Kieran says he would like to paint Blood Angels but when he plans his list he's going to end up mostly picking death company and realize he's painting all black again.
If Harlequins get rules again that might be the first time I would be happy to commission someone to paint them for me. A tier list of kitbashing could be kind of nifty, or just a video on it in general. I think vanilla GSC have a few fun models but as a whole are so-so painting-wise, but from a lore perspective the kitbash potential is just so good.
I haven't painted a 40K figures in a very long time. But since watching you guys I have bought the Combat Patrols for Sisters of Battle, Genestealer Cults, Space Wolves, Black Templars and I have an old Ork Patrol and Eldar Combat Patrol. I have just bought all the Exarch squads as well. But now watching this, I don't think you, personally, would recommend painting any of them!!!! (although Eldar are one day). 😂😂
The sisters ain't too bad to paint 😉I just used my own scheme including the tanks, da orks are fun ( again my own scheme) and forgiving, gene stealers I'd rather have the original hybrid guys but I have done a few 😱
interesting. I honestly think that Tyranids don't have a single bad model in their line up. They are also such a great "palette clenser" because they are so different to almost everything else. Painting a WHOLE army at once....yeah you'll end up disliking it but I feel like that goes for every army. But painting A model or a few is great fun.

I'm looking forward to them, but I don't need a real army / Space Wolves - again embracing the Firstborn suck for a Boarding Action party, but paint scheme will be based on HH because that probably one of my all time favorites with the darker grey and burgundy red. up to 500: Astra Militarum - mostly to have something for scenarios/narrative as victims / Cultists and Traitor Guard - the same as the loyal boys / Agents of the Imperium - depending on the release this summer (sorry Keiran, time for the toga, Emperor's Children will come later :P). Everything else doesn't really interest me, definitely not the Xeno races. If White Scars would be supported I would probably eyeing them for 500 points.

I’m about to start painting a chaos demons army. I have painted Rotigus, 20 plague bearers and 6 nurglings. All else is built and about to based black. Can’t wait to paint the Greater Demons; Skarbrand (big coked up/roided up 90’s wrestler), Kairos (giant Egyptian bird librarian), Shalaxi (sexiest nightmare made real with giant spear and shield) and of course the OG bad boy- Be’Lakor. IVE SOLD MY SOUL TO CHAOS. And it’s working out great.
I just started my LoV army last night. I have a modest pile of shame for them. The army box, combat patrol, both commemorative models, and a box of beserks. So not too bad in terms of model count. Iv only built and painted a single hearthkyn warrior and I enjoyed. Between my Necrons and Sylvaneth who are very similar in aesthetic with metal and wood being the predominat material, it was nice to get a mix of material between the armor/undersuit and the skin/hair. Also I get to experience a smaller range to start off with. Hopefully, LoV wont be getting their codex until next year considering they are the newest faction. That will give me a solid year to get my current collection finished before the second wave hits and then I can focus on the remainder of the units left in the first wave of models
I started with Space Wolves and Nids many years ago...new armies I picked up are Leagues of Votann and Thousand Sons...I will regret the last one as I paint it for sure. But getting some new orks to go with my old models will be a reward after the trim trauma.
Totally agree with the list! The amount of effort needed on Black Templars was what made me quit the army and create a Blood Angels successor, which I am having so much fun with! Although a lot of their models are outdated they have a lot of potential especially when combined with other Chapter aesthetics. If the Grey Knights got a range refresh I would definitely start a GK army for sure! Personally I avoid horde armies and anything on less than a 32mm base as I just don’t have the time, patience and more importantly skill to do them well 🤣
Ive painted Tyranids and im starting on my death guard now and so far im really enjoying it, then again im cheating by using an airbrush to get all the nooks and crannies without giving myself carpal tunnel
I'd love to do a BA army, but their old models are horrendous. I have a hefty Space Marine collection, and I keep putting the painting off for 'reasons', but I'm secretly waiting for the BA range refresh...lol
I love painting my Drukhari, mostly because I get to be creative with the horror side of things; you can make them as gory and horrible as you like, and it looks like it deserves to be there. Using Zombies as hanging mutilated corpses from the front of your Raiders, or bodies on spikes, Vlad the Impaler style from them, or having chained and tortured slaves lining the decks, is a good look for the army. Costs a little extra to buy the zombies and extra body parts you need, but it's worth it, especially if you're a horror fan like me.
