- Did you know there were whale sharks just off the coast of Cancun Mexico?! We accomplished a major bucket list item while in Mexico- swimming with whale sharks, the largest fish in the entire world! Cancun, and this entire region of Mexico, is most certainly open for tourism, and we highly recommend this tour. There were so many whale sharks swimming all around us, we could hardly believe what we were seeing. If you find yourself in or around Cancun during the whale shark season, you should definitely check out this tour if it's open!

It was so amazing! The whale shark season runs June - September in the Yucatan Peninsula. I hope you get a chance to experience it!

I envy you, whale sharks are interesting creatures. I've never seen one. I've seen dolphins and alligators in the wild.
Head to Isla Mujeres between July and November and you’re guaranteed to see them! It’s about $130 but worth every penny 🙂

No don't be scared! Sharks are much less interested in humans than movies make us think. We just finished scuba diving with hammerheads a few weeks ago and they were very eager to get away from us 👍

Hi! We're considering this... how long would you say you were in the water with the whale sharks? We've read that these tours have you get in and out of the water, so we're wondering how many times you were allowed in the water and the duration of time spent swimming with these amazing creatures. Thanks in advance!
It all went by so fast but maybe 5-10 minutes in the water. Only 2 people were allowed in the water at a time (plus the instructor). Everyone had the option to go in the water again but the water was really rough that day so 5 out of the 8 people on our tour were too sea sick to get back in the water. We would have loved to get back in for a 2nd turn but unfortunately the waves got the better of us 🤭 so whatever you decide I recommend taking Dramamine to improve your odds. Private tours are available with a higher price tag if you’re concerned about not having enough time. The quotes I got for private tours were about $800 for a two person tour though. Hope you get the chance to do this! It’s something truly special 💙

no, it was mandataory unfortunately
no, it was mandatory. I'm not sure any of the companies will let you do it without. I think it's a liability thing.

Don’t worry! The other sharks aren’t gonna bother you! We went diving/snorkeling with Hammerheads in the Galapagos last month and they swam away the second they saw us. As our guide explained: “they don’t like the taste of plastic” 🤿😂
I think I would get scared and kick one of them lol
