there is new models in the range.

@the_kieran_show it has taken 3 editions but they've been fun to play so thar kind of balances it out...kind of .
Can confirm Lumineth are awful to paint, at least as a new painter. I bought mine back in 2022 and have only gotten six or so done before I recently started over with a new color scheme. So now I only have one done. Yaaaaaay. Here's hoping 4.0 makes them more elite, or I might just throw up my hands and pay someone else to do it.
Anyway, thanks for making AoS content. There's not a lot of it out there and several channels who have tried have given up due to low views, so it's nice to see you guys tackling it.

I almost pulled the trigger on an S2D army purely based on the strength of the daemon prince (not the rules though, he's a tad terrible)

The big advantage of Soulblight Gravelords is that it is the most diverse Death army, visually. Instead of being all ghouls, all skeletons or all ghosts, you can paint a few skeletons, some zombies, a couple vampires... Good way not to get bored of a single style of painting.
It's why I collect them! I love SG because they have a bit of everything and it's more of a flavour of the week when it comes to painting and playing, each dynasty is so different.
I think the Flesh Eater Courts are kinda cool, but at the same time, the range feels a little too much on the ghoulish side to me. That and there's not a whole lot of variation to it. I prefer Soulblight cause it does have that variation. You've got skeletons, zombies, bats, wolves, vampires, all the things! I'm all about the classic Vampire Counts vibe!
Yeah if you weren’t into painting ghoul flesh it would be a bad time 😂
If I could choose an army to be given a full force of any faction to paint for free, I’d probably choose Sylvaneth.

Ignore me putting OBR in bottom tier because there's not enough flesh. Also, fur bad."

Im surprised you put sylvaneth on top tier, it feel like they can get annoying to paint with the branches in the way of everything
They aren’t too bad actually, washes and contrast make short work of the branches and leaves!
How dare you rate OBR, Nagash's favorite children, so low? Oh, sure, it's a lot of bone, but you can get so much variation in bone - bleached white, aged yellow, moldy green, petrified blue-brown, charcoaled grey-black, to say nothing of bones enchanted by necromantic magic to glow ghostly green or amethystine purple, or plated in metalic copper or silver or gold. "Oh it's too much bone, so boring!" You're boring. You're boring.