I'd paint Tau and CSM, since I've got boxes and boxes of them 😅. If it were a new army, probably Necrons or Deathguard. They'd look great with streaking grime. ❤
Interesting on how your experience in painting the models changes your view. I’ve always wanted to do pirate Eldar. I have a neat idea in my head for Orange/Purple/Green that I think would be cool. Change primary color for Crawftworld vs Coursiar/harlequin vs Dark Eldar. Waiting for next year to see the new models. Thanks for fun video. Edit: I need to find the toga video now…
SUPER EASY TO FUN! So glad it was said a second time, as that's not what I heard the first time :P *snerks* Love how you call them "Custards" instead of their actual name! I agree about Drukhari... They're also "If I had to" in my eyes - I still have painful recollections of assembling and painting them from the 3rd edition boxed set, when it was NEW!!! Surprised Catachans and their aaaaancient models didn't pull Imperial Guard down into "If I Had To"... Tyranids for me are very much so "Super Duper YESSS!" for me - literally the reason I bought Leviathan for! They're a ton of fun to paint with oils.... So many lovely models to paint! I have to agree with left Kieran. Space Marines the Vanilla are so very much the quintessential definition of b-tier. I agree with right Kieran regarding the Kroot. Annoying spikey chickens.
I have been thinking about what could make Guard cooler and rank higher on your list. There will soon be the option to use 30k Solar Auxilia models as Guard infantry. How do you like those guys? Or would you rather wait for the hopeful future release of Krieg infantry?
It is funny how much Imperial Guard would improve if they added just 4-5 Krieg boxes as alternatives to the basic Cadian infantry and weapon teams boxes. Just 4-5 boxes... This (and the AoS) tier list were a bit weird, because you ranked on personal preference, often disagreed, yet still had to find one solid placement per army. The disagreements surely led to some entertaining banter, but I wonder if it had made more sense for each of you to make their own tier list. That way, there would have been less mid-tier compromises. And you could have still argued about how wrong each other's placements were. :P
We did contemplate doing one each, but these two videos have been mammoth edits with all these snazzy stuff and if we did one each we didn’t want the video to be just too long 😅
As an AoS guy, Grey Knights are the only faction that look halfway decent to me. The only problem is they're all short kings. When they get a refresh, I'll almost certainly pick up a strike squad to make a kill team and eventually a Terminator squad to paint up just for funsies. EDIT- the Dark Angels have been growing on me as well, but I can't see myself buying them.
24:51 Tyranids are so frustrating. The models are beautiful. Once they've been painted even moderately well, it's so cool to walk past a shelf they're being displayed on. They are an absolute nightmare to paint, though. Of the armies I've started, Tyranids have been the only one I didn't enjoy painting. I don't really like doing Daemon infantry either, but their characters are tons of fun, and my wife's Be'lakor is definitely the best I've ever painted a model (he's also my most recently painted model, and it's always a nice feeling when you feel like you've just one upped yourself).
26:26 Orks are one of the funnest factions to paint if you get into an Ork mindset, throw on some Gwar, and paint away like you're a dumb grot or a stoopid hoomie that's gonna get his teef kicked in if da boss ain't got enough checker boards and hazard stripes on 'is choppa. The fact that you can freehand everything without needing to be good or precise, and "Dis piece is gonna be blue, 'cause I likes blue," and you're not locking yourself into a single paint scheme is brilliant. If you're under time constraints they would be terrible, though.
37:08 To be fair, my Thousand Sons army isn't blue and gold, and that might change things, but I absolutely loved painting them. I also didn't put Magnus's chest armor on, and he was in my top 5 favorite models I've ever painted. My CSM warband has black and blue armor with mostly silver trim and blue or white cloth. I initially planned on running a few Rubric Marines with them and using Ahriman as a Sorcerer, so I started painting my Thousand Sons the same way, and now have about 4000 points of them because they were so fun.
@@the_guitarcadeI know a guy who has a Thousand Sons kill team that he just dry brushed some tan, hit them with a flesh wash, and painted some glowing parts neon blue. They look amazing for like no effort.
@@TheLordofMetroids I've seen Necrons painted like that and was amazed at how good they looked. I bet all the trim makes the effect even better on TSons.
great to see that none of my choices reach above B-tier, then again my plans are mildly insane for at least orks if not all my armies(hello Votann with 4 sepperate colour schemes because my friend made a Deep Rock Galactic joke and I went: "Bet")
I agree with what you say with how AOS models are better. They certainly are, so much more creativity and when painting an army you don't feel like your painting the same model over and over again, even if it's a different kit. I've not bought anything 40k in years now because the ranges are too bland and samey. So for me every army would be in the nope catagory
Regular SM are a nope. If i'm going to paint SM it'll be for my Dark Angels or Space Wolves. I really, really hope the summer release will EC. Historically, each of the other 3 were released at the end of the cycle, 3rd year. Hopefully they break the trend!
I just can´t get over the fact that you remind me soooooo much of the lead singers from electric Callboy.....watch some videos of them and tell me i´m wrong
"I'm not the biggest fan of the Tau." Agreed. "But the thing is Tau have Kroot." Yeah and thats my iss- "And I never want to touch those ugly chicken things." Surprised Pikachu face.
I still think your Tyranid rankings are hurt by that crazy scheme of yours, which you claimed is easy, but it's far harder than almost anything an actual tyranid player picks. The new range is made for contrasts, not dry brushing, and definitely not trying to paint anything black really carefully. With a good scheme, it's basically painting seraphon, which you had in S tier, with very good reason.
