@the_kieran_show absurdly so
I got in on second edition. You could buy the box at Argos when Argos was in its prime and amazing. I was maybe 12 or 13 and over painted those minis to hell. But that was amazing to play
Prime time Argos was the best!
In all honesty, I find you don’t really need to be running more than 2 ridgerunners (with mortars) in any list. I’ve had people say to me that they’re your only reliable anti-tank in the whole army, but a 5 man unit of acolyte hybrids with autopistols+3 mining weapons+Cult Icon+acolyte iconward+Locus is easily the best anti-vehicle stack in the army while also being really tough to deal with in general. You get a 5+ FNP, fights first, anti-vehicle 4+ with six attacks at 3 dmg a pop, while also returning D3 models every command phase or 3 models within an objective marker. They’re also cult ambush so you can just bring them back, makes them a nightmare for any light-medium vehicle and even pretty scary for heavy vehicles. Yes it is kinda pricy at 160pts/unit, but the locus is also completely optional if you want to work around not having fights first, and 30pts extra for the utility you get from it is a great trade off imo
🫡
Awesome schemes. Is that slate on the bases?
its bark and/or cork!
Old World > AoS > 40k at least rules wise, AoS probably has the best models but the worst lore and some ppl never got warm with the fantasy aspect, they want their tanks and plasma guns 😂
Tanks and plasma go brrrrr
Laughs in printer. And rages in price differences from the UK
Thank goodness for printer
I just bought into AOS because after moving to a new area, I didn't have anyone to play star wars legion with and wanted a game that was more popular, but had rules that were closer to legion's single activation turns. Only to find out that AOS has the same low player count issues. I played Warhammer 7th edition back in the day and have terrible memories of picking my models off of the board turn 1 after 30-40 minutes of watching my opponent move all his dudes and shoot all my guys dead. Plus I really enjoy the fantasy setting models. (Personally, I'd love to see more AOS content from you both)
Kill Team and Warcry both benefit from the single activation mechanic, it's a shame really because I think the larger games would really benefit. It's why reaction moves are so important in AoS and Heresy I think, can really mould a game. We'd love to do more AoS content, the algorithm absolutely batters us when we try something new! This year I think we'll be able to crank out alot more hobby content, painting videos etc. I think that'll fit perfectly in the AoS remit.
I hate that I agree with 95% of what you've said. I came here to be angry and rage and all I got was reasonable discourse. Downvote.
😂😂 we're losing our edge clearly.
@@the_kieran_show everything's about to change!
OLD WORLD :)
Had sooooo many comments like this!
Brandon Sanderson is far from alone in releasing series that are 10 books or more, this is what I could see on one of my bookshelves and if I put in the effort and lift my ass I could probably double this: The Wheel of Time - Robert Jordan Discworld - Terry Pratchett Cradle - Will Wight The Riftwar Cycle - Raymond E. Feist The First Law - Joe Abercrombie Malazan - Steven Erikson The Dresden Files - Jim Butcher The Black Company - Glen Cook
Sorry that wasn't really the point I was making! It was more than in those series they have substance, a thought through plot with a clear vision.
Do you have an eye tutorial

I too am a Kieran when do I get a place at the table
You're always welcome at our table fellow Kieran
The Old World > AoS x 40,000
Nothing wrong with that!
Got back into Warhammer 6 months ago and currently sitting on 86 Orks and 50 odd Space Marines unpainted lol
When it rains it pours 😭
Your way too hard on yourself. Take a breathe and have fun. Looks f%%king amazing
Isn't it good! He is a savage when it comes to self assessment
I play both, 40k gets boring after 90% of the game is Space Marines (including Chaos Space Marines), there is nothing interesting there. That's why I only play Xenos, the gameplay is different and the minis are unique. The Setting being better? Again, everything is just a "power of frinedship" for the imperium, even when planets are getting destroyed they end up winning, that's some BS only middle schoolers find interesting.
Really had me at 'the power of friendship' 😂😂
I am much more into Sci-Fi than fantasy, however, I felt that when choosing which game to play I liked the look of AoS more. Particularly the models looked more fun to paint. So I read 40K and paint/play/collect AoS.
Sounds like the dream if you ask me!
Not being funny, as a newbie to warhammer (was too poor as a kid) I'm all about AOS. 40k setting really doesn't do it for me.
Nothing wrong with that at all! You enjoy your hobby how you like it.
This is a personal opinion but i think aos has more freedom, mainly with the models they sre all different and have different play styles while 40k they are all mostly space marines with guns
I think we'd agree!
