I come back to watch this performance often ever since Harry did it with Stevie Nicks. I grew up listening to Stevie and Fleetwood Mac with my grandmother who was my “mother” due to my strained relationship with my very own mother. Landslide was our song. She used to say to me “I won’t be here forever, we’re all getting older and we get to choose what we do with it. As time goes on, you learn more about yourself (“time makes you bolder”) and who you are.” My grandmother died in 2013 when I was almost nine years old. I grew up a One Direction kid as well as listening to Fleetwood Mac and Stevie with my grandmother. My grandmother used to use the term “Stevie Nicks” as a compliment. She used to tell me that I could “Stevie Nicks” anything in life. Harry grew up with his mother introducing him to the classics. He’s ten years older than me. He sang me and my grandma’s song THREE TIMES WITH STEVIE prior to this performance. When his tour ended last year, we wouldn’t see him again on stage for a while because he had been in the spotlight nonstop and deserved a break. He went away. This performance was on July 12th. July 18th was the death anniversary of my beautiful grandmother. I knew that was going to be a tough week and I listened to our song on repeat. Harry came back to the stage with me and my grandma’s song. He grew up with Stevie Nicks in the same way that I did. He turned 30 earlier this year. I turn twenty in two weeks. The end of a decade, but the start of something new. And Stevie and Harry’s friendship and the age difference really proves that life is short. One day, hopefully not very soon, Stevie Nicks will not be with us. One day, Harry won’t be with us. One day I won’t be here. Life is short and the possibilities are infinite. I hope that no matter how long we are here, that we never waste time. Stephanie Lynn Nicks and Harold Edward Styles, I love you both with my entire being. You both have raised and saved me. I took this July 12th performance as a sign. That wherever my beautiful gramma is that she’s watching over me and enjoying this show as much as I was over a grainy livestream. And to my beautiful gramma, Patricia, I love you. I miss you every day. I can’t wait to see you again. Until then, I live for the both of us.
Chris’ death has really made me feel my age. She was a sexpot who introduced me to FM in 1975 with Bare Trees, and who reintroduced me to FM in college with You Make Loving Fun in the 80s. I was glad to see her in 2019. My last Stevie solo show was 2011. Hopefully she’ll come back to the States this year or tour in 2025. Seeing Harry was nice.