Kieran says he would like to paint Blood Angels but when he plans his list he's going to end up mostly picking death company and realize he's painting all black again.

*snerks* Love how you call them "Custards" instead of their actual name!
Annoying spikey chickens 😂😂😂😂
I have been thinking about what could make Guard cooler and rank higher on your list. There will soon be the option to use 30k Solar Auxilia models as Guard infantry. How do you like those guys? Or would you rather wait for the hopeful future release of Krieg infantry?
Truthfully we’d rather wait for Krieg and hope they actually come out!
We did contemplate doing one each, but these two videos have been mammoth edits with all these snazzy stuff and if we did one each we didn’t want the video to be just too long 😅
I got my Necron painting done and my next army was Custodies, and dear lord I disagree. Love the video you guys made me laugh though
Hahaha glad you enjoyed it
I think painting my GK's was one of the most fun armies to paint!
DONT TEMPT ME FRODO
As an AoS guy, Grey Knights are the only faction that look halfway decent to me. The only problem is they're all short kings. When they get a refresh, I'll almost certainly pick up a strike squad to make a kill team and eventually a Terminator squad to paint up just for funsies.
EDIT- the Dark Angels have been growing on me as well, but I can't see myself buying them.
That grey knights refresh will be god tier when it happens
24:51 Tyranids are so frustrating. The models are beautiful. Once they've been painted even moderately well, it's so cool to walk past a shelf they're being displayed on. They are an absolute nightmare to paint, though.
Of the armies I've started, Tyranids have been the only one I didn't enjoy painting. I don't really like doing Daemon infantry either, but their characters are tons of fun, and my wife's Be'lakor is definitely the best I've ever painted a model (he's also my most recently painted model, and it's always a nice feeling when you feel like you've just one upped yourself).
I think with Horde armies in general they look phenomenal when they're done, but it's the process that absolutely kills you.
Are you maybe a little burnt out? That tierlist looked awfully stuffed at the bottom 😢
Wouldn’t say so, we’ve just already painted a lot of 40k stuff 😂
Funny use of ‘that salute’ when you were rating Krieg… 😂
Unintentional...
You boy's Should do a chapter tier list
We will do!
Do you ever follow through on the bet on wearing a toga painting ultramarines?
Haha we absolutely did. It was on a live stream a few months back, the reel is on our Instagram page!
great to see that none of my choices reach above B-tier, then again my plans are mildly insane for at least orks if not all my armies(hello Votann with 4 sepperate colour schemes because my friend made a Deep Rock Galactic joke and I went: "Bet")
4 colour schemes!? thats truthfully insane.
@@the_kieran_show One for each playable class
Uuuuuu! I want to see that toga!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
It was in a recent live stream we did! Go check it out 😂😂
@@the_kieran_show don’t think I won’t! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah there is so much variety even within armies!
Was this recorded before the new kroot box got announced? I agree old kroot are potatoes but the new ones look really good
Yeah it was after we had them, right Kieran just isn’t a fan but left Kieran is so gassed for them
Regular SM are a nope. If i'm going to paint SM it'll be for my Dark Angels or Space Wolves.
I really, really hope the summer release will EC.
Historically, each of the other 3 were released at the end of the cycle, 3rd year. Hopefully they break the trend!
Yeah end of the cycle seems likely 🫠
You don’t have to paint diamonds on harlequins. If you’re cool with a simpler scheme they’re a fun army to paint.
Its more the sculpts I think that we would hate painting, so fiddly!
I just can´t get over the fact that you remind me soooooo much of the lead singers from electric Callboy.....watch some videos of them and tell me i´m wrong
I’m familiar with them and I don’t see it 😂
@@the_kieran_show i can't unsee it anymore
"I'm not the biggest fan of the Tau."
Agreed.
"But the thing is Tau have Kroot."
Yeah and thats my iss-
"And I never want to touch those ugly chicken things."
Surprised Pikachu face.
The guy has totally lost his mind. Those space chickens deserve better.
Yeah in retrospect that’s tyranids scheme was a bit too complex. But the problem was we loved it when we finally finished one 🫠🫠🫠
You continue to disappoint me with your bad opinions. Love you guys
So sorry ❤️
Drukhari is a dated range?! Oh my... how old am I? 😢
It's okay Grandpa we got you ❤️
Orkz should be higher on this list, a list of many of the same thing but that is GW and it’s brainwashing, Orkz have the character for enjoyment.
The only reason they're not is because we have to agree 🙃
Slam ad mech all you want but leave stilty boy out of it 😂
Long live Inspector Gadget
No love for Kroot?!!?
NooooooOOOOOooooOOOoooooooo!!!!
Left Kieran loves them!
@@the_kieran_show I knew he was my favourite for some reason... ;)
The kroot hate is so based
Half of us love the chickens 🐔
Aos is garbage