Warhammer Fantasy. Not Old Wold, not AoS.
Nothing wrong with that!
I love both games, but I think the depth of the setting with 40k makes it easier to make YOUR guys, which is something I personally put above all else. AoS isnt bad at it necessarily but it just feels much easier and more interesting to do in 40k.
I think that's fair enough! I suppose it's easier to be creative when you have a base to branch from.
I started the hobby on a whim with 10th edition 40k and trying to get a 1000 pt army at first was infuriating. I bought Leviathan cause it looked cool and I wanted to have a sort of single box game to play with friends. Multiple points drops for both the SM and Tyranid sides of the box only make me feel like I needed to buy another kit every time a points update happened. Bought Skaventide due to Spearhead hype and I've been loving the format and AoS ever since.
Sounds like you did the perfect switch up!
40K is way too Imperium-focused, with way too much emphasis on Space Marines. Even in this video non-Imperium factions are only mentioned in passing, with “40K” and “Imperium” being practically interchangeable. If 40K loses its “gothic church” aesthetic, it will be because GW has finally remembered that they have a whole galaxy of factions and wants to do them justice. I don’t hate it or anything. It’s just that having it shoved down my throat triggers my gag reflex. WHERE’S MY NEW DRUKHARI STUFF, GW?!?! I NEED MORE PLASTIC TO PRICK MY FINGERS ON!
I get Glasses Kieran well on that I LOVE Fantasy over sci-fi 99% of the time Yet i can fully understand him slapping 40k over everything So for him its like Sci-fi (40k) Fantasy Fantasy Fantasy Fantasy Fantasy Fantasy Sci-fi I get that feeling For me it was KotOR KotOR over everything But everything directly under it is fantasy stuff The next sci fi thing is way down (before 40k showed up in my life last year)
Sounds about right!
I’m surprised to see Descent of Angels at the top of your list since it’s one of the books that I’ve seen the most hate for. But after hearing what you guys said about it and how it’s not just bolter porn, I’m really keen to give it a go
We've only ever heard good things about DOA!
Fundamentally, more people prefer their fantasy to have tech-armor, laser swords and psychicer instead of maille, magic swords, and wizards. For this reason alone 40k will always have the edge.
That's an interesting take! Why have a wizard in a robe with a sword, when he can be in space?
32:23 perhaps “only the faithful” … but this only works in the 40K setting for Guard/Loyal marines… what do Tau chant “I’m a fish”
WELL THEY KINDA ARE
I'm both, but I've always found it harder to convince players to play Aos more than 40k. I come from being a fantasy fan back before it blew up, so 40k was always secondary to me. However, I do play 40k more because it's easier to get games. I'd love to play more Aos because the minis the game mechanics & cost are just better than 40k, but the lore is always the problem for most. 30+yrs gives you a nice head start, lol. I am trying to be constructive, though & trying to find more Aos players in my area, so I've got both my favourite settings to play more equally. Got more Aos forces FEC, lumineth, stormcast, kruelboyz, cities of sigmar & my largest force sylveneth. 40k necrons, marines & soon to be EC, so I definitely like more Aos armies than 40k ones. Interesting discussion, great content as ever guys, love you're channel.
Thanks so much for the support mate! Really interesting point, ever thought about jumping back into Fantasy?
I collect and play both. The gameplay and ruleset of 40k is better than AoS. The models and lore progression of AoS is better than 40k
Interesting that you like the ruleset more in 40k, what are your favourite aspects if you were to draw comparisons?
Love the lore of 40k but prefer playing AOS
Same here!
AoS for me, the lore feels like it matters for the setting while still having freedom for disparate weirdness. The models are excellent, the rules are super easy to grasp, money wise the barrier for entry is much lower than 40k if you are smart with purchases and the like. The elephant in the room that goes against 40k for me though is I left the hobby around the time T'au came out I believe and came back during lockdown because more time, but the same issue for me existed, certain very vocal elements of the community within 40k fail to realize the setting is satirical and instead treat it as something to strive to be like. There are parts of 40k I like here and there, I had around 4k of eldar back in the day, but for me AoS being newer is a positive, massive room for stories to be told and expanded upon, you folks mentioned Blacktalon, thats an example of it, along with the Carrion/Summer King appearing and just giving Flesh Eater Courts a breath of fetid-fresh air. There've been misses though, looking at you Morathi, but there've been more hits than misses. Compared to 40k, new brilliant models like Vashtor get showed off and get a massive 'oooh pretty' reaction with good lore and model, then immediately get forgotten or stomped like a loser.
Some great points here!
Aos is better to me, i prefer fantasty and mainly paint. Aos models are better and its not even close. I dont care that much about lore, i just use it to base my own head canon on and make my own stories. The main thing that puts me off 40k is space marines, they look so boring and i dont like that they dominate the releases with their huge extremely bloated and continuously growing range whilst others have limited ranges with 30 year old sculpts. Isnt the next year of 40k releases just different colour marines and some with spikey bits, how dull. Most games i have seen being played walking past the local store are one colour of marine v a different colour of marine, at least you get variety with aos.
That's so interesting about the Space Marine point and I agree with you whole heartedly (Big K). How do you think Stormcast differ if you were to draw comparisons?
@the_kieran_show i have stormcast because they are in all the starter sets lol. Plus points for stormcast are they have both male and female models, all stormhosts are in one book, not different books for different colours. It feels more like you can do your own colour scheme with less restrictions, they dont have to be a successor chapter. Stormcast also have fantastical creatures which appeal to me, the gryphounds, griffin cav, big griffins that just got released and best of all dragons. Space marines have really boring looking vehicles, though tbf I only find the ork vehicles interesting visually in 40k. Your not getting a new stormcast model for every non stormcast release, unlike 40k where you get a new captin/lieutenant model every few months because spacemarines must have constant releases. Theres got to be more space marine captain options by now then total options in some of the other armies books. Im sure gw really want you to buy multiple stormcast armies of the exact same models and just paint them different colours, releasing books for each main stormhost, thats probably what they were hoping for when they designed them, but thankfully its not worked out for them that way. which i think is a good thing for aos as a whole. I was actually happy they cut back the stormcast range abit, but then they filled it back up again. Imo they should cut the bloat, let a different faction be the 'good guys' in the next editions starter, and do some large scale releases for the armies with fewer options. I get the appeal of space marines, most warhammer collectors and players are males from teen boys to about 40, they are a male power fantasty and everyone says the lore is great, but im not their target audience and thats ok, 40k would just be more appealling to me with a little less focus on marines and more attention for the various xenos.@@the_kieran_show
I love 40k lore and keep up with it regularly, it’s the main reason I got into the hobby. With that said I have 3 squads of Deathwatch Space Marines and a Watch Master Vs 2k of Stormcast,1500 of Nighthaunt and around 1300 of Skaven and some random Grand Alliance Death models around. Models wise AoS is UNBEATABLE and the rules from 3rd onwards have been sick aswell.
3 out of 4 for you too then!
I went on the website you recommended for cheaper miniatures and the prices are unbelievably good. As a person living in the U.S, is this website a good one to go with and also how trustable are they with their product and its quality?
We use them all the time (we have an affiliate link in the description) just double check they actually ship to US though!
40k has to "make sense in reality" as they operate in the far future of us.... AOS doesnt have this limitation, their models can be truly wild and it will still fit into AOS reality...
You tell me what part of a Squighog boy makes sense in reality 😂
Fantasy
I highly recommend anything by Mike Brooks for 40k. The Lion: Son of the Forest, and his Ork books are hands down the best 40k books I've come across.
They're some good ones for sure!
10:02 thank you! Cost of entry is a game changer. Love them both but for multiple armies per year it’s AoS for the win, even if 40K lore is so much better.
Anything to save the pennies!
Also ..Coteaz did nothing wrong. He's fine.
Naaaah no way!
40k is da best. AoS is great but ultimately with me it is about how much you can interact with 40k. So many more people play, paint, and build 40k. My friends all own multiple 40k armies and maybe one AoS Spearhead each.
Totally understandable! It's all about if you can get games too 😄
Glad one of you is being objective. 😂 Pretty unfair to grade on the lore for a setting thats been going on since the 80s and has been consistently getting lore, not all of which has been good mind you, versus a setting thats been out for 10 years and had to win back fantasy players on the merits of its lore and its fun gameplay. Just saying give AOS more time and it will be beating 40k in all categories and not just 3 out of 4
What's funny is the lore isn't even that well adapted. It's based on a crutch of a story that narratively was 10,000 years before it 😭
Kieran is right. Ive been trying to convince my bf to start a skaven army for the better part of a year so that i can justify getting some of those beautiful sculpts, (he told me if this comment is a hit he'll buy me a sylvaneth army) and AoS is so much simpler, but alas even though im a fantasy person and not into sci fi, i do love the tonnes of lore of 40k, if they could stop promoting horde armies and over complicating the rules i would like it more. But currently they are tied, with AoS models being superior.
Liked so you get your Sylvaneth army
+1 like for the Skaven & Sylvaneth shopping list!
